I came to the ZACH Theater for the first time. "Dear Evan Hansen" is an emotional story that really stays with you. The performances captured the vulnerability and loneliness at the heart of the show. The themes of connection, mental health, and the need to be seen feel incredibly relevant. It's not always an easy watch, but it's meaningful and worth it. I felt every character and it truly had me breaking into tears. Getting tickets at "will call" was easy. The Libby had lots of seating. Tables and chairs, and small lounge couches. There was a young women singing on a small stage with a guitar. Played a few songs that we all knew. And charmed us with her own original song. Beautiful voice. There is a small bar in the back. I did get a small cocktail and a box of popcorn. The auditorium room had wonderful seats. It looks like row K is the best seat because they have like a small bar like table in front of you. The chairs don't have cupholders. So you end up having to hold everything or place on the floor. No one obstruct your view from the stage. Every seat is a good seat. Parking is easy. I paid $15.00 and found parking easily. I was also a little early for the show. I just started following ZACH on IG to see up coming shows. If you want to see this show, they did say they are extending to May. I hope you come see the show and support the local theater. read more

We became Zach XP members in Jan and this was our first show since joining, my wife is a huge Agatha Christie fan and so I got the tickets for Valentine's day. We went early as that is who we are, and this was great. The cast was amazing, the sets were fun and the use of the screen added to the feeling and drama. We took seats with a bar in front to store your drinks and snacks which is great. You get discounts on parking, drinks, and merch which is also nice, we took an uber/lyft but good to know if we ever drive. The staff was all friendly and helpful, they had entertainment before the show in the lobby, a singer who was quite good though we only saw the last 2 or 3 songs by her. As is normally the case anytime you go out to a place like this the drinks are fairly pricey and small. Made well though, they have a nice feature where you can use a QR code to order for intermission to have your drinks and snacks waiting at a central table to save time. SHANA SAYS: I appreciate having Zach as a cultural resource. The facilities are great! Actors are great! One thing that could use some work is the bathrooms. Since intermission is only 20 mins, at least at this show, the bathrooms both had long slow lines. They had a men and women's restroom and there were about 4 urinals and 4 stalls. I made it back but just barely and there were people behind me and even more in the woman's restroom line. The positives outweigh the downsides and we have loved the few shows we have seen here. Always a fabulous venue for plays and other performances. I went to see Dear Evan Hansen and it didn't disappoint. They have several stands to order drinks and snacks and some other booths to promote their businesses nearby. The wait to order a drink was a bit long where I was standing that it almost made me late to get up my seat. I think you can preorder at intermission and have it waiting for you as I did see a table full of drinks and names next to them with an attendant. Staff is super helpful on finding your seats and ours were amazing. The view and sound were perfect. There's parking nearby that made an easy walk inside. read more

What an amazing experience! My wife and I attended Dear Evan Hansen at the Zach Theatre. We didn't know much about the storyline, but decided to check it out. First of all, the parking situation was easy. You pay $15 to park right outside of the venue. Secondly, the staff were extremely friendly and guided us to will call and to our seats. Prior to the show and during the intermission, there are bars available to order beer, cocktails, wine and snacks. They also offer complimentary small bites before the show. They had a woman performing live music before the show as well, which was a nice treat. The venue was small and intimate so there are no bad seats in the building. Lastly, the show itself was phenomenal. It had us hooked in within the first 5 minutes. The actors were fantastic and had great voices. The topics and themes throughout the play were deep and profound. When my wife and I left, we found ourselves in insightful conversation as we discussed our thoughts after the show. Definitely a great experience and we will absolutely return to see another show! We will most likely bring our friends and family with us when we come back! read more

I was lucky enough to see the world premiere of Zapata tonight. It is so nice to see some original material and music! I was so impressed to see what they did with this show with just 5 people. The set was fun, and the round Whisenhunt theater was used really well, and makes for great people watching. I loved the back and forth of English and Spanish, although you don't need to be bilingual to understand what is going on. I loved the themes that were explored, from nodding to ICE with the character Helado, to wielding la chancla as a superpower, this show has layers! This show is also a tight 70 minutes, no intermission, and something kids to adults of all ages will enjoy. Lucero Garcia as Xochitl is a star with an incredible voice, and everyone else serves some serious face! The original main song "hero" is my favorite. Get yourself down to the Camino de Estrellas and enjoy this new show at Zach during it's original run. Andale, Zapata! read more

