I usually go to the North Vancouver location, where I've always had a fantastic experience. This time, I booked an appointment at the Yaletown location for 7:15 PM. Parking is difficult in this area, but I managed to find a spot a few blocks away, which made me exactly 7 minutes late. I understand the late policy that if you are late, they will do as much of the service as possible, and you may not get exactly a full set, which was totally fine with me and I would be happy to pay for the full service. However, when I arrived, the employee already had her bag packed and told me she had closed the front till, so she couldn't perform the service. I had already paid for parking and would have turned around if they had called to let me know they wouldn't be able to accommodate me. I was not charged for the service. I left for vacation the next morning so did not get to have the service performed before my vacation. I would at least appreciate a courtesy call to let me know if the shop is closing and unable to perform the service. read more

NOTE: This review is about Noir Lash Lounge, as a business--not specific to my technician, and not about lash extensions in general (which a lot of lash newbies tend to do). The quality of your technician is always going to vary at these places, so unless you are referred to one specific person, your actual lash result may vary a bit. I've gotten eyelash extensions at a few different places before, but all in the US (in New York City, to be exact). I would first like to say that this place is significantly better than 90% of eyelash extension places in New York. This is a really cute place with great customer service! My technician was super friendly and accommodating, which made the whole experience very pleasant. You actually feel like a valued customer, unlike many of the eyelash "factories" in New York. And as if that wasn't enough, my technician called me 1 week after my appointment to check in and make sure everything was going well with my lashes. What??? Nobody gives a crap about how your lashes are holding up in New York eyelash places (unless you are going somewhere that charges 3x the amount). I love this place! The one weird thing was the removal process. When removing my previous set of lashes, there was a noticeable burning sensation that they gave me a wet towel to "cool my eyes" from. I've never had a burning sensation from removal before, and the woman who did my lashes told me it's because the solution they use is actually gentler and better for my lashes than what many places usually use. I'm still not sure if this is true, but I'm over it now, so whatevs. read more

Over there they spend more time on you for the same service. In yaletown/Vancouver location , she did half a job and one of my eyes has less lashes than the other , when I asked her to fix it , she told me she only had 30 minutes and she can't do a perfect job because she doesn't have time , what kind of service it is?? I have those poker straight, flimsy, lashes that bend awkwardly when curled and require a heap of mascara to make a teenie-weenie impact. And then there was the invention of the Lash Lounge. The deal: You go in, you sign a waiver that says they aren't responsible if they poke you with their tweezers etc, and then you lay back for an hour on a couch while they work their tweezers and black glue. My beefs: -I know they have hand sanitizer and a bathroom onsite, but my lash-girl didn't once wash her hands. -The glue - twice the glue reached the inner area of my eye - the part that rubs against you eyeball - and twice I was told there was nothing they could do about it. If this happens to you - they can do something about it - but it's not comfortable. They rub some non-oily makeup remover to loosen it (this takes a while) and then, if your eye is steady enough they'll use tweezers to peel the glue off. My two trials: -The first set was so noticeable that everyone commented, which is, afterall, what I wanted. But they were so long they touched my eyebrows (and I couldn't wear glasses) and so heavy that my eyes hurt at the end of the day. But they were pretty! Like bambi! -My second set are much more natural - which I love, but the lashes have been falling out non stop, which is a pain! My Recommendations: -Make sure you find out exactly how long your lashes will be. I was told that they go "mid length" the first time around - which doesn't make any sense, because mid length would be different for everyone. -It can get costly: They say it's $60 for a full set and $30 for a fill. But, you may end up getting a full set almost every time to make them look as good as the first time. Reasons why I'll likely go back: -No more eye makeup needed - I haven't worn eyeshadow, eyeliner or mascara for over 2 months now - what a time saver: no application, no removal. -I love that when I wake up, I already look alert and alive! -I can finally bat my eyelashes properly :) read more

