I called in the morning to reserve a cab at 1:50 PM. The cab did not arrive. I called around 1:55, and again at 2:10. I was told that the driver was on his way and that my request was prioritized. I would give zero stars were that an option. Have had OK service from Norshore Cab in the past but their service has dropped to an abominable LOW. Had an important appointment Friday, 9/28/2023. Called Norshore 1/2 hour in advance. Waited outside, and waited and waited, until it was impossible to make my appointment on time. I keep calling and finally got through automated messages and spoke with two representative who said "no cabs were in the area"!!! They tell me this when I have already had to cancel my appointment? Where were the cabs? Why didn't they inform me in a timely way so I could figure out something else before it was too late??? Why didn't they call me afterwards to at least say "sorry". I live in Evanston, not in some sparsely populated rural area, so what is up with the "no cabs in the area" bull ?????? If I could rate zero stars I would! In the aftermath of the winter storm I called a cab to take me to a gas station. I received a call saying 10 minutes. After 15 minutes I received a call just as I saw the driver drive right past my house. He did't even slow down. I waited for him to turn around but no luck. I called for the status of my ride and was told the ride was cancelled because the driver called an no one came out! So the expectation is that riders wait at the curb in sub zero wind chills based on an estimated ETA so their driver doesn't have to stop?. This is the worst customer service ever. read more

Short Version : 1 star for convenience and a very sweet dispatch girl who tried to help. Absolutely no stars for anything else though. Long Version : I am a frequent cab rider. I regularly oversleep, and, if it's dark out or I'm drunk, I am intimidated by the trains. (This is a somewhat new development. Apparently, turning almost-30 makes you a pansy.) So I know a thing or two about good service in cabs. Norshore had always been a low level dissonant hum in the background symphony of my head until today. My experiences have included encounters with a cab driver who wanted to discuss capitalism at length when I was so barely awake it wasn't even funny, listening to a cabbie argue loudly with his mother (yeah) about some familial issue, and just general strange interactions that left me with a bad taste in my mouth (and occasionally, in my soul). But in general, it's been a consistent service that I could rely on to get me from Howard to my office in Skokie without a headache. Quirky cab service is a staple of the Chicago non-driver lifestyle. I'm used to it. This morning, however, the low dissonance turned into a full on cacophony of awful. I was running late (thanks, #22 Clark bus), and hopped into a convenient Norshore cab at the Howard station. There's always a little line of them, so I think I've gotten one several times a month for the past year or so. Hopped into the cab, and it's a driver who's driven me before, and even remembers where I'm going, which is pretty great. Ride itself is uneventful, driver was safe. When we get to my office, I pull out my credit card and apologize for not carrying cash, which I usually do for these short cab trips. (It was about $10.) I know how much Chicago cabbies hate using credit cards, and I both understand the frustration on their end and don't appreciate getting a ten minute lecture every time I take out a credit card. He huffed and looked at the meter, then back at me, and says "You don't have $10 cash?" and I said "No, I'm really sorry, just my debit" and he huffs more. Asks if I will go to an ATM. I apologize again and say no. Finally, he starts poking at the credit card machine and says "The machine is down" repeatedly. Mind you, he is clinging to my card like I'm going to jump out of the cab and cackle wildly at the whopping $10 charge I've weaseled out of if he gives it back to me. Finally, he gets the manual card swipe machine, and takes the carbon of my card. He meticulously writes down the date, then demands to know how much of a tip I will give him. So I tell him, and he hands it back to me, then says "You need to write your number in case it doesn't work." Cool, no problem, but I assure him it will be fine. I get out of the cab, after telling him to have a nice day and being grunted at in response. Not twenty minutes later, my phone rings with an unfamiliar number. It goes to voicemail, and I check it a few minutes after that. The message begins with a description of how "the machine" is still not working but my card has been declined. Which is, in and of itself, pretty weird. How can a card be declined if you can't even run it? Beyond that, I just got paid and, as a 20-something with poor check balancing skills, I check my online balance more or less every 8-12 minutes. I'm like the Red Line of bank balances. So I kinda roll my eyes and prepare to call him back and ask him to try it later, since it sounds like his machine is acting up. This is where it gets straight up effing creepy. He then proceeds to angrily accuse me of trying to cheat him, then demands that I call him back by the end of the day, saying he "knows what he'll do" if I don't call him back. After shaking for a minute, I call his dispatch and speak to a lovely woman. I explain the situation to her and say, very explicitly, "I don't want to cheat this guy out of his money, but I do not appreciate being threatened over a $10 fare." She is incredibly apologetic, agrees that that is not acceptable, then puts me on hold for a minute. She comes back, says he's been suspended for the day and will be called in to speak with a general manager. She tells me that their credit card processing system was down that morning and that he (the driver) should have known that, and shouldn't be calling me directly about it if there's a problem. She apologizes again and says that she will have a general manager call me back. **Review Edit** It's been almost two weeks and no one has called me back. Stopped by the cab stop by the Howard station and he's still picking people up. I'm just not going to take Norshore cabs going forward, no matter how convenient. 3 strikes, you're out! I am a loyal customer, they have all my name and # on file so all I have to do is call and say what time and where and it's taken care of. But as of today, I am done with this cab company. Strike #1: After clearly stating over the phone that I would need to use my credit card, the cab driver drops me off and YELLS at me when I try to use it. He berated me for wanting to use my credit card, telling me it wasn't worth the trip, etc. Strike #2: In the wee hours of the morning, slightly tipsy, I decide it is safer to take a cab the half mile to my house than to brave Howard Street which varies in safety. I get in a cab that is waiting in a long line to take drunk Northwestern students to Evanston. He informs me he doesn't go to Chicago locations. WTF? YOU'RE IN CHICAGO! So I try another cab... same story, then they all lock their doors to me and I had to walk home. I called the company and the operator gave me some story about how some cabs aren't licensed to go from Chicago to Chicago locations. Which may be true, but seriously? I think these drivers just wanted to get their monies worth from the drunk students. Strike #3: This morning I call a cab (who by the way drove me from Chicago to Chicago). He arrives a few minutes late, takes his time driving me, but since I have a cold and probably annoyed him with my coughing and blowing nose, I tip him fairly well. I get out of the cab and am walking away when he rolls down his window and yells, "why you leave your tissues in my backseat?!" I apologize and say, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to." and open the back door to get them. Guess what, they aren't even mine! So I say, "These aren't mine, but I'd be happy to throw them away for you." He says, "they aren't yours?! humph." and drives away pissed at me! Overall, Bad customer service, Bad drivers, Below par cabs (rundown and dirty), and dumb licensing rules. Used the service to catch a flight from Midway on 1/12. Cab driver insisted that his credit card machine was broken and couldn't pay with card, even though the machine accepted my card. It was an uncomfortable situation that he took advantage of. So where does that leave us? If we hypothetically didn't have ANY cash, we would have had to just not pay the cab, right? I don't recommend ANYONE to use this service. I've had better airport transportation service from another local cab company that has 3 digits in their name. read more