The Zach Theatre plays some of the best shows and musicals in Austin. I watched the musical Waitress here recently. The diner set on stage was very well set up and looked quite realistic. The show was great and I was thoroughly impressed by the performance of all actors, especially the lead actress who played Jenna. They are all very talented. I am reviewing the Zach as a venue during SXSW. I've attended the SXSW film festival for many years, but this was my very first time going to the Zach - and I like it. It's a small performing arts theater, but it's quite comfortable for watching movies. I grabbed an aisle seat so I'd have some more room, and I'm glad I did because the seats are a bit cramped. The sound was good and the slightly curved screen was nice. There's an easily accessible bathroom, too. The line-up process here isn't great, and it was a bit confusing during SXSW. The queues are completely outside, which isn't ideal. There were no volunteers to help direct me to the express line, and I was standing in the wrong one for about 15 minutes before I realized. There's a tent that provides some shade and cover, but bring a sweater because when it's cold, that breeze will rip right through the open-sided tent. My hubby was with me and acting as my chauffer all week, and drop-off / pick-up was pretty easy. It gets congested with Uber and all that, but a few minor traffic back-ups and he was on his way. This is a decent venue for SXSW, and it's walkable across the bridge from downtown. read more

As a former drama teacher and forever thespian, I was amazed stepping into the world of Austin's ZACH Theatre for the very first time with their wonderful production of The Wizard of Oz. We went for my daughter's birthday and--my oh my--lions and tigers and bears, oh my! This production was worth every penny. The band, the performers, the ushers, the bartenders, everyone played a part in bringing the magical world of Oz to life for our family. For my daughter, this is her absolute favorite book and story, and you truly made her dreams come true. At a time when we recently learned she has some heart issues, this story carried even more weight for us. Tears filled our eyes as the Tin Man gave one of the best performances we've ever seen. And as a little tap dancer herself, my daughter was amazed by what she saw on stage. Thank you, ZACH Theatre and the entire company, for bringing it home. The shows at Zach Theater are always great! The theater is so intimate. Even the back row feels like you're part with the performance. We recently went to see "Waitress" and it was excellent. Full of laughter and emotions. I highly recommend it. They do have food and drinks available that you can take into the theater. This place is great...well-oiled machine. I've never had a bad experience with this theater. From purchasing tickets either online or using the phone to get help with ticket questions to when I made a mistake and purchased the wrong tickets, they helped me fix it. Can't say enough good things about the numerous shows I've come to see at Zach Theatre. Firstly, I'm a huge fan of musicals and the actors here are top notch with absolutely incredible voices. Most recent show was A Christmas Carol and it was wonderfully done with the insertion of new aged music woven through the story. I am constantly impressed with the quality of shows at ZACH Theater. I'm honestly a bit of a snob when it comes to performing arts, before moving to Austin I did not hold local theaters to a very high standard. But I've seen three shows at ZACH since moving to Austin and each one has been incredible, with amazing talent, impressive set design, and beautiful direction. The intimate setting of the theater enhances each performance as well, even in the very back row it feels like you have the perfect view. I have to give a special shoutout to the current production of Jersey Boys. I saw this show on Broadway and saw 2 national tours, and this production beat them all. I enjoyed it so much more than the other times I've seen it on stage, and was so impressed with the 4 main stars and all members of the ensemble. Truly a great production! read more

I had an AMAZING TIME at the Zach theater. I went to go see Waitress and I just wanted to start by saying there are NO bad seats in the house. The venue is very intimate and the show was fantastic. They had a performer playing before and after the show and had a merchandise station with virtually no line. Not to make any unnecessary comparisons, but I've seen about 3 shows at Bass Concert Hall and enjoyed my experience at Zach more. For the same price, you can get an EXPONENTIALLY better seat here. Took my wife on Valentines (Saturday) for a matinee. It was pouring rain and chilly when we walked in and received such a warm welcome. The layout was explained perfectly while our tickets were scanned. The room was filled with the sound of a young woman singing beautifully while playing acoustic guitar. We grabbed a drink at the bar and moved into one of the most comfortable theaters we've ever been in. The production was amazing but the experience even better. Highly recommend. read more

