Sorrento Cooking School - Homemade Neapolitan pizzette and some prosecco

I was getting discouraged after getting prices ranging from €150-250/person for cooking classes…read morenear Sorrento. I had almost given up until I stumbled onto the Sorrento Cooking School at Esperidi resort. For €60/person (cash only) my husband and I were able to enjoy a four hour cooking class in a beautiful and clean setting. The class was taught by an Italian chef that spoke only a few words of English so she had a British woman (who had been living for years in Italy) to translate for her. Very little was lost in translation. First we made pizza fritti (individually sized fried pizza dough topped with homemade marinara sauce, parmesan cheese, and basil). Afterwards we were treated to a glass of Prosecco and invited to enjoy our pizza outdoors on their beautiful patio complete with tall lemon trees. We also made cheese filled ravioli, white fish and potatoes, and tiramisu. At the end of the class we all sat at a communal table to enjoy the fruits of our labor with as much water and wine as our hearts desired! We were sent home with an apron and a copy of all the recipes we had just prepared. I highly recommend this class for anyone who would like to bring a taste of Italy back home.

Our teacher was a woman that reminded me of an Italian mother that always wants to feed you! She really knew her way around the kitchen and was a great teacher. Hubs even enjoyed the experience and he never cooks! We made Neapolitan Pizzette, ravioli, fish, and tiramisu! It was a fun menu and the best part was eating it afterwards. So rewarding to eat something you made. The food was excellent, the experience even better, we made memories and left so full! Now we will get to go home and try out our new recipes for our family. They even give you an apron, shopping bag and recipe card to take home to remember you day at sorrento cooking school! I would recommend to anyone in the area!!!

We had booked with another cooking school but was cancelled without notice. Terry accommodated us asap. I still remember her cooking, her advice and techniques. Terry's selection of wine paring alone was worth the price of admission. Terry left such an impression that my wife and I vowed to make Terry's recipe for sauce, meatballs and pasta for Christmas dinner with our daughters. I am so happy we took the class with Terry, her sister ( mia sorella) and even her brother at the end of the class. The next time we are in Sorrento, we are stopping by Terry's kitchen...it is part of the permanent itinerary.

Terry and her family were lovely and made the experience so much fun and informative. We ranged from good cooks to no so much and we all had a great time. We made pasta, meatballs, tiramisu, and mozzarella wrapped in lemon leaves, and all of this was accompanied by delicious local wine Terry had selected. In addition Terry was a terrific source for local information and we had a great conversation with her about history, Pompeii, Herculaneum, Naples, and Paestum-all places we had or were planning on visiting. She was a wealth of information with her background as an archaeologist as well as delightful! Thoroughly enjoyed the evening and highly recommend it if you're in beautiful Sorrento!!!

We even had to shift back our class one hour due to our ship's port time changing and they were very nice and accommodating. Once we arrived, we were greeted by the owners Alberto and Maurizio. While we waited for the other students, we chit chatted and drank a fruity beverage. Everyone was just lovely and charming. The space was bright and inviting. Luigi taught our class - he was extremely knowledgeable and was able to teach those of us that didn't speak any Italian (with a little translation help from Maurizio). We made 3 kinds of pizzas, all using equipment we have in our homes for easy duplication of the recipes. I had to save my calzone for dinner as everything was so delicious and filling! Being in Italy, we of course had wine with our meal. If I ever return to Naples, I will definitely take another class. They teach so much more than just Italian food. I'd LOVE to take the pastry class!

Ridiculous Service -- Not What You Expect From a Michelin-Level Restaurant…read more We arrived on time for our 7:30 PM reservation and were greeted by the host, who escorted us to the garden rather than to our table. We thought this was a little odd, but assumed perhaps this was part of the restaurant's normal arrival experience. The host asked if we would like to order drinks while we waited, so we did. One hour later, we were still sitting in the garden. No explanation. No update on our table. No one checking on us. Nothing. At that point, we asked a busboy if he could please find out what was happening with our reservation and have someone come speak with us. Another 15 minutes passed, and still no one came. After waiting an hour and fifteen minutes past our 7:30 PM reservation, we decided this supposedly "Michelin" restaurant, and its frankly ridiculous level of service, was not worth any more of our time or money. We got up and left. Ironically, the host was standing outside in the same area where he had originally greeted us and seemed completely clueless as to why we were leaving. When my sister explained what had happened, his response was that we were supposed to walk inside the restaurant when we were ready to be seated. Seriously? We had a 7:30 PM reservation. We were ready at 7:30 PM. We were escorted to the garden by their host and left there for more than an hour without anyone telling us that we were somehow expected to seat ourselves--or announce when we were "ready." If that is actually the restaurant's procedure, it should have been clearly communicated when we were escorted outside. Guests should not have to guess how a restaurant manages its own reservations. For a restaurant associated with Michelin recognition, the entire experience was astonishingly disorganized, inattentive, and unprofessional. We never even made it to the table because the service failed before dinner could begin. Ridiculous service and an incredibly disappointing experience.