I was on a business trip in Skokie, Illinois and on my last day needed to get a ride back to the airport. I flipped through my hotel's yellow pages, randomly chose this company, called and made a reservation.. I'll never choose a cab company that quickly again... So the day I was leaving around 2 pm my cab arrived. I first noticed that the vehicle itself was kind of junky on the outside, but whatever. The driver comes out and he's an older slow moving man, and instantly I notice that he seems really out of it and kind of senile. Once I'm inside the cab and he's driving, he says he needs to stop and get gas first. I'm like ok.. I don't have much experience taking cabs but is this normal? I don't think so right? While we're driving, he asks me for my credit card to pay the fare early. This definitely does not seem right. I replied, "I thought I was supposed to pay when we get to the airport??" He mumbles something. After we get to the gas station and he refills the tank, he asks me again for my credit card to pay the cab fare early. I said again, "Can't I pay you after you take me to the airport??" He says something like "ok sure mam." But seriously, that's not normal and a little shady right? Then while he's driving, he starts swerving and shit into the other lanes. He nearly swerves into the lane of opposite traffic two times and gets honked at by various cars. I'm starting to freak out inside and thinking I should have just got out of the car much earlier and called a different cab. I don't know what the heck was going on with the driver, it didn't seem like he was doing it on purpose, but was just extremely out of it or something... overall, it was just scary. We finally get to the airport and I'm so ready to get the hell out. The driver takes *forever* to swipe and process my credit card. I wanted to get my get my bag out of the trunk while he was taking his slow ass time, but I didn't trust leaving my card in there. After that ride I didn't trust anything about the driver or the cab. When I was back at work a few days later and told my coworkers about what happened, my boss told me next time to just go to the concierge desk and have them arrange a ride for me. read more

