The whole setup is good for families, but is also very popular with cyclists. We just visited the windmill itself, where there is an interesting display of equipment, and historical items. There is a nice view from the second floor of the windmill, but bear in mind access is via steep ladder staircases, which are not suitable for those with infirmities. Most people seemed to be going to the café (lovely looking cakes) and buying bread and pastries from the bakery, which is at the front of the windmill. There is also a campsite next to mill, and a large car park.

This is a lovely place to take the family for a nice quieter day out. They have a few animals here,…read morechickens, horses, goats, sheep and you can buy the produce, eggs, cheese, butter, bread, cakes, plants. The bread is made throughout the day and is reasonably priced for a place like this and you can even have a go at making it yourself. You can go up into the windmill for a small fee, but the rest is free to walk round unless you want to buy the products or the have a refreshment in the tea room. They sometimes have special event days here too and a park for the children to play in. You can also rent one of the cottages here for a holiday.

The village of Castle Acre is a rare surviving example of a planned Norman defended settlement,…read morecomplete with castle, village (complete with a mediaeval gate and earth ramparts) and a now-ruined Priory. The castle itself was founded by William de Warenne, a leading knight in the Norman conquest, around 1070. He acquired what had been a small Saxon settlement through his wife Gunrada, whose family had also been enriched through the Conquest. He set about developing the castle with the erection of classic Motte-and-Bailey earthwork defences, although the main building seems to have been more of a comfortable defended Manor House rather than a castle. In the mid 12th Century, the complex was significantly strengthened by his grandson, William III de Warenne, doubtless in response to the civil war sparked by the contested succession after the death of Henry II. William heightened the ramparts, crowned them with curtain walls and converted the house into a large defended tower with 6ft thick walls. The castle was further developed by Hamelin Plantagenet, the second husband of William's heir, his daughter Isabel, who probably also built the town gates in the late 12th Century. However by the end of the 14th Century, the Castle was little used and may even been derelict. From the 16th Century the Castle was sold to a succession of owners, but was mainly used for grazing, and it fell further into ruin as it was used as a quarry for its stone. It came into the guardianship of English Heritage in 1971. Today the site is mainly defined by its earthworks, which are still very impressive. Parts of the curtain walls and a substantial part of of the main gate survives. The walls around the Inner Bailey are also impressive, though the main tower is but a shadow of its former self. The interpretation is modest but well done, and there are foot bridges to make access easier on foot. It's a popular spot for dog walkers, though care should be taken as there are uneven paths, some steep slopes and sheer drops. There's a footpath from the town (just along from the town gate) and a small car park off Pye Lane.

Only used this post office a few times as its my local, much rather use Heacham or another post…read moreoffice to be fair. There was a petition a while back to keep this PO open. I sadly have to differ from this and they should of closed it. They sell a range of greetings cards to which the shop is packed full of them and you cant actually move most times. not friendly for wheelchair users or people with prams. Often things cluttering the floor which is a danger to the vast amount of elderley in the village. They sell alot of tat and nothing PO related really. The service.....the lady who is often there with the short brown hair, is so rude and vile to people over the most ridiculous of things, she really shouldnt be working there. Worst thing about it is i think she is the person in charge. She has no time for younger people, happily converses with friends while a queue builds up ignoring the fact that some of us have left prams outside with kids in. She tuts, huffs and quite frankly clearly doesnt want to be there. I have written a formal complaint about this PO and hope that it is shut down or she is at least removed from working there. After discussing the service with other people in the village they also feel the same as i do, which has also resulted in a larger complaint being made about this PO. Im used to living in a city also, their opening hours are terrible. Often been in the AM and had to go back PM due to it being closed, not to mention the hour long lunch they take and half day on a weds.

This small post office offers quite a large amount of services. And in light of the Marham village…read morepost office being shut down this means that this is now the nearest post office for a lot of people. The post office can provide car tax and foreign currency along with many other services. However the opening hours are not always suitable for everyone. Particularly Wednesday afternoon's. Also it is worth noting that on week days the post collection is 4.30p.m.

This is a strange place; contrasts from tacky quay front, slightly run down & cheap looking, a…read morecouple of penny arcades chucked in for good measure, to a beach of outstanding natural beauty (and that's official, it's an AONB!). A real surprise when you climb the steps up from the car park at the end of the mile long sea wall (you can catch a diddy train there too, the Wells Harbour Railway, choo choo!). Glorious view of the salt marshes and the lifeboat station and then up over the path to the beach, wow! Miles of sand and sea and channels and dunes AND beach huts! Old fashioned ones on stilts, all different colours and states of repair. Very photogenic. There are also posher bits of Wells round the back. This is definitely a place worth exploring more; I'll give it a 10! (Oh, sorry, can't, OK a 5 then.) Need to go back and see it for longer.