I had a couple of services done at Noir, and a bit of a unique experience. I initially had a full set done with Becca (she's no longer there, that day was her last day there), that I wasn't completely satisfied with. Having never had lash extensions before, I didn't have a super clear idea about what I wanted, and what effect all the different options would have (shape, curl, length, thickness, etc.) and I felt like although Becca was super sweet, she wasn't as thorough in the consultation process as she could have been. In the end, the lashes I got didn't really suit my eye shape at all, and I was a bit underwhelmed. I called Noir the next day with a question about whether I'd be able to switch styles if I got a mini-fill the following week, and expressed my disappointment with my lashes. They put me through with a manager, and were so kind to offer to fix my lashes for free, or in the alternative, give me another full set! A+ for customer service. I had to come in separately for a lash removal session, which was fine and quick, but was a bit annoying because I arrived on time and had to sit and wait for about half an hour before the technician was ready to help me. I then had my second full set done by Cassie, and she was amazing! It did help that I had a clearer idea of what I wanted this time around, but Cassie was also pretty helpful in offering some suggestions, and I felt like she put more thought into the design of the whole look, taking into consideration the shape of my eye, the length and thickness of my natural lashes, etc. She was also super professional. I'm pretty sure I dozed off a couple of times and was jolted awake by the sound my own snoring... but Cassie just ignored it and continued working away. Also, I noted that a couple of times she had to stop and deal with customers, check appointments on the computer system, use the phone, etc., but before she resumed working on my lashes, she would make sure to sanitize her hands. Plus I thought she was much gentler in her application, so it was a very comfortable experience overall. The end result with my second set was so much better! Overall, I was really impressed with the customer service, and the facility is beautiful and very clean. I suppose the work of each lash technician could be hit or miss though. I also think their lash options are slightly limited in that they only seem to have 3 types of curls: J, C, and D, when I know there are several other types, and most notably are missing the L type which is good for those with naturally straight lashes. read more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. This review is unfortunately very delayed but some recent events prompted me to post this.. Below is the email I sent to owner Joyce Poon: "I came in on Tuesday Aug 21st for a full set of a Force Majeur. I already had lashes from another salon but was told to ensure the integrity of the work that these needed to be removed. You verbally confirmed with me that with this set, my new lashes would be thinner as the fans were 4 lashes each (which was fine, I just wanted a pretty, fresh set). I agreed that was okay. When I saw the lashes I was incredibly disappointed as they looked more like a classic set. I was even more shocked when I went to pay and was told I owed $215 plus tax and tip. When I asked my tech about this she said when you and I spoke at the beginning of my appointment I agreed to get the fuller set than the one I originally booked. I did not, as again I said I was fine with 4 lashes per eye. After seeing my real lashes when I did the removal, I am convinced that there are only extensions on every maybe third lash." Long story short, they DID issue a refund.. for $26. I understand that it was the price difference between the set I booked and the set they supposedly gave me, but for what ended up being a $250 service when it was all said and done, that's a pretty poor way to do customer service. On top of that, to get this review, I initially went back into the salon to complain (where the lash tech proceeded to glare at me while working on her client). I was told by the only other tech in there that they had no idea when Joyce was coming back, if at all (although she had just been there). They tried to push the Noir 1800 number on me, but I managed to find Joyce's email. Getting the $26 refund from there was a huge hassle, with me speaking to three separate people before it finally happened. I'm posting this now because I just had my lashes done at my normal place, and it reminded me what a huge difference it was for the same priced service. The tech spend 30 minutes trying to melt off the old glue that the Noir tech used. She also pointed out that Noir uses pre-made fans, which are generally not as good for the integrity of your lashes (funny for a place that supposedly so concerned about lash health). I never complain about stuff like this, but quite frankly it made my blood boil and I don't want anyone else to have to deal with the bs I went through with Noir. So many better lash techs in the city, I've realized. read more

Here's the deal my lashes looked awesome and stayed on for two weeks which I hear is a lot longer than most people. I took such good care of them! My girlfriend and I got them done for her wedding and were both very excited. The technician that did my lashes wasn't the most professional. She was telling me about this guy she wanted to sleep with and then called him and told him to come by! So there he was sitting in the chair next to me while I was getting my lashes done! lol. The application itself took longer than it should have because of all the other things she was doing and the glue stung like you wouldn't believe. It's worse than getting toothpaste in your eye. If you do get them plan on either paying to have them taken off or getting refills sooner than they recommend. I thought I could save the money by taking them off myself and boy was I wrong. I ended up looking like a drunken hooker with spiders attached to parts of my eyeballs. OK ok maybe that's an exaggeration but you know what I mean. I would also recommend to them to have someone manning the desk while the technicians attend to their clients... and have them wash their hands if they go ring in a sale and then come back to do my lashes.... hope that helps you guys. read more

I always wanted long lashes as I am lash challenged. On a nice sunny weekday, I was walking around Yaletown and came across this little quaint store with sofas and offer lash extensions. On impulse, so unlike me - but I really wanted lashes, I walked in and asked some questions, the girl at the counter said they have a cancellation.. so someone really wanted me to have lashes.. I looked at the pretty pictures of the other clients' lashes and picked some that is natural looking but long for me. After I signed the waiver, basically, they are not responsible if the process caused any injury, etc. I was led to a couch to lie down. By now, I am blind as a bat as I took my contacts off and my glasses are in my purse. The technician told me she will be taping my bottom lashes down so that the glue won't glue my top lid to my bottom lid.. (Okay... now I am getting panicky.. glue in eyeball.. must rethink...) Price of beauty is pave with pain... so after my eyes are taped shut.. imagine 'Clockwork Orange' when they taped your eyes open.. (not quite) but it felt like they are putting sticks on my lashes. Several times, I feel the pinch of the tweezers.. Since I am stuck for over an hour with this person breathing over me, I decided to chit chat to keep the monotony at bay, I should have kept quiet.. the usual question, 'So do you like working here?' "Its an interesting job." 'How long have you been doing this?' "About a week.." 'Oh, have you always been interested in this field?' "Not really, my friend told me they were hiring." 'Did you have to take a class to be a Lash Technician?' "Sure, we had a few lessons after hours, then its on the job training" 'What do you think is the most useful skill you need to do this?' (expecting steady hands, patience, etc..) "Learning to count.." - I was too shocked to say more. After over an hour, the tape was taken off my bottom lid I was handed a small mirror. With my glasses on, the lashes barely sweep over it. Its not as long as I wanted but since I have occasion to wear glasses, I guess the length was ok. My eyes felt really heavy and the lash itself didn't look as natural as I thought. One side had more lashes than the other and when I pointed it out, she said it looked even. I insisted so she added a few more, all the time muttering its extra. Some of the lashes at the end was turned around but I was too tired to care.. As for cleanliness, once I have my glasses, I noticed that the head of the couch where my head was laying had lots of glue bits plus loose lashes all around, the technician was also answering phones when the reception person stepped away and rang up some sales. Not once did she washed her hands before getting back to me. I baby my lashes per instruction, no make up remover, no oily substance like eye cream around and the lashes lasted about 3 weeks. I am back to using my MAC lashes, much easier to handle. read more

