Dan is terrific, he came promptly at the appointed time to give me an estimate for a fall-clean up (I mow the yard myself but am terrible at it). It took a little bit of time to actually schedule the service but in retrospect that was fine because the trees still needed to give up all their leaves. I have a large, unruly yard, probably about 2 acres in all, with lots of nooks and crannies and fenced in areas. Not one of those vast lawns where you can blow through with a riding mower. Also, it is kind of hilly and has weird drainage issues which result in some muddy spots in the lawn. Dan rolled in with a big crew - fix or six guys in all - and did the whole shebang. Leaves, pine needles: gone; lawn mowed and edged to perfection; and generally looking in good shape for the coming winter. They had a surprisingly light touch given that it had just rained and I usually end up with big streaks of mud everywhere when I try to do the mowing myself after a rain. Not so w/ Clark's Sharper Image, everything was tidy and terrific. They even hauled all the pine & leaves out to the woods around the property. The total bill was $375, which I consider very reasonable for a large, gnarly job that took the better part of the day. I would highly recommend them if you are like me and can handle the week-to-week lawn care but need occasional help to do the heavy lifting for the yard. Specific examples: 1- The owner, Todd, failed to tell us that his quote for services did not include a $3-$4 per charge for gasoline. Our yard is less than 1/4 acre, easily handled by one fill up of the small tank on our own lawnmower. Was it really necessary to charge for a gallon of gas each time the lawn was mowed? And more importantly, not tell us in advance? 2- Todd raised the price of service twice, also without informing us in advance. 3- We mistakenly double-paid one month and did not receive credit for the extra $200 until pointing out the error. 4- We did not receive any bill for services for two months despite multiple requests to do so, both in writing and on the phone. 5- When we did finally receive the first bill, it included dates when the Binghamton area received significant rainfall, including one day when the area also got rain the day before and the day after. (I still get flash flooding alerts and warnings on my phone, and weather records are easily checked on the internet.) We gave him the benefit of the doubt, figuring he just listed service on every Monday as we had agreed, even if the lawn was actually mowed on other days of the week. All in all, we're betting that other contractors would provide equal service with better communication and more accurate price quotes.

Kalman Contracting has also taken care of our lawn, built a new raised garden bed, continues to care for the new landscaping, installed new gutters, fixed some internal minor repairs, and is continuing to exceed our expectations.
