Carondelet Park is a jewel in the South City neighborhood of Carondelet. Beautiful winding road…read morethrough trees that are kind of reminiscent of the layout of Forest Park. There's a "lake' with a fountain that is peaceful and there are plenty of spots to park and sit it take a walk and rejuvenate yourself. But the crown jewel is the YMCA right inside the park. It has exercise machines, 2 aquatic centers (the outdoor one is quite spectacular in the summertime), but the best is that I'd had comfortable places to lounge, work on your laptop, get free coffees and tea (like Parisian Blackberry) or hang out with people in the Senior Hub.

I saw some people fishing which I guess is popular at this park. While I was walking on the track I was taking in the scenery and enjoying all the greenery and views. The park sits close to a neighborhood and I was just admiring the homes as I made my way around the track. I noticed they had places for horseshoe and other park activities, but things seem to be closed off right now due to COVID. People were staying distanced from one another and it was easy to walk around people if I needed to. This is a great park and I can't wait to visit it again on the next nice day we get in STL.

Kaufmann Park in St. Louis is a modest green space named after Aloys P. The park sits between 13th Street, Chestnut Street, Pine Street, and Tucker Boulevard, nestled among a series of six parks that include Poelker Park, Washington Square Park, Memorial Plaza, and Aloe Plaza. This corridor of green spaces helps frame the civic heart of downtown, with nearby landmarks like the Soldier's Memorial Military Museum adding historical weight to the area. Aloys P. Kaufmann, born in St. Louis in 1903. He rose through the ranks of city politics, becoming President of the Board of Aldermen in 1943 and then mayor after the death of William D. Becker. Kaufmann was elected to a full term in 1945 and chose not to run again in 1949. His legacy includes helping pass a $43 million bond issue that expanded Lambert Field and supporting the city's first earnings tax ordinance. The park itself is rather understated. Two baseball/softball fields and a football field are available for team sports. A couple of playgrounds are near a picnic pavilion. The covered pavilion has electricity and restrooms. The unfenced playgrounds are close to busy Chambers Road with only a wood post fence as a barrier. Because there's no lot you're forced to park on Chambers or side streets and walk next to traffic to Tanglewood.

Once you do it's a nice park with a variety of amenities, including fishing. Recent improvements--such as a new basketball court, pedestrian fishing bridge, and lakeside picnic shelter--have enhanced it. Koeneman also has a fairly large playground, two ball fields, and several picnic areas. These are all built around the fishing lake that serves as the park's unique and signature feature.

Parking is free, but be careful where you park...apparently balls can come toward your window. Most people usually come here for softball games or practice (there are two ball fields), soccer, kite-flying and dog-walking. There is an asphalt trail, which to some people is probably not long enough. Restrooms are available (though they are locked most of the time...), as well as a fountain (well, supposedly...I've never seen it run before). For those wondering about the history of the park, it is named after Union Civil War General Nathaniel Lyon, the first general to be killed in the American Civil War. He is buried in his home state Connecticut, but a statue of him as well as a monument are at Lyon Park. The park was created in 1869 under the condition that the city would a monument be created for Lyon. That monument was dedicated in 1874. Though not open to the public, the Arsenal grounds contain buildings that were used during the Civil War. So historically, there's some cool information about Lyon Park. But otherwise, this is usually a chill-spot for people who live nearby or who work at Anheuser-Busch InBev.

There's a playground, picnic pavilion, and ball field. But, Penrose also has handball courts and a velodrome--a concrete, oval inclined bicycle track. An asphalt jogging path has fitness stations along its route. Some stations sat among overgrown grass. The park is just off I-70 between the city's Penrose and Mark Twain neighborhoods.