Thanks to Yelp I was able to see Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet 1812 and OHMYGOSH what a show!!!! As soon as it started, I found myself smiling from ear to ear for the duration. The drama, the engagement, the plot twist- all just blew me away. Let's start with arrival at ZACH. They have both street (ParkATX) and lot ($12) parking. I was lucky enough to snag a street park and save a few dollars (: I then went to will call to pick up my tickets. I was also provided a coupon for free popcorn before being granted access to the lounge where I was able to wait for the show to start! The show started at about 7:37 pm and had a 20-minute intermission. The cast members put on a great performance and were very interactive with the crowd! There was even on-stage seating and those viewers were able to participate in different parts of the performance! One of the most interactive shows that I have ever seen. I'm sure they have a plethora of amazing shows, I saw the Little Mermaid was coming up, but would definitely recommend this one! Can't wait to attend my next show (: read more

We returned to see a fantastic production of Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812. It was excellent! They really nailed it. And it worked perfectly in this theater, thanks to special staging that allowed the audience to sit in 365 degrees around the stage, and for the actors and musicians to intermingle with the audience through the entirety of the production. We arrived early. Parking attendants made parking easy. They had a great singer/musician entertaining us in the lobby. The bar served tasty beverages. The staff were very friendly, from the will call desk to the ushers, bartender and the hostess in the lounge upstairs. You can also place an drink order in their app and it will be ready for you at intermission. The lighting during the production was excellently done, and the mix on the music and vocals was perfect. All the music was performed live, but it sounded like a studio mix. I was impressed. This Tolstoy-inspired musical was very different than Head Over Heels, the Bangles-inspired musical. I mean... they couldn't have been more different. But we enjoyed seeing both of them here. It really is a nice venue! read more

I was invited by Yelp to attend ZACH Theatre and had the pleasure to see A Christmas Carol for free. I had wonderful seats -- quite frankly there isn't a bad seat in the building. The entry staff was awesome as they held the door open for us and helped direct us to Will Call and then the upstairs lounge. The gentleman working merchandise was super cool as he held our purchases for us to retrieve after the show so we didn't have to hold our bags. The bartender was also really friendly and made a great mocktail -- their sugar cookies like everyone else says are quite great. I had coffee with mine and it was great. The restrooms are super clean and the place is well ventilated and cool but not freezing. Parking was easy and was $12, card only. I cannot wait to get the opportunity to check out ZACH again! read more

I was able to find parallel parking (free on Sunday) alongside the street closest to Topfer. Every team member that I came across was friendly and helpful. The venue itself was clean, tastefully decorated and well thought out. The play itself was hilarious. Talent was top-notch. And the acoustics were phenomenal. First impression was a, "Where is will call?" --which were to the right when you entered building. They gifted the audience popcorn vouchers, which isn't current at all. In the lobby were seats to a woman entering before the play. There is a quant bar beside the left door to enter the building. Fun Fact: Knowing that the theater is the oldest in Texas and one of the oldest in the country and attending a musical was an honor. The employees were helpful and courteous. Walking into the theater, was intimate and warm. My seat was Row O seat 307 and 308. Anywhere you sat was a good seat. I am a huge Carole King fan and being able to attend was the sweetest thing. More memories being made as we speak, or write. The play was approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes. The musical was wonderful! Needless to say, the Zach Theater is beautiful and worth it! Clean and plentiful bathrooms (lines move fast) and the bars are quick with the optional prepay for intermission. #Easy Most recently went and saw Ramstein's Cinderella that was also done is ASL and it was GORGEOUS. ZACH Theatre is a true gem, and watching A Christmas Carol here has become one of my favorite holiday traditions! The location is fantastic--walking distance to great bars and restaurants for pre- or post-show food and drinks. Parking is convenient, with ample, reasonably priced lots around the theater, plus the option to park further into the neighborhood if needed. The ushers are always friendly, and the festive atmosphere with music and holiday decorations makes every visit extra special this time of year. What a phenomenal production! This was such an inclusive experience in every way. It was family friendly and catered to every member of the audience regardless of age. It was so fun to see several young girls in their Cinderella dresses and how engaged they were to the actors and the performance in its entirety. The performance was in spoken word, ASL, and subtitles. The subtitle font was large and legible from every seat in the house. The theater is very intimate and so every ticket is a great ticket. There was a perfectly timed intermission which had a special feature that I have not encountered before. The feature was the ability to preorder beverages and snacks before the performance and then pick it up at the concession stand at intermission with no wait time. The menu was so fun, with names lending nods to the performance. There was a red carpet area for pictures, complete with a ring light for perfect lighting. I didn't get a chance to experience this area given that it was quite a hit with the younger members of the audience. Parking wasn't too bad of a hustle. We opted for paid parking at the garage across the street. There were some closures and cones around closer parking spots due to debris from the storm and some construction. I definitely recommend this performance and will be on the lookout for others like it! read more
