The park has lovely views of Djurgårdsbrunnsviken (the bay that forms the northern shore of Djurgården) and Stockholm beyond. There are some statues and historical landmarks in the park, and it's a nice place to stretch your legs between museums or after a delicious meal on the island.

The Stock Exchange Building is here which houses the Nobel Museum and the Nobel Library. The centerpiece here is the well that was also designed by Erik Palmstedt. The fountain is connected to the city water system and yes, the water from the fountain is completely drinkable. Note the cannonball in the corner of building number 7 in the plaza. Legend has it that it dates back to the Stockholm Bloodbath. And yes, this was the plaza where the term "bloodbath" was coined following mass executions in November 1520. The stadium was built for the Olympics 1912 and thus is a 100 years this year. For football games it has a capacity of 14 417 spectators. Naturally it is not the most modern stadium in Sweden but it does have an old-fashioned charm. Today it mainly acts as the home pitch for Djurgårdens IF (www.dif.se) - the best and most popular club in Stockholm and commonly referred to as the pride of Stockholm. They have won 3 titles since 2000 and are by far the most successful club in the past 10 years in Sweden. Djurgården are also currently the only top level club playing in the city of Stockholm (there are a few suburban clubs fairly close to Stockholm as well). This is planned to be the last full season (yet unclear exactly when the new stadium will be finished) to be played here so do take the chance to watch some quality football here before it is too late.

The strengths at the Beach is that you have everything set up for you. The net and balls are there just waiting for you to start playing. The weakness might be the location. Even if you can get there with public transportation I feel it is a lot easier to get there by car. The instuctors at the Beach is definately among the best in Sweden and some of them even on a high international level. The tournaments called "After Beach" is a good way to meet new people who love the game. If you havn't played before their courses are a good way to get you a jumpstart.

There were five elements to see at the Royal Palace that were still open during our visit…read more The changing of the guard/marching band on Wednesday at 12:15pm was free. We arrived about half an hour to secure our spot. The event lasted for half an hour and was a mixture of ceremony, band marching and playing and some history about the tradition and the regiment of guards. The highlight of our visit. One tip that worked for us was to split the visit of the palace itself and the changing of the guards. When we visited the rest of the palace the day after there just wasn't that many people. The chapel was free to enter and was located on the second floor opposite of the entrance to the treasury. It wasn't as large or ornate as other palace chapels we've visited. The treasury showcased many crowns, scepters, keys, orbs and other objects used by past and current royals. Placards in English was available just after the ticket desk. We saw everything in around 20 minutes. Tre Kronor museum was located underground in the remains of the previous palace that burned down in 1697. The artifacts were limited but the signage throughout was helpful in context. Near the end was a movie about the fire and construction of the replacement palace. The Royal Apartments had the first and second floors open for viewing but not all of it. Most rooms were darkened for preservation but the White Sea Room (last available room on the second floor) was our favorite as it was so much more inviting. Since the tour deadends on each floor, one has to backtrack the same way to exit. Next time we're in town we'll go to Drottingham and compare palaces.

Gamla stan appears to be a touch touristy…read more Electric scooters are available to rent per minute although the speed ot the e-scooters is reduced based upon geo-tagging. It still made a quick and easy way to explore Stockholm! Dined at a Swedish restaurant in the area and the Swedish meatballs were excellent, super flavorful and their gravy was to die for! I found a souvenir shop selling tacky souvenirs for friends too.

Not that you'll find crazy rides but there's entertainment for kids with some rides, plus not to mention the lounging areas, the animals, and so much more. Came here walking from our hotel , you can catch a bus, and it was just beautiful. I highly recommend a visit. This can be an almost all day thing or just come for a few hours like we didn't.

We walked over to Skansen after the Vasa Museum. The weather was quite nice and sunny which was…read moreperfect to enjoy this outdoor museum. After entering we decided to walk the path up to the park instead of buying a ticket for the funicular. It took roughly 10 minutes on a slight incline. Skansen was huge and does take time to go from place to place. Initially we wandered from building to building and many were not staffed or only viewable from the outside. While it was interesting to read the posted signs it wasn't too interesting. At the Oktorp farmstead, we finally found the first staffed location and got to see and learn about dying of yarn. Here we also learned which buildings were staffed and from that point forward gave us a plan of how to tackle Skansen and made the visit much more enjoyable. We had a great conversation about politics in the People's House which was very appropriate and compared it against present day in both our countries. Many parallels. We learned more about typical farm life in the Skane Farmstead while stooping low inside the house and that led to the Delsbo Farmstead. Delsbo was quite the opposite as it was ornately decorated with detailed wall paintings paid for by the well to do family per the staff. I highly encourage anyone visiting to engage with the staff as they were very enthusiastic about sharing their knowledge of the period or activities that went on in that particular farmstead, building, church, etc. We skipped seeing all the animals they kept towards the back of Skansen as well as the aquarium. Overall spent over 2 hours here and likely could've spent more if more buildings were staffed and open. Glad the weather held throughout our visit.

We took Stockholm Adventures' Archipelago Sailing Tour a week or so ago when we were visiting…read moreStockholm. I really wanted to spend a day out in the Archipelago to experience more than just what Stockholm's beautiful touristed areas have to offer. The Stockholm Archipelago is the largest archipelago in Sweden, and the second-largest archipelago in the Baltic Sea. The Stockholm Archipelago has been found to have slightly over 24,000 islands, islets, and skerries and covers approximately 1,700 km² (of which approximately 530 km² is land). As far as I was concerned, we just had to spend a day exploring it while we were in Sweden. I found Stockholm Adventures after another tour company cancelled our tour a couple of days before the tour we had booked with them. Stockholm Adventures made it easy to book another tour, so we didn't have to miss the Archipelago or rework our itinerary for the trip! The sailing tour was 8 hours long, and our guides provided a wonderful Smörgåsbord lunch and Fika in the afternoon. Our guide gave us a bit of a sailing lesson (he left this up to us, whether we wanted to learn about sailing or whether we just wanted to enjoy the day), which was great (might have piqued my interest to learn more about sailing now that I'm home). Our guides were very friendly and informative; we learned so much about the way that locals view life in Stockholm, the Archipelago, and Sweden. We also were able to visit an island that serves as our guide's boat club's Archipelago home, since it wasn't a weekend. Our tour ended up just being the two of us, so the tour felt very personalized to our interests. The information on the website and that we received by email before the tour was very helpful and informative (so we knew what to bring and where to meet once we arrived in Vaxholm). The day was a pleasure from start to finish, and I'm so glad we found this tour. It really added to our trip to Sweden. I wouldn't hesitate to use the company again if we are able to return to Sweden.