I love my lashes & they looked amazing for my friends wedding. Good experience all around. BUT What no one tells you: -they hurt! -when they fall out they take your real lashes with them :( -you can't use mascara (you don't need to...) If you don't plan on getting regular refills (or just doing this once for a special occasion) DON'T. Just stick with the Quo lashes you can get at Shoppers, you can still use mascara and eye makeup & take them off! I've been coming to Noir for years now. Years! I used to go to both the South Granville location and to the Yaletown one, but the SG one no longer exists. I don't mind the trek, though. It's such a hit or miss with this place. Sometimes I come out and I absolutely love my lashes, sometimes I don't, it really depends on who your lash technician is. I would have to say this past visit really irritated me to post a review, but let me preface with the fact that I've actually had lovely visits here in the past (hence the 3 stars). For my last appointment, I had to leave on time and we started a bit late so the technician said that it was no problem, and that we could touch up the next day as well for the time missed (15 minutes). When I was done my first session, I looked at my lashes and thought they looked super empty. I wasn't too worried, however, since I knew I had another appointment the next day. After my second appointment, I was incredibly disappointed. I could still see many lashes from my supposed full-set that were not done. It was definitely not done to the usual standard in which I was used to for Noir, and to me, it was done so thinly that I couldn't even tell that I had extensions on. Not the best experience, unfortunately. I'll go back (mainly because I have a Noircisst package with them so I kind of have to), but next time I'll be more careful in who I choose to do my lashes...and make sure I have the time to commit to sticking to one appointment. read more

Long, luscious eyelashes just like the models in the magazines? What gal doesn't want that? I had been coveting a visit to Noir Lash Lounge for an embarrassingly long time, and when my best friend got married last April, I had finally found my excuse. Bridesmaid lashes FTW. I booked an appointment using their online system, and when I showed up for my appointment everything was ready to go without a hitch. Although their website indicates that they have several different styles of lashes, when I got there the technician had already selected a few lengths to try out. Before we got down to business, we talked a little bit about what I wanted, and we ended up going with a length one size longer than the ones she had originally selected, as those had been pretty much the same length of my natural lashes. The technician had me lay down on one of their comfy sofa beds, and she proceeded to tape down my upper and lower lashes so that she could begin her work. As a lash newbie, I found the tape was slightly uncomfortable at first, but I became used to it after a few minutes. The entire procedure took about an hour and fifteen minutes, and my technician was friendly and chatty, which made the time seem to go by quickly. Although the adhesive that they used burned my eyes for a few minutes after finishing, at the end I was left with gorgeous doe-eyes that my friends and co-workers gushed over for the next couple of weeks. Now for the nitty gritty: Did I like my experience? Yes. Would I go back for another set? Probably not, and here's why: -Although they mention that the lashes can stay on for up to 8 weeks, it's common for those who get them irregularly to have them last only 2-4 weeks. At $75 + tax + tip each session, this is a little unrealistic for the average working class gal. -The lashes looked great for the first few days, but over time they start turning inwards and looking, well, not fab. It's also more than a little annoying to have small pieces of plastic poking your eyes, understandably. -Once my lashes had all fallen off, the remaining ones were much shorter and stubby-looking. Sure, they grew back to their natural length about a 4-6 weeks later, but do be prepared for a short, awkward phase if you aren't planning to maintain your falsies. -The chemicals they use made my eyes feel like they were burning. The rational voice inside my head is saying "take this as a sign. This shizz is NOT good for you." Really. In the end, after about three or four weeks I became irritated with the remaining few lashes that were on, and I took it upon myself to gently nudge them off. Tip: if you find yourself in this situation, I found that gently brushing my lashes with a clean, dry mascara wand worked wonders. Overall, Noir Lash Lounge did a good job and the staff were friendly enough, but given their product and price point, I'll be sticking to the good ol' mascara for now. read more

