The "Northern Cemetery" dates back to 1827 and is the final resting place of many of Sweden's nobles and well-known citizens. That includes Alfred Nobel, the inventor of dynamite / TNT, and the initial benefactor of the Nobel Prize.
Dynamite was initially used for mining and other land development products. As with many things, it was eventually coopted for military use and weapons manufacturing. As a stable and transportable explosive, it replaced the highly unstable nitroglycerin that was far from transportable.
The cemetery is massive but you'll find Nobel's grave on the eastern side near the E4. The lane in the cemetery is called Alfred Nobels allé and at the end, you'll find the obelisk that simply reads, "Nobel".
The rest of the cemetery is also worth a visit. It is quite park-like, beautifully manicured and accessible. It is open 24 hours.
