So happy we found Nolaa's on a recent trip to Niagara Falls from Cleveland. Our daughter is a 10 year old Celiac kid and we LOVE finding places that are completely safe for her to eat. From the second we pulled up and saw the two pups in the side yard to the immediate welcoming as we walked in by the staff, we felt like we were at home, but in a restaurant. This restaurant and bakery focuses on food that are sugar-free, gluten-free, and dairy-free. I believe it is the only restaurant like it in St. Catharines. It is located inside an old old with plenty of parking in the back. Use the front entrance for the restaurant and the back entrance for the bakery. Being inside a house, there are home-type decorations, including a coach, living room table, paintings, etc. There is indoor seating in 3 areas and outdoor seating on the front porch. Outside the house is a dog-friendly fenced area, with artificial turf and water bowls. The owner and operator has owned several locations in the past. This location had its grand opening on 2024-09-07. The customer service is good. All food and bakery items are made in-house, literally!! I ordered a box of 6 bakery items. They cost $5.99 each or 6 for $30. I chose the following: Canolli, Carmalita, Vegan Millionaire, Keto Krack x 2, Pecan Pie Bar. So far I've tried the Canolli and Keto Krack. They were both good. What a delightful surprise! I have heard great things about Nolaa's online, and have been meaning to try their delicious goodies. They cater to gluten-free, keto and vegan needs as well, so I can enjoy them guilt-free. As soon as I entered, I was greeted by the most kind lady I've run into in a while. I picked up my order and left very swiftly. Now, the goodies: simply put, they were AMAZING. Nolaa's restaurant in St. Catherine's deserves a 0 star review and should be closed until the owner and employees are educated on food allergens and cross contamination, as well as labelling of all food items and the ingredients they contain. The owner Melissa, will provide false information about what she serves in her restaurant that will end in a potentially deadly situation. Melissa was our server when we ate in the restaurant. We had pizza and sandwiches. I said that we would like to order desserts as well and she told me that I could pick some out when we're done because there were more in the display case. The dessert menu has a peanut-free symbol at the bottom with desserts listed. This made me feel good to know that my anaphylactic 4 year old would be safe. Melissa will argue that there are two seperate sections in her restaurant and one has peanuts and one doesn't. They are all made and sold in the same area, but advertises peanut free. Very deceitful. When we finished lunch, I decided to buy desserts from the display case. I bought treats for my family members and then my kids each picked out one. My 4 year old said "I want that one" pointing to the one that was called "O-Henrique" on the glass in erasable marker. I looked and said "those look like peanuts! are those peanuts??" Melissa immediately responded that "they were NOT peanuts, they were a plant- based product." She said "everything in the restaurant is gluten free, sugar free, dairy free, peanut free, soy free." So I said okay we can get one of those. We went home and were excited about our desserts. My 4 year old ate his "O-Henrique" bar and immediately started having an ANAPHYLACTIC allergic reaction. For the first time in 4 years, I had to use his EpiPen to save his life and call 911. He was taken to emerge to be administered even more medication. The symptoms didn't stop after this. His tiny little body had to digest the peanuts and peanut butter and let it go through his system. He was sick for an entire week. Nolaa's was called as this horrific incident was occurring and the person on the phone was asked specifically "what was in the bar that had the nuts on top that looked like peanuts so that I could tell the doctor." The employee said IT WAS MADE OF PEANUTS AND PEANUT BUTTER! I spent $167.96 at this restaurant and they don't deserve a penny. There was no menu for the desserts in the display case. The names of the bars were written on the glass. There was no nutritional information or ingredient list anywhere or offered to us. I asked the owner, Melissa, and she doesn't even know her own products. The name of the bar on her website is different from the name of the bar in the store and is different from what she keeps referring to it as ("Reese bar"). Public Health inspection (publicly posted online) also indicates that surfaces are not clean or sanitary. You will get cross-contamination if you eat here even if you don't have an anaphylactic reaction. It is absolutely disgusting that the owner/our server is allowed to run a business in the food industry. STOP advertising that you are allergy friendly. read more