Preface: At 4:30AM, I called to schedule a cab pickup for 5:30AM at my house. This is 2 days after Snowpocalypse 2011 that hit Chicago (most major roads are cleared by now). My call was to go from Niles to the CTA Blue Line Station (4.4 miles). The tired CS rep assured me that they had sufficient fleet to process my request. Time line of Events: 5:30 AM - I'm waiting at the front steps of my door, no cab. 5:40 AM - 1st call to cab service, they say the driver is running behind due to ice and will be there within 5 minutes (understandable due to ice still being on the roads) 5:55 AM - 2nd call to cab service, they tell me they see the driver's status and he is less than 1 mile away, claim only 2-3 minutes more. 6:10 AM - 3rd call to cab service, CS rep states there's no cab coming. His reasoning is they put the job into a call list and a driver is supposed to pick it up. I ask him, is it not the responsibility of the cab company to inform me that no one is picking up the job instead of leading me every few minutes. He stated there was nothing he could do. 6:15 AM - I call Niles Flash Cab instead who arrive in less than 10 minutes (as promised). In conclusion, I don't often take cabs unless I hail one in downtown. But this service was misleading, unreliable, and uncooperative. With this type of service, they will ultimately deplete their new customer base as no one in their right mind would call them a second time. I wil NEVER use these people again. I called the day before to schedule a pick up at 3:30AM the next morning. I made it clear that I needed the cab to be prompt because I was going to the airport. They said no problem. I called them at 3:32AM to make sure the cab was coming. The man told me no cab was coming. He apparently had my reservation but just told me that there weren't enough cabs out that morning. I cursed at him and he hung up. I called Blue Ribbon and Yellow and they each had a cab in front of my place in 5 minutes. I will NEVER call Norshore again and will discourage anyone I speak with from using them as well. read more

I took a cab from my hotel in Evanston to Midway airport for a flat rate of $55. I tipped $10 on top of that, bringing the total to $65. I got off the plane to discover that my bank account was overdrawn because the cab driver had charged me $650 for the ride! I called the company right away and they said they would refund the entire ride since, according to them, the driver overcharged me on the flat fee to the airport. They never asked me which airport I went to (there are 2 in Chicago). Later, the company called back to say that since they discovered I was going to Midway, the driver had charged me the right flat fee and they would, in fact, be charging me the $65. This seems like VERY poor customer service to me. It was their mistake (both times) and, while they got paid right away, my bank account was tied up for an entire day until I could get this sorted out. Had they kept their word and refunded the entire fee (which was their idea in the first place, not mine), I would be giving them 4 more stars. If I'm ever in Evanston again, I will be avoiding this cab company. read more

I used to use Norshore regularly, but then after experiencing serious problems numerous times, I decided to switch (to 303). Some of the issues that had come up over the years included (1) cabs not showing up after I had called for them ahead of time; (2) disgustingly dirty cars that smelled really badly; (3) dangerous drivers. Regarding no-shows, when I would call, I'd be told that they had a 15 minute window in showing up. Unfortunately, this means that for 15 minutes they won't do anything. Then when your cab doesn't show up in that window, you can imagine how much after your preferred reservation time one actually does show up. This is not helpful when you have a flight to catch. Norshore does not give you a confirmation number so it is your word against theirs as to whether you even made a reservation. I had experienced disgustingly smelly cabs several times and started fearing having such a cab show up every time I ordered service. A couple of times I had drivers who made me fear for my life given the way they zig-zagged on the roads at high speeds. I ended up switching to 303 and have never looked back. (303 is not perfect either, of course, but I have not had the above problems since.) read more