Finally, being able to wake up pretty! Loved the service and the lashes... They probably would have lasted a lot longer if I didn't get drunk and pull them all out one by one. I would definitely go back before a beach side vacation or something like that. But I have issues with things being glued to me and value eye rubbing too much to rock these 24/7. Awesome though, they can do subtle to porn star. As long as you can compromise your quality eye rubbing time you will be in lash heaven. read more

I have mixed opinions about this place...the customer service is always great, once your on file.Having said that... lashes only ever last 2 weeks.When I get them done...Fabulash!! Lol...but after 2 weeks.My lashes are limp and sparse...I have heard all the excuses and I know their is some truth. but the reality is I have had my lashes last for 6 weeks from other salons. I am tired of going in every 2 weeks for a fill charging me more monies ...what so I Have to come back?? and then telling me finally that I have weakened my lashes by having them done every 2 weeks...LMAO. I hate a Bad Hustle just as much as Poor Craftsmanship...not sure if it's the glue they use or what!? But I promised myself they would receive a fair review. Overall it's Pricey! I got my lashes done and received the thickiest set, which is supposed to be a mega set and it looks nothing like it what so ever. It looks like a hybrid set. For a set this expensive I feel like I didnt really get what I wanted also they did it in a span of an hour and 15 min, which generally it takes much longer to do. read more

I've been here three times and all experiences have been wonderful. The first time was a year ago when it first opened (Dec 2008). The owner Joyce did my lashes. She was personable and very informative. My advice is to ask a lot of questions the first time, so you know how to take care of them. I don't know about the other girls working there, but Joyce answered all of them and then some to make sure I knew what to expect and how to make them last longer. The second time was actually at the owner's home. This was when she was first starting out and didn't have the space Lash Noir currently occupies. I wanted a refill and ended up getting a full set. I don't really have a beef with that since they looked amazing. BUT I would like to know what a refill would actually be since I had about 1/2-3/4 of the lashes left on. Again, Joyce was very nice and friendly. The last time I went was a few days ago. Another girl did my lashes, I didn't catch her name, but she was friendly and chatted about her plans for the holidays. The girls do talk to each other and get up to answer the phone, but hey they are a small business going into their second year, give them a break! About the music, it does get loud, but I believe that it's from BLO next door because they do still share a lot of things, including the bathroom. For $65 ($68.25 after taxes), it's well worth the gorgeous results. I lived in Chicago for over two years and it was anywhere from $300-$500 for the same services! With a little care, they last 4-8 weeks. My first ones lasted 4-5 weeks. I've never had a bad experience with them.First times should ask for their maintenance tip sheet! My lashes look great now and I'll back back in about 6 weeks to get them redone! read more

Walking in you see this beautiful and comfy environment. The shop is clean with adorable decor. They even have a station for people to remove their makeup. They have these comfy upraised couches for you to lay on during your treatment. This was my first time getting lash extensions and I had a great experience. I got a full set done. Sam was great and talked me through everything she was doing. This definitely helped keep me at ease. She started off by asking what I was looking for. So you will be getting a customized appointment where they find the right lashes for the look you're going for. I wanted a full but more natural look that would work with someone who wears glasses a lot of the time. She showed me a lash against my own so I could decide if that was the right one for me. They turned out better than I had imagined! She recommended curled lashes for me as a glasses wearer and I have no issues wearing them with the extensions. When your appointment is finishing up they will explain the dos and don'ts. They even give you an aftercare sheet and a lash brush to take home. Things to note before your appointment: -you cannot get your lashes wet for 24 hours after the service, so keep that in mind when booking -be prepared to take special care of your lashes to make them last -figure out what type of look you are going for so you can articulate it at the appointment They specialize in lashes and they do a great job. I've been to Noir twice for eyelash extensions! I went to their Yaletown location last year, and their South Granville location this year (right around when it opened). The decor is pretty awesome, but the music can be loud sometimes. I loved getting eyelash extensions! I got them both times right before I went on a trip. (Coincidentally to California both times). You just lie there for 45-60 minutes while they glue individual lashes to your natural lashes. Both times, it lasted me 2-3 weeks, with some lashes falling out before others. I have never gone back for a fill, but I might do that the next time I get extensions. The glue didn't hurt my eyes at the time of application, but the first time I got eyelash extensions, when I showered and water would get in my eye, it would sting a LOT. Didn't happen the second time, not sure why. Oh, and your natural lashes will seem so wimpy and little after the extensions fall out :( read more

