This place is very hit and miss, with prices that are also sometimes unreasonable, sometimes a steal. I priced out a few garden supplies only to find they were the same exact price as Lowe's right down the street. New or not, the items are not returnable so naturally I would choose the Lowe's option. I visit this store probably every 90 days and will find that a huge amount of items have been sitting at the same price tag for six months or more. Most of the larger furniture they take in is not in the best shape and priced over $150.00. This includes couches that have been torn up by cats and stained up. Still, I visit waiting for the occasional item that is just mysteriously priced very low. Be aware that they sometimes do have % off specials - but there's only one whiteboard at the front of the store by the cashier that indicates this. read more

Great spot to stop in for upcycling doors, windows, cabinets, shutters. Etc. As well as random brand new items like water filters, light fixtures, and bird houses. You never know what builder has dropped off overstock. So always worth a peek. read more

Do NOT purchase ANYTHING from this Habitat for humanity store in New Orleans . We Purchased 2 furniture items less than 24 hours later we went to retrieve the items BUT THEY WERE NOT THERE !! Manager had a bad attitude and zero concern that they gave our items to someone else . Really got the feeling that she took them Or someone she knows took them. we Purchased a white bookshelf and nightstand made by potterybarn, sold stickers were placed on items as directed by cashier with our name and receipt number and said we would be back today for the items. They were gone . So either staff took them or a customer took them so I guess no one bothered to check their receipt!!! The items we purchased matched a twin bed there . We didn't purchase the bed , we purchased the two bookshelves . Today, the bed was gone along with our items . They refused to contact the person who bought the bed and took our items. Said and I quote , " I can't contact them behind that " Hmmm shady . We are in there a lot and have spent THOUSANDS of dollars at Restore Habitat for Humanity. Found the perfect desk that I've been needing for my home office. Solid wood, in impeccable condition, priced at $65, but they were taking 50% off all furniture, so it only cost me $32.50 The floor sales associate was very polite and helpful --very professional. Same with the cashier and the guys in the back. All of them showed excellent service skills, stemming -I'm sure- from a genuine desire to make a positive difference for their customers. Beware when buying appliances! They don't test them before putting them out for sale! We bought a dryer, unloaded it off the truck, hauled it about 60 feet to get it into position, hooked it up and it doesn't work. Got some tile for my bathroom floor at a really good price, some doors that fit in the larger space of the historic home, and some furniture. Part of the growing number of salvage building supply stores in the city. While I've found that the ReStore has more furniture and appliances than the Green Project carries, there is a huge overlap in the other stuff they sell: doors, windows, hardware, and architectural details. They also have a small area filled with used books. Toward the back, there is a conveyor belt system that goes to the second floor of the warehouse. Doesn't look like they use it, but its darn cool to stare at, which is exactly what I did. All proceeds from the store benefit the local chapter of Habitat for Humanity, so stock up and feel good about it! read more

I called this store to donate clothes (some of them new with tags), 2 couches and some small appliances. The woman that I spoke to was extremely rude. She told me that they don't accept clothes (which was fine), then she told me that they don't take small appliances. I said, "well that's odd because I've been in your several times and have seen small appliances in there". She said, "Well, small appliances like what"? After I told her what I had she asked for my name and number and told me that she would call me back with a pick up day and time (not offering any options). That was 1.5 weeks ago and I haven't heard back from them. I'm going to call The a Goodwill or Salvation Army! It's shameful that attempting to donate to charity can be such an awful experience. You shouldn't be treated poorly by ANY charitable organization. I won't be donating to Habitat For Humanity in the future. read more

I like what they have, I like their concept. unfortunately, I just don't love it. It doesn't have the magic that the green project has. If you need something a bit more mainstream than what the green project has, this is the place to go. What gives it the leg up from the green project is that you most likely don't have to do anything to the item that you are buying. For example, a higher percentage of the doors here are ready to be installed, instead of having to repaint it. read more

I haven't purchased from them but there are definitely a ride array of items for reasonable prices. From the big stuff like, furniture, mirrors, tubs, doors, to the little stuff like doorknobs, and gaskets. They are always sourcing from different venues however, so if you like something, don't leave it as it could very possibly be gone and gone forever. Also, you may have to commit to visiting every other weekend or so in order to find that item you fall in love with (for bigger items). Volunteers staff the location so be nice. This isn't your local Ace Hardware store. They may know somethings but not everything. read more

I love this place. I have yet not to find what I needed before I even knew I needed it. Scored two boxes of 24.5 square feet of wood flooring for a project. A great scaffolding ladder. Tiles and paint. Chairs and eclectic items of all sorts. If you like to find that hard to find item. And support a wonderful organization this is the place to shop. read more

We went in after seeing some chairs on Facebook that were for sale, we got there early and paid for them and told them we would be picking them up the next day. When we came in the next morning to pick them up we were walking in as a gentlemen was walking out with OUR chair... When we told the people they said there was nothing they could do... We shop at the Restore regularly but they'll also come pickup donations of large furniture items and appliances. We got a new bed and while the delivery people from the furniture store took the mattress away, the old bed was in nice enough condition to donate or sell. We called the Restore and they were gracious and polite, and came out just a few days later. The guys were polite, efficient, and incredibly grateful. I had the book and tools and hardware for the disassembled bed in a bag and they were so happy about that! They both had colds so wouldn't shake my hand (I dig the not spreading of germs!) but gave me a receipt and thanked me a billion times. I didn't do anything but still felt like a hero when they left. ;) What a great organization and one I was happy to support. read more

Purchased a really nice dining room table and wasn't able to pick it up on the pickup day. They worked with me was able to hold my table for an additional day. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful i didn't have to loft a finger staff loaded my truck up. Will definitely be going back here on a regular to check for pieces of furniture. read more

Having recently bought a house, I've gone to the ReStore quite a few times lately. I've bought a white marble table set, a bifold closet door, an outdoor shed door, and quite a bit of assorted hardware. The prices are amazing, and the staff are super friendly. I highly recommend checking out the ReStore if you're doing a remodel or housework. Some of the stuff really is high quality, or can look high quality with some elbow grease. read more

The Habitat for Humanity ReStore on Elysian Fields is a RIP-OFF! They publicize prices are 90% off retail, and the national site states this: "Habitat for Humanity ReStore is a nonprofit ... that sells to the public at a fraction of the retail price." Currently they are selling thousands of hardware store items priced at retail or very close to retain pricing. I checked online while I was there. Some of the items were marked more than retail. It's insulting. When I went to the cash register to pay for my handful of items, I was told by the cashier that the ReStore doesn't reduce prices and that they priced items at 75% of retail. WHAT A RIP-OFF!! When I got home I unpacked 2 small items and the packaging states: "SAMPLE, NOT FOR RESALE" The Habitat ReStore needs to realign its pricing strategy with the national organization FAST! read more

I have lived in two other states with Habitat Restores and unfortunately the N.O. restore is becoming more and more disappointing. In the beginning of coming to the HR I could find pretty nice cool furniture for a decent price. But lately they are becoming opportunistic with their pricing. They are WAAAAYYYYYY overpriced for essentially someone else's junk, trash, or salvaged material. For example $45 - $100 for a lamp solely b/c it came a movie set ( for free) or over $300 for a partially intact and working elliptical machine or $200 for a old table. And heaven forbid if you try to negotiate the price. Many of their staff are not so personable. I don't have alot of money to spend so reusing and recycling is my way to go but not if I have to go to the HR. I wish they would regain sight of the mission for the restore and the community and not try to be a RETAIL store. But hey they have to pay for the new bldg somehow. read more
