The fish noodle soup was the winner with tender pieces of white wish, dried red chilli, Sichuan flavours and a flavourful broth The chilli lamb dry noodles were bwlnd in comparison but th lamb was finely sliced and tender. But to be honest with the price and the flavours are much better at New Shanghai. Fried pork buns at New Shanghai has this amazingly crispy bottom. With delish soupy inside that could literally scald you if you eat this too quickly! The XLBs are pretty good as well, although the skin is ever so slightly tougher than normal and they didn't serve it with thinly sliced ginger. I don't normally order spring rolls but my colleagues ordered it. The spring rolls were delish! I ate like three of them! The xo sauce fried rice was quite nice as well, with the sauce covering each grain. The negative of this place? Well, it felt that they have use a crapload of MSG cos I was super thirsty afterwards.

If you're hungry after shopping, this is a good spot for dumplings especially if you want something more substantial that the fast-casual offerings in the food court. The steamed xiao long bao is the favourite though I prefer them pan fried...just eat carefully as even the pan fried dumplings have hot broth inside! At the very end, just before the stairs that lead to the sad and dimly lit students' lounge, on your right is H K BBQ Kitchen. They have roast duck and roast pork and some beef dishes. You can choose rice or different kinds of noodles. But they also have two steamed dumpling dishes: pork with chives and pork with vegetables. We had the pork with chives. The filling was tasty but the real treat was the dough. It was clear that these were hand-made. The dough was the perfect thickness. The dumplings were the perfect size. Just dip them in the vinegar provided and straight into your mouth. We saw someone else get a wonton beef noodle soup and it smelled amazing. I'm definitely going back.

We stopped in for a late lunch and fortunately the restaurant wasn't that crowded. The menus are almost entirely in Chinese so it can be difficult if you can't read... We both ordered combo meals and walked out stuffed! The price point was just right and everything was delicious. There are a few different combo options and one we got included a bowl of noodles (pick which one you want), steamed pork w/ rice powder, and bing fen (dessert). The noodles were spicy, a bit oily but oh so satisfying to eat. I could have done without the steamed pork but the bing fen was delicious. After a big bowl of spicy noodles on a hot day, it was a perfect way to end the meal - cool and sweet w/ a mix of different textures. This isn't a place over-run by tourists so it's a great place to grab some authentic noodles without too much of a wait. If I'm ever back in Melbourne, I'd definitely come here for a meal.