I've gotten lashes a couple more times since my initial visit and I still love 'em. Everyone notices them and I can't help but feel like I need to bat my lashes a few more times and smile sweetly at people. As for my previous criticisms about loud music, my second visit wasn't that noisy. My third visit was at South Granville and it was totally peaceful (almost zen-like) over there. I usually alternate between Noir and La Lotus. It's a bit hit and miss because they have different people all the time. My first experience, the woman did a great job but I thought the staff were pretty unprofessional because all they were doing was talking about their weekend escapades - hello! there's someone here! I opted to get 11 and 2's. Don't get natural looking lashes, because you'll still want to use mascara - so really what's the point? no. 2 in thickness makes it look like you have 2 coats of mascara and they're perfect. I'm going for longer ones today, so maybe 12's or 13's. if i go any longer or thicker I'll probably be entering the more pornish look (boooo). The second time the service was better but my lashes started falling out within a couple days, which made me check out La Lotus instead. After a while, you get a good understanding of how exactly you want your lashes. I don't like them to be too long near the inner corners as I find it difficult to get lighter colour shadow off of them. I find that the ones on the corner call off first so I ask them to add a couple extra ones. In between fills, I just add a couple of fake lashes here and there but make sure not to stick them to the lashes. It's impossible to get off if you glue the fake ones to the lash extensions. I also take great care in washing my face and removing my eye make up. read more

A year and a half later... I am still more than satisfied with my lashes, and am fully committed to Noir, and, in particular, Emily. I started out getting a half set ("Le Fling"), which I did for about a year, and then I decided to try a full set just for the heck of it... I have pretty long, full lashes to begin with, and part of the reason I decided to try out lash extensions is because when I wore mascara, it would always rub off on my brow bone and get everywhere. Once I started with lash extensions (even just a half set), I was so happy to be able to ditch mascara altogether. A full set lasts me about five to six weeks before I get a fill. This is because I don't wear any other eye makeup. I've noticed a lot of reviewers saying their lashes fell out fast - it's important to understand that if you wear eye makeup (which you then subsequently take off), your lashes will not last as long. This is not the fault of whoever applied them... you are agitating the lashes every time you take off eye makeup, so of course they are going to fall off faster. The girls at Noir are well trained and do an excellent job, but they don't have any control once you leave the salon and are left to care for your lashes on your own. Hello everyone, I went to Noir and had semi-permanent eye lashes 'installed.' After my experience, I was very disappointed, and recommend that others go some where else. Positive: My lashes looked amazing... Negative: My lashes looked amazing... for about a week. I'm pretty healthy, and the healthier u are, the faster your hair growth cycle repeats, and therefore the faster your lashes fall out. Since the faux lashes are attached to your lashes, they fall out too, obviously. I chose something between natural and dramatic, and after a week the lashes looked sparse and sporadic. I made sure to NOT: get them wet within 24 - 48 hrs after application, sleep on my face, play with them, apply a waterproof (oil based) mascara, or direct the water right in my face while showering. Rudely, they refused to believe that I took care of them, and insisted that I did one or all of the above to cause them to fall out sooner than what they promised. Positive: It feels like a spa experience. Nice decorum, comfy chairs. Negative: They're understaffed - so the 'technician' was constantly interrupted to answer the phone, or attend other customers who wanted to purchase something. Not only did it take nearly 2 hrs, I noticed she didn't wash her hands after touching the phone, counter, etc, and instead immediately returned to applying my lashes. Totally unprofessional. I had to ask her to wash her hands... awkward... (If any of you are wondering - what's the big deal with washing your hands? It's a BIG deal. Negative: They still manage to rip you off. Noir insists that you have a 'new set' not a 'fill' every other session. Even if you just need a top up, they'll refuse your service if you don't. So if you're thinking, oh $65 first visit, then only $35 every month (assuming they last 4 weeks) that's not so bad. But in reality, it's roughly $77 your first time (with taxes and tip), then roughly $40 two weeks later, then $77 two weeks after that, then another $40 two weeks after that, then another $70, etc. Not a cheap 'addiction.' Getting a new set includes ripping out your current lashes that have any fake ones attached. Yes, that's right, 'ripping.' It hurts, about as much as a Brazilian wax... ouch. So if you really just needed a top up, but they insist you get a fill, they end up yanking out a lot of lashes. Since there are less lashes, they add two or more fakes to a real lash. This made my lashes hang sideways, (because the one lash couldn't handle the weight) appear clumped and uneven, and when one of my real lashes fell out, 3 of the fake ones went with it. I went to another place and had a much better experience, without any of the negatives listed above. (And they were so gentle that I was able to take a nap during the process). It seems that since semi permanent lashes are a new cosmetic service, the providers are able to create their own rules as to what is safe, and appropriate, for consumers. When or if it becomes as popular as getting your nails done, I think customers will have more power to demand more professional standards. Until then, yay for websites like this one. read more

This place is a hit or miss - you can either get a technician who is experienced and knows what they're doing, or you might get someone who has just finished their 2 week training. The last 2 times I was here my lashes were not applied properly as they started itching badly (this happens when they glue multiple lashes to 1 extension or if they accidentally glue the extension to your skin). I ended up laying on a pile of pillows for the process and my neck started to cramp up during my appointment. The receptionist aren't exactly the friendliest either when you first walk in - but you do get a fancy little bottle of water! read more

