It's actually pretty efficient and it's nice to have it all sorted without having to flip through the menu while a waiter waits for you to find the thing you want to order! You can also buzz for water or menus with different buttons which I loved! I had a phenomenal beef brisket noodle soup (the brisket was so tender, the noodles perfect and the soup delicious) & really tasty fried Korean chicken drumettes. Though the last two times I've been here have been very slightly tainted. Once by a slug on my spring roll-accompanying lettuce (which isn't the end of the world - hey, at least you know it's fresh and the staff were very apologetic) and most recently having hair in my tea and gristly/nobly bits in my dish containing chicken thigh. The hair is another shrug-the-shoulders, "shit happens" accident thing. The chicken could have been rectified though. All of this points towards a slipping in Quan 88's attention to detail, which is really disappointing because otherwise I really liked this little eat-spot. Had these things not happened, I would have given Quan 88 4 stars for consistently friendly staff who don't mind if you need extra fresh chilli, lemon or water, cheap eats and convent location. It also gets points for having a confusingly-angled front door! If I was reviewing based on the last 2 visits alone, I'd give it only 1 or 2 stars. The scallops and Brussels sprouts (prepared in the trendy way) were tasty, but others were just OK: - the wonton with "snake bean" - basically tasted like what American Asian restaurants usually call "red bean." - The duck money bags were fairly bland, but the duck bit on the side was tasty - Roti bread appetizer was probably both healthier and less tasty than the greasier versions I've had with richer cream curry sauces. The drinks were thoroughly excellent - both the cocktails (including the balanced, fresh-tasting "Trifecta") and the curated bottles including the red duck porter (wonderfully smokey) and the Napolean Pear cider (perhaps the best balanced cider I've ever had). Unfortunately we felt full after the above dishes so didn't get to try the others that tempted us (pastrami and pork belly) but would definitely come back here the next time in Melbourne.

He also recommended we get the wontons. These were incredible! The wrapper was so silky and the snake bean and sweet potato filling amazing! It was drizzled with a sweet soy and vinegar sauce. These were a highlight. Other exceptional meals ordered this time were scallops (perfectly cooked), pork belly (crispy and delicious), wagyu beef (a must!), crispy crab legs, calamari curry, snake bean and broccoli side and caramelised eggplant and tofu. Yeah - that's Szechuan food. But don't be discouraged if you have sensitive taste buds that can't handle it - they offer to make their dishes milder if need be and there are plenty of non-spicy dishes as well. Ambiance: This is a beautifully decorated restaurant with 2 floors and several private rooms that can be rented for functions. Come here dressed relatively classy! Customer Service: We had very attentive and professional service. The manager, Jerry, was especially great and seriously knew his stuff!
