The smaller class sizes have made a huge difference for our children. Their teachers genuinely see them for who they are, not just academically but as individuals. There's a strong balance of accountability and encouragement. Students are challenged to do their best while also being supported and known. What sets this community apart is the faith-centered foundation. During a major life event for our family, our kids weren't just supported, they were surrounded by a community that consistently prayed over them and walked alongside us in a very real way. That kind of care goes beyond the classroom. What matters most to us is that my kids are thriving. They feel valued, they're growing in confidence, and they're being poured into by teachers who care deeply. That kind of environment is hard to find, and we're grateful to be part of it.

As years have…read morepassed and I've spoken to people who are familiar, I am not alone when I say this school is the most racist school ever. I though I was enrolling my daughter in a safe school environment, but she was bullied every day and nothing done. she got in trouble for defending herself. my daughter is black and looked different. she had locs in her hair and unfortunately was not only bullied by children but teachers as well. they couldn't hide or take away the fact that she was very smart so they bullied her about her lunch, or a coach kicking her in the face with a soccer ball or about how she looked. My daughter is now grown but still it affected by the trauma she faced there. Please make sure that you research this school and make sure before enrolling your child especially if of a different nationality other the majority (white) that rules have changed and their so called " no bullying policy" is actually being withheld. No child deserves to go through what my daughter did. She is 23 and still talks about the things that happened to her there. I hope and pray that karma has touched each and everyone who caused pain, stress and heartache to my child. Alrhough I will say the devil did not win. She is happy, engaged to be married and just bought her own home. I did take her out of this school and placed her where she would strive as the smart, intelligent young lady she is. So with this being said, I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS SCHOOL TO ANYONE CHILD OF COLOR. Please save your child the heartache

I stopped at the Carnegie Learning Center to visit the former library as I am interested in…read morehistorical architecture. The building is a classic Carnegie funded Arts and Crafts style brick structure, typical of some Carnegie libraries. (Andrew Carnegie funded 164 public libraries in Indiana over 100 years ago.) The building served as the town library from 1912 through 1991 and includes an addition which expanded space and incorporated an elevator to improve accessibility. The exterior is mostly original, while the interior has been remodeled with no evidence of the historic contents with the exception of interesting photos of Andrew Carnegie and the building when it first opened. A historical plaque outside tells the history of the library. Margaret Wade was the first librarian. The building now serves as the Learning Center as part of the South Madison Community School system. Doug, one of the instructors, gave us an interesting tour of the building and described the Center's mission. The Center currently supports the education of around 20 students. There is parking in a nearby school lot. The building is not open to the public during school hours, but the plaques outside tells the story of this historic building that continues to serve the community. A new larger modern library stands a couple blocks away.

Also adding a advance learning center for the seniors ( this was under construction when i was in school). The community is small, but proud and growing fast paced. Performing arts is top notch the Band has something like 10 straight state titles 12 total i believe along with National championships pretty soon the City will out grow itself and have to build another High school.

I've often tried to sift through all our years and determine what they most learned/received at Orchard and if I had to pick one attribute (and there are many), I'd pick confidence. They are all confident public speakers. For example, when my daughter was a junior in high school, she won an award that required her to speak at a dinner with over 400 people present. I tried several times to get her to practice and review her speech in advance, knowing that the previous recipient had a professional speech writer. In frustration, one evening she said, "Mom, I went to Orchard. Don't worry." She delivered a flawless speech without notes. They are all confident about their ability to learn. Orchard likes to say they help create lifelong learners and they do. Each of our children knows how to learn and they like to learn. They are all confident expressing themselves to anyone. In high school, their teachers observed that unlike many shy teens they were not afraid to ask questions and advocate for themselves or for others. And, this has continued throughout their college and post-graduate years. Orchard invites and teaches children how to respectfully approach adults. At Orchard, education is not just about science, English, history, etc. While these are important, it's also about helping develop good people and preparing them for the future.