Everyone loves a good pair of lashes on a girl and I have heard so much about Noir that I was very excited to get them done! It was a quiet Sunday that I went in, the technicians and workers were all very sweet and nice but it was kind of impersonal. There's this feel of YALETOWN YUPPIE when you go in and there's no real interest in you as a person - I felt like just another customer. My technician was fast and she was pleasant but she was also suffering from a cold and I felt a little weary about her work but I did love my lashes when they were complete! I received a half set and it looked gorgeous but I don't know if it was worth the price or tip because the lashes lasted maybe 2 weeks? I was pretty diligent with the care of them as well! All in all I would say I would get eyelash extensions again but I'd pay the extra dollars to go to one of the other places mentioned, or else I'd just avoid the Yaletown location for Noir. read more

5 star at the south Granville location! Excellent lashes, lasted forever, best Tech, forgot her name, but remember her face. Difficult to make an appointment. Must book in advance. Why, because the best place to have had my eyelashes extensions done! Yale town- if I could Zero stars! Felt rushed, tech didn't care about what I liked or cared. But, since I had an excellent service and lashes the first time ( at Granville ), went back again. Big, Big mistake. Rushed, lashes lasted less than 2 weeks, and All of my natural lashes disappeared as each chunky fake lash fell off!!! I was so upset, took 6 months for my natural lashes to grow back!!! I love the lash extensions here. I've had sets from spas before but the options are not as varying as here and the pricing is way better! The experience is pretty relaxing. I do them every once and a while because they tend to irritate my eyes. They look so great over the summer months and through out special events. I had them for my wedding and didn't have to worry about mascara runs at all! Love this place. read more

A lot of beauty fanatics also turn out to be impulsive consumers. If there is one thing I can't stress more is RESEARCH. I find a lot of people going in for lash extensions for the first time have unrealistic expectations. The best thing you can do is do your research and bring yourself down to earth! I really suggest calling in ahead of time, calling other salons and asking questions about what they or for eg, Noir, offers very much ahead of time. Things I've learned: 1) Lash extensions are fake. Own up to it and face it, honey. It's NOT going to be a Houdini magician act to last forever and ever, amen. 2) Lash extensions at Noir are generally just curled black plastic sticks imported from Korea. If you want to go a little further, ask for the synthetic mink which is purported to be a little more luxurious but is still synthetic. Incase I didn't make myself clear synthetic means PLASTIC. If logic serves us correctly, plastic is HEAVY in relation to human hair. This leads to eventual warping and wear of the lashes upon your own human hair lashes. Ie. if your natural hair is thin and unable to support the weight, of course it's going to turn wrong side in and upside out eventually. Gravity is still prevalent on this little rock we call Earth. 3) Your technician should always advise you whether or not your real human lashes can support the "look" so desperately coveted or curious about. If someone tells you that you don't have enough lashes to begin with, you're simply doomed and lash extensions will not work for you if you're looking for a dramatic look. Think of it this way: A photographer still needs some good material to work with in order to create a masterpiece. You're not ugly. It just means that you probably have greater talents, gifts and physical traits and quit fixating on your eyelashes. Move on. Or use pasties (the traditional stick on lashes). The bottomline is: You're seriously setting yourself up for a downfall if you think you can magically pull off lash extensions with little to no hair to support PLASTIC. 4) Lastly I came in expecting nothing and got everything in a very chill, nothing's sacred way. The people at Noir or the people I have been lucky to meet are pretty laid back. If you're looking for some serious pampering with la di da music and an oasis from a nutty life, you'll be in for a surprise. Noir is pretty much what it says it is. It's a lounge NOT A SPA. Treat it like going to a typical hair salon. Must I stress again? IT IS NOT A SPA. You're better off booking a subsequent visit for a massage at a spa at least 24 hours later in order to calm your nerves. 5) My personal experience was with a technician who was worldly, well traveled, and someone who happened to be in the industry since 2002. Maybe I lucked out with someone with a lot of experience who has also worked on lash extensions in parts of Asia (where this phenomenon originated). Unfortunately for her clients she is leaving the country for travel pursuits later this year again. I also strongly believe each person's decision to continue with lash extensions is very personal. It's akin to some people simply not liking getting their nails done or their hair dyed or a question of affordability. Some can afford it, some can't. Some react worse to the glue or removal solution, others don't. For others, it's simply a question of maintenance and upkeep that may be feasible or not, too much trouble or not. Lash extensions are a trend or a fad that I wanted to know more about and now I do. Will I continue it for the rest of my life forever and ever, amen? Probably not. By nature, I wash and I go. I generally don't make that much time for primping and q-tipping. Will I do it every now and then when the whimsy strikes me? Sure. Why not. Deep down you need to be happy with how you look without all this. Keep it real. A dependence on anything is bad news. Especially on stuff like this. It's probably why I appreciate how NOT ALL the technicians have lash extensions themselves. My parting words are: Do your research. Listen to your technician. Don't be a stubborn dope. Don't go in thinking it's a spa. No one is perfect including you, the customer, and your existing lashes may not support lash extensions in the first place. The extensions were hard and felt plasticky. The "extension safe" protective coating that they say made the lashes shinier and protected the extensions only clumpped the extensions together and made the loook very spidery. I would not go back again. They use gel pads now. But still had to tape some of my eye lashes down because they could not get it all in the first go. Being a red head, my lashes are practically invisible. So when I heard of 'Lash Dip' the "most perfect coat of mascara. LashDip is blacker-than-black, clump free and precise and (here's the kicker) lasts up to 6 weeks". It was too good to be true! I should have known better but I was sold! I thought even if it only last 3-4 weeks that time not wasted messing around with mascara would make it worth the $125 price tag and ($45 for a refresh). I have had the Lash Dip for one week today (followed all the care instructions I might add) and I am going in today to get the tired looking clumpy leftovers taken off. I have had had lash extension from Noir a year ago and the experience then would have been rated at 3 stars. They looked beautiful for about a week and a half so I felt like I alt least got the value for my $75. If I were to rate them on environment, I would give them 5 stars (very clean and contemporary with a fun classic twist), customer service 4 (very friendly) but lash quality... 3 stars if your wanting lash extensions and 0-1 for 'lash Dip'. All in all, for how long lash dip lasts it would be cheaper to hire someone to apply and remove your mascara for you. Total waste of time and money! read more

