This was a nice welcome center with two lovely employees. They had lots of information, pamphlets and even a little cutout where you could take a photo. Restrooms are outside. They had a giant butterfly and giant owl on display but when I asked about the owl, it was not really related to the area or any activities that staff could communicate. They basically just said that it looks nice and the lady who made the large butterfly made that also, so they put it up. I thought that was a little strange as North Carolina has barred owls but not the specific species that the giant decoration is. It does make for a nice piece to look at though. They did have printed information for the activity that I was specifically looking for and everything was well organized. This location is definitely worth a stop. read more

We used the North Carolina Welcome Center on our way to Asheville, NC. We were there during normal business hours which means it was staffed by a very professional, experienced and knowledgeable person. The man staffing the center was very personable and fun to chat with. This was one of the nicest state Welcome Centers I've visited and far exceeds the ones in my home state of Ohio. North Carolina should be proud of this welcome center and should appreciate the professionalism of their staff. read more

Nice break coming over the Tn-NC border. Nice walking area. There are picnic benches, water spouts but not for drinking. Beautiful flower areas, mountain views, lower level for large RVs, trucks and cars on upper level of parking. There's welcome info/center and restrooms but lack of info for those who have ADA reasons not to wear masks. So thats not welcoming. Other reststops have closed on my route due to construction & less dine-in at fastfood stops so this makes it more challenging to drive with less options for a pit stop unless u go to a gas station. read more

Read the reviews on this place & had to check it out. Most truck stops near by have really poor reviews. So, a rest area made more sense to stay at for the short time needed. Have to admit, it's beautiful here. Scenic mountains & low hanging clouds... It is raining today; lightly..., The birds are numerous, many varieties. Very nice landscaping & charcoal grills as well. The rest room was very clean, snack area, separate from main building... Two very nice walkways to the main building. For the most part, the parking is not on too much of an incline. Slanted, well spread out parking. Enough room for possibly 30 large truck & trailer combinations.. The mountain views are tremendous....it's about 3300 ft above sea level here.... Great place to do your 10 hour or 30 minute breaks. The view alone will give you piece of mind & a well deserved brain rest. read more