Now you book a cab automated and it calls you back in 10 minutes saying they dont have enough cabs and to try again. A driver ALMOST HIT ME (reversing in a pedestrian crosswalk during my signal), and the manager was supremely RUDE to me when I called to report it. Saw the taxi pull around the corner and stop in the crosswalk, talking on his cell phone. The light changed so I started to walk behind his car giving several feet between him and myself, and indeed he started backing up and didn't stop even when I yelled and finally banged on the trunk. Called and reported and got transferred to 3 diff. dispatchers before getting the manager's number. I was trying to book a cab to pick up my friend from O'hare this week, so I called yellow cab (having had some limited success with their company in the past) but the very nice dispatcher informed me that they don't book cabs from the airport since there are already cabs there. Instead, she offered to transfer my call to a "partner company in the suburbs" that would book a cab for me... and transferred me to Norshore. I've hailed Norshore cabs before... heck, one even saved my life (I'm convinced of it) when they picked me up at Howard one January night a few years ago when it fell below -15 and I just couldn't wait another 20 minutes for my bus to show up... and they haven't been THAT bad, but the phone call with the dispatcher? Terrible. The dispatcher was rude, sounded fed-up the entire time, and took down every piece of information incorrectly. My name, the address, the time... EVERYTHING. They didn't even ask who they were meant to be picking up, they just assumed it was me... yeah, I'm calling from an 847 number so you can pick me up from an international flight in five hours. Having had to repeat every detail four or five times, the dispatcher then said "call us when your flight lands and we'll direct you to a cab". If I have to call, then why am I booking a cab to pick up my friend?? To which she replied "we need to know if you got there - we're not going to have a cab waiting if there's no-one there." What??? Am I completely misunderstanding the concept of booking a cab?? I said perhaps she should cancel my booking and my friend could just call a cab when they landed, and she hung up on me. What great service - I called them a week in advance and reserved a cab from my home to O'Hare for 6:30am. On that early morning, it was raining pretty hard and I was a bit nervous and thinking that the cab would be late but at exactly, 6:29am, the cab pulled into our driveway. The flat rate from Evanston to O'Hare is $29 and $2 surcharge for the toll and my driver got me there safely and soundly. Great service and I will definitely be using them again. read more

NEVER USE THIS COMPANY!!!!! ZERO STARS! We needed to go to the airport from Evanston. Driver picked us up, drove like a drunk driver SWERVING all over the road. He also kept the heat up in the car so it was like a sauna. He stopped to get gas - we were trying to make a flight!!!! AND he LEFT the CAR RUNNING while he was filling the tank!! This is driving 101...never leave the car on. We get to the airport and he REFUSES to accept a credit card & started SCREAMING at us that it was his fault he will be out money. He said it was the end of the year & he won't get paid. He refused to get our luggage out of the trunk until we paid him in cash. I had to go to the ATM inside the airport to get $ while my husband waited in the car so he wouldn't drive away. This driver was HORRIBLE and the company was not helpful when I called. They gave me a phone number to call... no one picks up when I call. I like using local services, but will NEVER use their service again!!!! Do yourself a favor, use Uber instead. read more

The last three times I have used Norshore I have been extremely dissatisfied. The worst scenario was when the driver dropped me off in the middle of town (nowhere near my destination) and said he couldn't take me any farther because he had an appointment elsewhere. I was very clear when getting into the cab concerning where I needed to go. So I ended up waiting 45 minutes for another taxi. Late for an important presentation because of that. The other two times have been more or less the same scenario. First I thought it was a fluke, but then it happened again: I called Norshore to get out to O'Hare. On the phone they quoted a flat fee of $35 for one passenger. Both times I was quoted $35 and both times I was charged $55. The last time (about two days ago) the driver took an extremely circuitous route and took forever to get me to the airport. When I took a different taxi company to get home, it was $30 and almost half the time. I'm just tired of getting taken for a ride by Norshore. I would not recommend them to anyone read more

First off, 303 Taxi has reportedly bought out or merged with Norshore, so whoever takes a 303 Taxi MAY get a Norshore Taxi. I have had to take a lot of taxis lately, due to a situation beyond my control. Most of the time, I will tip pretty good, as I was a cabdriver myself in my younger years. However, two recent incidents come to mind that have caused me not to call Norshore any longer, and to switch to American Taxi Dispatch instead: 1) On a recent trip from a local hospital with my wife, a van taxi arrived, and when I got in the back seat, there were two crushed beer cans on the floor. (It should be noted that its illegal to drink in a taxi, as there is no barrier between the driver and the passengers like a limo). The driver was also hitting the brakes hard at several stop signs, causing my wife (who is eight and a half months pregnant) to be flung forward. 2) Yesterday, while taking my wife back to the hospital for medical tests, the driver ran the trip at a higher meter rate (Rate 2, used when going beyond the next adjacent town, instead of Rate 1, used for when in the same town or next adjacent town over), causing me to pay more out of pocket. When called on the fact this person had ran the meter at a higher rate than he should have, he became rude, telling me that he doesn't set the cab rates. I have read all of the negative reviews on here; if you have such a situation, call the City of Evanston at 847-328-2100; file complaints on these cabdrivers. Let the City of Evanston know what these people are doing. read more