***update*** So due to the convenience of their online booking system Noir Lash Lounge got another shot. So glad for this. I had a very comfortable service. My lashes look fantastic. Best combo of length and exactly the look I want. They are also holding strong*** I've been going to Noir Lash Lounge for over a year. The online booking system is very convenient. I generally have been going to the Yaletown location due to it being in my neighbourhood. I've also gone to Lower Lonsdale. The beds at Lower Lonsdale are way more comfortable. There is something about the flat tufted button beds at Yaletown that legit make my head numb after a while. I've had a few hit and miss services, but my last service was a big miss. First of all I had expressed I was rather tired and things were so busy I was looking forward to my lash "nap". Your eyes are closed so it's the perfect opportunity. Normally the technician gets the hint. Mine would not tstop talking. I realize that sounds slightly mean, but you know those times when you're paying for a service and just need a little me time. Plus she was talking about the awful cold she was getting over and how the sniffles and cough are lingering. Mmmmm ... so glad you are working so close to my face. I kept just going mhmm mhmm just thinking she would realize I was slowly drifting off. Eventually I just said oh I think I'm going to fall asleep. Yep you bet she was still chatting away. The problem lies that there was all this chatting and ultimately it was the worst full set I had ever gotten. My husband even commented how they didn't look as flirty as usual. On top of that I swear the first gust of wind happened and so many lashes fell off. I never had this issue before. I hadn't seen the technician there before so I feel as though she may have been new. I know we all have to learn, but prices went up recently. When the work doesn't reflect the price paid it makes you scratch your head. I realize I should have given them the opportunity to rectify my unhappiness, but I was traveling and didn't get the chance. I've now moved to Kitsilano and based on this last experience I feel I'll be looking for Noir Lash Lounge alternatives. Loved my experience at Noir! This was my second time getting lash extensions and I wasn't 100% impressed with the first place I went to in Vancouver... (Mink). At Mink I had picked the length of lashes I wanted (and showed my technician pictures) and by the end, the technician said she ended up using longer ones (without asking me) - which looked really awful. The woman that I saw at Noir (I don't remember her name!) did an amazing job. I told her I wanted my lashes to look dramatic enough when I have a smokey eye (which I normally always do), but still look *almost* natural when wearing no makeup. I also told her I wanted them to be more full than super long. It seemed like a lofty task, but she did EXACTLY that and they look amazing!! All of the staff were really friendly and the beds were comfortable. Definitely will be going back to Noir! (And not again to Mink!) read more

