Previously, I'd only reviewed the Red Oak Ballroom which is part of the Norris Conference/Event Center. With that said, I'm here to inform that the center & its staff are incredibly professional---this would include the layout, cleanliness, setup, etc. of the center as well as the professionalism, knowledge, and friendliness of the staff. What a day! Aquafit, Carwash, Refugee Bazaar, Zumba and the close with a Pastor's Reception at the Norris Conference center. I can now exhale. The Norris Conference Center is on Anderson Lane nestled next to the Walmart shopping center (somewhat hidden.) The reception was in the main ballroom with food served in a side room. The conference center appears to be ideal for corporate events, special occasions, and meetings. It is spacious with all the amenities you would expect at conference center, i.e., tables with linens, audio visuals, DJ section, spacious room, etc. The ballroom had a large screen projector, space for a DJ, raised stage and an audio-visual (AV) system. The food was a hit and miss. The chicken piccata was delicious. The vegetables and rice were a bit bland. The staff was very attentive, removing plates and utensils quickly. There were several times when the microphone was not working. I was not able to tell if the right AV folks were present or if this is a pervasive issue. Because the conference center is in a shopping center, there is ample free parking. I have been to Norris Conference many times over the years and find it to be a well-maintained facility. read more

It's hard to believe that after 14 years there's less than 20 reviews and few pictures. This place is located behind the Walmart and at the rear of Northcross Mall. It is a series of different rooms of which the red oak ballroom is the largest. All the rooms are equipped with screens and AV hook ups. There is a common area that is shared by three of the conference rooms, so that can be a little tight if all three are rented out at the same time. I came here for a company event and we rented their largest room which holds about 200 people. The Red Oak room has a large partition wall and a carpeted floor with two windows off to the side for some natural lighting. The rooms are fairly sparse and appeal more to business events. In other words, there's no dance floor or chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. They did serve up a breakfast buffet for our large group and it was just OK, nothing memorable. It made me wonder if they picked up some of the fixens from the Walmart next-door. The staff were attentive and the room stayed cool for the hours long meeting. I have attended a couple of exhibitions and large meetings here, and it seems to me the team at Norris is top notch. This older shopping center is one I remember when Anderson Lane was on the northernmost edge of Austin. In those days, I shopped at the old, beloved Frost Department Store (how I miss the sales and quality women's clothing!). So, this is now a conference center and they keep it quite clean and presentable, and there's lots of parking. A bit off the radar but definitely worth considering for your next event. read more

I've spent PLENTY of time here. I've been to two 3 day (12 hrs each day) conferences here, so I almost feel like it's home. Almost. I've now been in four rooms here. I think that might be all of them, but there might be another one. It's a nice place. It's newish or remodeled. Once you find it the first time, it's easy to get to. (Google Maps was NOT helpful). Parking is ample and despite the large number of people attending just what I was here for, it never was hard to find a spot and you don't have a long hike to get to the building. It's located near several eating establishments and they provide maps pointing those out. The place tends to run cold so bring a sweater. You'll feel funny because you'll be bundled up like it's winter then walk out to whatever the weather is truly like. That's fine by me though. Rather layer than be roasting. I'd have probably gone with 4 stars until this past three day seminar. There is a skating rink next door, at least I think that's why I was INCESSANTLY hearing kids yelling and carrying on while in the middle of some major, soul-searching type of work. That was ANNOYING. I don't know if there is anyway they can sound proof it better, but that would be well worth looking into. It really put me off. Other than that, it's a nice facility. I'll be back. As I have signed up for more soul-searching, but I really hope we aren't in THAT room again. read more

Our team visited the Norris Center for a seminar and we really did enjoy ourselves. Although the seminar didn't provide us food accommodations, the Conference center had a jewelry bazar and another meeting going on that kept us entertained! The smell of the food was Devine! The bathrooms were very nice and super clean. I can only imagine hosing a wedding or large event there! read more

When you call to talk to the people here, they are nice. I cannot get over how expensive this place is however. They want to charge $5,700 to use 4 of their rooms and then they start to nickel and dime you to death. They charge $250 for A/V equipment for just one of the rooms and $450 for their larger room. You can expect a predatory 23% surcharge on everything you order. If you want cookies at the event for example, they will charge $11 per person. So for 300 people that is $3,300 and PLUS the junk 23% surcharge costing another $759. That means just to have cookies it will cost over $4,000! Forget about lunch or drinks. They see you coming and are unabashedly predatory. read more

It's what I'd expect for a conference center. Decent enough rooms and the temperature seems relatively stable. Good wi-fi and the catering was just about right. The catering was better than the average box lunch and not as adventurous as some of the hoity-toity hotels. Definitely a very good option for business conferences and meetings. read more

I spent my summer here taking a Barbri course (9 weeks). The lighting here is kind of depressing. The number of tables and chairs in our room would fluctuate from day to day. Usually this wasn't a problem, but there were a few days where we didn't have enough seats for everyone. Also, I wish they had put signs up to let others know we were taking a class. Several times, random people would walk in during the middle of lecture. read more

What a great experience having a training event here! We needed 3 rooms, food, AV, etc for an all day meeting. The food was amazing!!! Afternoon popcorn bar was the best! Lunch was great as well. This is a fantastic facility - many conference rooms of different sizes to choose from. The staff was top Notch - they couldn't have been more helpful! And the faculty manager, Deborah Lampkin was so amazingly helpful with every need we had throughout the day!! Can't say enough good things about our experience! Parking is ample - it s a it hard o find at first - If looking at Walmart, it's to the left and the entrance is what I would consider to be the "back" side. I would definitely hold an event/training here again the next time we need a facility like this one. read more

Several trainings here. Parking can be time consuming. The food when served is alright. The chef seems limited in creativity.

We had our wedding here in March 2015, and everything was great. The room was large enough to accommodate both our families and then some. We had our ceremony accross the hall as well and it was great. Similar to what I would expect from a large hotel ballroom. We were pleased with our decision to have our wedding here. read more

I come here monthly for a business event. You can tell that the management really care about the success of the gathering. I see the manager walking around constantly pitching in along with her team. This goes a long way in my book. As far as logistics, screens, mics etc always work properly, parking is easy and space holds multiple size events to accommodate many different types of events. read more

Hosted a 3 day training at the Norris Conference Center in Austin earlier this month. It is located conveniently between 183 and mopac. Great parking and nice restaurant selection to choose from in the evenings around the area. The facility is well designed for trainings and meetings. Each room has its own thermostat, rooms have built in projectors and screens. The lunch and coffee break selections were delicious. It worked great for our needs and I highly recommend this place. Service was awesome, always someone on hand to provide whatever it was we needed. I am so happy to find this jewel off Anderson and Burnett. read more

We've used the Norris center 2 times in 2018. We are small business owners and needed a very affordable event space and we thought Norris was a perfect fit until we showed up(excited the day before) just to check out the space in public. Jamie Brackett was the point of contact but brushed us off within 2 minutes of meeting her. We then come to find out that we were over charged(later fixed). On our second occasion we were shocked to see we were overcharged $200 due to Jamie once again not placing the total amount including the (23% service charge) in a space meant for the TOTAL CHARGE!! Not a problem, we went ahead and took care of it on our end while we waited 48 hours to hear back from Jamie's Boss(corporate Linda). Once Linda gave us a call back she proceeded to BLAME us for the discrepancy on OUR end 3X. I've worked in events and sales, I didn't know blaming the customer was something that ethically inclined companies participated in. They also offered us a $100 credit to go towards our next event--- which wont be happening. I rather work with honest people. We are hard working entrepreneurs and work extremely hard for our income.