Booked a cab to O'Hare from Evanston. The driver was erratic and unsafe AND tried to charge me $51 for the ride. When I questioned the flat rate, he said to change it to $40, I knew $35 was the amount quoted on the website. I paid it - because I wanted to get out of his cab and get my belongings so I could catch my flight. Not only this but he dropped me at the wrong terminal, I wouldn't book through this company again. read more

Pre booked a cab from O Hare airport to collect us as my daughter was ill - I called to see where they were & they said that they had given our cab to someone else as they were out before us! They said the At another cab could be dispatched right away but it would be 30 mins! Needless to say we didnt take them up on it. Today my husband ordered a cab in their app to go to the airport. I always use Norshore whenever I want to get anywhere. I think the service is pretty good - from those on the phone to the drivers. I believe that their flat rate to O'Hare is cheaper than those of American Taxi and 303 Taxi (from to and from Evanston at least) and what's not to love about that? read more

This is not a hard job. Pick me up and take me to the designation on time. I needed a taxi to ohare so I called norshore. They took the reservation but never showed up. I called and was told that a satellite confirmed the driver was only minutes away. That must be the same satellite looking for the Malaysian air plane. Then I got a call from the driver saying he was nearby and identified a locale in Glenview; I live in east wilmette. I drove to ohare. If you could not have driven yourself, the reason you call a cab, don't call norshore. Call uber or 303 Norshore called me and said " a letter will go in the drivers file; oh my. The lesson here is, request the cab to be at your house an hour before and łet them chill. Or, if you've been out drinking , eating tacos and beans, have a stomach flu and are going to erupt from every orifice then call norshore and they will be late; then get in and open the gates from hell. They never showed up!! I had booked a taxi the night before. That morning I called to confirm. They said they would be there on time (7:15) at 7:20 I called and they said 1 minute away. At 7:25 I called an they said he's pulling in. At 7:30 they assured me he is on the way. I called for another taxi that showed up in 10 minutes and Northshore still wasn't there. I took a Norshore Cab to O'Hare International airport (ORD) from Evanston (flat rate: $35). My driver was nice enough at first, but I had to ask him to turn around because I had forgotten my phone at home, and I'm fairly sure that he drove extra slowly and took a less efficient route thereafter, since he was suddenly charging me on the meter, rather than the flat rate. He also became really rude afterwards, and kept asking me how much I was going to pay him, even after I repeatedly reassured him that I'd pay the full meter fare. read more

Norshore is the reason Uber thrives today. The drivers are some of the rudest people I've ever met, the vehicles are smelly/dirty, the drivers barely know how to drive, and every single time I've used a card to pay they complain. I have been cursed at for trying to use a card, claiming that I am "f*****g robbing" the guy. I have used Norshore probably 50 times or so because of how close it is to my work, and have never once had a positive experience. I hope this business fails. read more

Very disappointed with Norshore cab service. This is the second time they screwed up picking up my mother (who is in her 80s) at the airport. Last time she was stranded very late at night in cold weather. This time, she wanted to give NorShore another chance. She reserved a cab well before her flight from CA to Chicago and even let them know it was delayed. Called when she landed. Was told cab was on way in 10-15 mins. 30 mins later told driver picked up wrong person. Now it's been an additional hour and still no cab. Dispatcher completely unhelpful and overwhelmed. You have one job: Provide cabs to people who order them. When they order them and where they ask to be picked up. Taxi companies want to know why Uber & Lyft are killing their business? This. Is. I used to always use this company and used them today, coincidently, but no more. A little later I was crossing the street as one of their cabs was turning right (in a residential neighborhood). I had plenty of time to cross as he was down the road a bit but apparently he didn't think so. He guns it and not only that but then swerves to the left side of the street narrowly missing me by an inch! It's not even a one way! I'm never using this company again. I've used Norshore 3 times but never again. The first time was excellent. The second time the driver had no idea how to get to O'Hare from Evanston (seriously, 4am and I had to give the guy directions to O'Hare!).
