They serve the Greater New Orleans area with free seeds, gardens, and light bulbs. All this for free and to serve the community at large! They even offer free classes to ensure you're not going to kill your plants! They come to your house and build a raised garden! And fill it with FOOD! What more do you need?! I can't believe more people aren't knocking down their door! I just grabbed more seeds than I've ever seen at Home Depot! And already scheduled my appointment for a garden!

Nothing better than an event that also benefits a charity. I brought my son, Jack along with me on this fine evening. After everyone lingered in, we were treated to a tour of the facility. I understood the concept of resale, but the behind the scenes tour brought it to a whole new level. The hugely daunting task of sorting is left to staff of arc and a never ending stream of volunteers whom sort and prep beads and throws for resale. Arc had developed a method that when put to the task, we found ourselves in a zen motion of sorting. Between specialty beads, Krewe beads and longs, we enjoyed pizza, snacks, and beverages. The best part about ARC is the countless jobs and benefits that it is able to provide to so many individuals who might otherwise not able to find gainful employment. My son and I really enjoyed ourselves and plan to come back and help again. If you find yourself riding someday in a magical mardi gras parade, please consider buying your throws from ARC. Maybe you'll look down upon me as I scream "Throw me something mister!"

I had heard a couple of horror stories about how gross bead sorting can be but this was far from the truth. Everything was neatly organized and the staff was friendly and helpful. Volunteering here creates jobs for many people so its a great way to give back. The time flew by as we sorted through countless bins of beads. You can also buy beads here so spread the word! Great activity for groups.

I have utilized the services provided by the Urban League all too often. The assistance I've received from Klassi Duncan, Toya Crosby, Frank Johnson and a host of others is INVALUABLE!!!! Operating a small business is difficult and to do it as a WOMAN of COLOR is more difficult than I can even begin to talk about, so let's not. But what I will talk about is the Urban League and the plethora of programs they provide to assist and enable you to grow and scale. From webinars, to assisting with microgrants, to distributing materials for business growth and development to personal business mentoring and assistance... this is WHERE IT'S AT for all things small businesses. I also love that the Urban League gives back to the community in a major way. I'm speaking about their yearly school supply give away, COVID-19 face mask give away and a host of other events... it's remarkable and truly a blessing to the community at large. I would love to be posted up here AT ALL TIMES because they are a great resource and I love gobbling up said resources to enhance my business; but I can't do that, so I won't, LOL. I had the honor of volunteering with New Orleans Mission while I was in town. This place does a…read morewonderful service for the city. The group I was with had set up our volunteer project beforehand. It's not that lengthy of a process to do. We showed up and were taken to where we were going to volunteer and we were on our way. Our mission was to help feed the people that came in for a meal. They had this down to a science, it moved so smoothly that it felt like a video game almost. Everything was done so efficiently that it was over so quickly that it felt like we were only there as decoration. I'm not complaining, they have been doing this longer than any of us that came to volunteer. After we were done with clean up we were give a tour of the building. We also had a sit down meeting where we were explained everything that they offer to the community. This is just one site that they oversee. Like I said, it was an honor.

Second Harvest receives donations and they also purchase food and distribute it to the masses. Various churches, ministries, schools, individuals, agencies etc are able to receive food directly from Second Harvest Food Bank. Talk about paying it forward. Thousands of pounds of food comes thru here daily & Second Harvest is trusted to get it out to various food pantries & individuals. The word NO, doesn't exist here. Never have I seen a more benevolent group of people that are ALWAYS going over & beyond to help a person/families/groups in need. This place is a haven goodness. The volunteers POUR in and give of themselves, tirelessly!!! The senior boxes alone total 19,000 EVERY MONTH and volunteers come in daily shifts to assist with packing those boxes. PLUS, Second Harvest also feeds hot plates to senior citizens, lunch for school aged kids, good for pantries & still manages to do food giveaways to the general public that don't fall into the aforementioned categories. This place is a god-send!!! They accept food & monetary donations; so if you're able, pay it forward, be good to those in need!!!

Their busiest weekend is the 2nd Saturday of each month when they get over 100 people coming in for a meal. Father Tony is a very generous and caring individual. He is down-to-earth as well as funny. He welcomes anyone to come in to volunteer whether daily or monthly. This is a great place to volunteer if you are looking for something to do on the weekend. I thoroughly enjoyed myself when I helped serve meals a few weeks ago.

We set up here for the first time as a vendor for a craft fair. When we rented the spot, we were…read moretold: 1. We would have the carport area, which will be the only way in and out during the craft show. 2. There would be plenty of foot traffic due to vendors being set up outside and inside. This was by far the worst experience we've had. We were actually the ONLY vendors outside. People came and went mainly from the doors , around the corner from us. Then a rain storm came, all the water from the gutters rushed down along the building and turned right into the carport, so we were literally set up in a small river. Noone from the craft fair mgmt came to help us or offer us to move. We ended up packing up in the rain and leaving. Having only been here for 2 hours. Major disappointment. We will never set up with this show ever again.