My first introduction to Groupon delivered me on the doorstep of this fancy establishment. After seeing the deal - $30 for three faux eyelash applications worth a value of $60, I bought in, and then read the details. So basically, they are going to stick false eyelashes on me for a "one night out" excursion. Seems kinda pricey to me since I can do them myself for free. In any case, I called them up to see if I could make an appointment since I've always got crazy shit going on on the weekend. The lady on the phone was super helpful in explaining to me exactly what my Groupon entailed, and let me know I could also use the discount towards a pair of eyelash extensions - which is what I ended up doing. My first trip to Noir I went with the longest lashes (14), even though the lady working there disagreed with my choice, and insisted that they wouldn't last as long because they would be very heavy on my eyes, and suggested I try something a bit shorter and more natural. Nope. Not for me. Over the top is how I roll. I want to give you that "come hither" look from across the room and besides, I am half drag queen after all However, as much as they like to make you think it's going to be a relaxing experience getting them on, its not really. Imagine yourself sitting on a couch with your head titled all the way back so the back of your head is touching your back for about 30 minutes straight. Like if you had come home drunk and sat on the couch to watch TV but passed out. Yea, it gets a little cramped. Not to mention all the stuff they put on your eyes so they can single out your lashes to put the extensions on - it wasn't my favourite, but its the price of beauty. If you are going to get this done, don't wear mascara to your appointment, they will make you rub that shit off until your eyes bleed, but the lashes won't stay on other wise, so it is necessary. After the lashes are attached, I was asked if I wanted an eyebrow massage..... wtf? Err.... no..... thanks...... first off, I don't have a lot of eyebrows, so if I had an eyebrow massage, my eyebrows would get rubbed off, secondly, what the fuck is an eyebrow massage? The lady doing my lashes showed me the bags of lashes when she was finished. Imagine little bags filled with half-curled hairs... unfortunately the first words out my mouth were "omg they look like pubes!" followed by maniacal laughter. As I am sure you can imagine the staff were horrified by me. My total after tax was $64.... which didn't make much sense to me since it's $75 for a full set, minus the $20 from the Groupon, should equal $55 plus tax at 12% is only $61.6... and then tip... how much do people tip for this shit? My second visit was with someone else and this time I wore no mascara, but was surprised that she didn't even ask me to remove my eye makeup (eyeliner and whatnot). She quickly went to work applying lashes - we didn't even confirm on a size I just said shoter than last time, since they only lasted 2-3 weeks. She threw on some 11's - which were much less dramatic (obviously) and she was done in about 30 minutes, which seemed a little rushed. However she only charged me for a half set, since apparently my lashes are small and weak (yea its true) so she didn't want to put on longer lashes or too many lashes because my lashes need to grow and strengthen first. The half set only cost me like $23 or something - which seemed strange - as th half set on the website is listed at $35 (minus the Groupon of $20) should have been less... I probably should have asked about the cost when I was there, maybe they need to update thier website? My last and final use of my groupon - the grand finale if you will, was with yet another girl, she put a full set of 12's on me, and it took the full hour. They looked great for a couple of days, but most of them fell out within the first week. It now looks like I have a half set, which isn't a bad thing because at least they fell out evenly. Overall, Noir Lash Lounge is alright, and now that I have used up all of my groupon I don't have to go back, but I probably will. It's on my way home, and I do love having longer lashes, so I will probably stop in now and then when I have special events going on, cuz it's sure easier to wake up with lashes for an all-day expo than worry about fake ones falling off half way through the day. read more

My first red flag about Noir: I noticed that NONE of the girls working there actually have their lashes done, not even the "Lash Dip" which is supposed to be good for your lashes... Wouldn't you want to show off your product if it was safe and healthy for your lashes? Hmmmm... As some people have mentioned, my first time going to Noir was amazing. I was treated like a princess and my lashes looked bangin' coming out of the shop. They lasted for almost 6 weeks because I was extremely anal with taking care of them and I couldn't wait to go back for another set! The second time I went in (and saw a different tech), I decided to go for a fill rather than a removal and new set. Big mistake. The lashes that hadn't grown out prior to my fill were used as anchors for the new lashes she was filling in... I had several large clumps of lashes paired with several large gaps. It was extremely unattractive. I asked my technician if she could try to fill in the gaps a little better, but she said my natural lashes weren't healthy enough to support more weight? As I was on my way out I noticed how HEAVY my lids actually were! Upon further inspection at home, I saw HUGE clumps of visible lumpy adhesive and more of the lashes had fallen out on my way from the shop. I was so incredibly disappointed; two days after my "fill", my lashes looked worse off than ever! I decided to give the place one more try. When I called to book my appointment, I requested someone with a little more experience - due to what happened at my last appointment. The person who answered the phone scoffed at me and said she would "see what she could do" and hung up without confirming my appointment for a new set. I was worried at this point. Went in for my appointment, and the technicians were standing around talking and looked less than impressed to be actually at work. The technician wasn't careful or gentle with me at all. She used WAYYYY too much solution to break down the adhesive. My eyes were stinging and burning so bad I actually started bawling and had to ask her to stop. (Note, I've NEVER had this happen before while getting lash extensions) Her response? "Well you have to stop opening your eyes, sweety" in the bitchiest tone ever. Um, hello, MY EYES WERE TAPED SHUT!!!!! I was so mad and in so much pain I almost asked her to stop at this point. Not surprisingly, my lashes were rushed (under an hour) and looked like garbage. I told my tech I wasn't happy with the result or the service, and she kind of shrugged as she ran my debit through. I've also seen mass ads on various lower mainland job boards for eye lash techs for Noir. I know this business is going through rapid expansion, but is the turn over really that bad? Two stars? Yes. Way too pricey for the service received. Two words? QUALITY CONTROL! Seeing a different tech each time is so frustrating in terms of both relationship building AND quality of service received. A word to Noir: Women (usually) pick and are loyal to ONE nail tech, ONE hair dresser, ONE waxer etc etc and STICK with that one person due to the quality of service received. Expecting your employees to all have the same level of skill is ridiculous and unreasonable. A word to my Yelp ladies: Try lash extensions at Juice Salon or The Studio (Makeup by Mika) for WAY better quality at a WAY better price. read more
