To the Emergency Room Team at Baylor Scott & White in McKinney, Texas…read more It was 9 pm on the evening of June 8, 2026. My son's head had been bleeding for two hours. It was a small cut. 15 years as parents and we'd never had the need for an emergency room. 5 years in Texas, we were unfamiliar with the reputation of the area's emergency healthcare services. Equidistant ER options at Cook Children's, Texas Health, and Baylor Scott & White; wanting the best care for our son and experiencing the anxiety of knowing we didn't have insurance to cover the cost. We walked into the Emergency Room at Baylor Scott & White (BS&W). The waiting area was full, though not cramped or overflowing, everyone in a seat and many more available. We waited less than five minutes at the registration desk. The team of nurses managing the intake process was amazing. We just needed to know if the cut required stitches or if we could manage it at home. They asked Dr. Danny Zheng for a quick assessment, and he recommended one staple stitch. A very fast procedure, he met us in a small room off to the side of the waiting area, cleaned the wound stitched it and explained the steps for aftercare. A few minutes later an attendant wheeling a computer on a cart came to us, she completed the registration and paperwork, and we were done. We were in and out in less than an hour. It has been a month since our visit and the night still plays in my head repeatedly. I have told the story to many, and now I share my impressions with you. I am trying to find the right words to convey the kindness of the ER nurses and Dr. Zheng. How considerate they were to have Dr. Zheng look at the injury before entering us into the system. Learning we didn't have insurance, they informed us that the BS&W ER operates as a non-profit organization, and without judgement told us of the many financial resources available to us. These may seem like standard care and processes to many, but to us it was so much more. At the Emergency Room of Baylor Scott & White in McKinney, TX we experienced a team of medical professionals who put human care first, who worked in an open space with loving energy; who made us feel heard, welcomed and cared for us despite our financial circumstance; a team who worked together to keep the ER running smoothly, creating a space of comfort and peace for those walking in who are experiencing moments of so much distress. I thank you for your presence, your energy, your commitment, your care and attention to our family. May we never again experience another emergency requiring an ER visit; but if we do, I will choose and trust the medical professionals at Baylor Scott & White in McKinney without hesitation.

Both physicians (specifically Dr. Kyle Cash) and nurses lack the due diligence, preparation, knowledge, timeliness, expertise, professionalism, compassion, and care. I will go as far to say even straight up offensive. You can forget about asking for any sort of pain mgmt, they will treat you like a junkie, ignore your requests, give whatever they want/when and how much, despite what you know works based on history and records. They will completely disregard any feedback or offer follow up solutions. It's so embarrassing. There is nothing comforting about this department. When you are the most vulnerable and feel your worst, you shouldn't feel unsafe, unheard, or unsupported in an ED. I used to speak so highly of this facility and have the upmost respect for the medical community given that I gave birth to both of my children in the Lewisville branch, essentially lived at Children's after my son battled cancer for 7 years (survivor.), then I too had a major medical issue at this hospital. All this to say, I've been around for a long time. Medical City McKinney has gone downhill. It's scary. It honestly wouldn't surprise me if they're full of lawsuits. Their escalation process is a joke, it's built to protect THIER pockets, and not their patients. You've been warned, you put yourself or a loved one at risk by coming here. They are bullies, and are very much checked out. If you do find yourself here, make sure you protect yourself and record/document all your interactions because they WILL lie. I wouldn't recommend this ED to ANYONE. I hope they get externally audited one day and get a much needed clean house. Huge. reputational risk.

If you haven't spent much time with doctors, or had surgery yourself or long stays at a hospital (as a patient or visiting someone), it can be overwhelming. My first real experience with Medical City McKinney was several years ago, when I spent weeks there with my elderly father. He went from the ER to PCU, then home with hospice, and passed away from heart failure. It was a complicated situation, but looking back, I'm deeply grateful for the compassionate care he received at Medical City McKinney. I met the CEO in the elevator who actually cared and personally escalated my case (he didn't have to do that). Four years later, returned for surgery. The experience was smooth from start to finish, from pre-op, to post-op, to getting discharged and heading out the door, every single patient care person I met was kind, professional, and genuinely seemed to enjoy what they do. Bonus! Honestly, I'm not sure what to think about the negative reviews. Definitely take into account each experience is based on specific situations, and whether you are a patient, caretaker or visitor. I recommend you make a decision based on your specific situation. Good Luck.

Walked into the facility with my neighbor, who had brought me in. They took me back fairly quick (about 10 minutes) Nurse hooked me up to take my BP and O2 stats. BP was very high (224/110ish) O2 levels up and down between 82-93. Daughter had arrived about 10-15 minutes later and came back to the ER room. Nurse 1 comes back with EKG machine and declares the machine does not work and needs to get another machine. 45 minutes (could have been longer) another machine was tried for an EKG by same nurse and declared that machine did not work either. Rolls that one out. The nurse tried to draw blood and was unsuccessful. Another nurse comes back in to try to draw blood and after the four attempts and multiple bruises was finally successful. (approximate wait was another 30-60 minutes). Only blood was drawn at this time. I now have 5 puncture marks where they were digging for a vein and bruising was already seen. Blood was drawn from the tube that was put in the arm to administer medication and future blood draws. A new Ekg machine wheeled in by a new tech. He runs the EKG and there is no paper in the machine. He does not know how to load the machine and has to ask for assistance. At this point I am very stressed with all the malfunctioning equipment and lack of experienced staff. PA comes in the room after about an hour to 2 hours later (no meds administered for BP yet) PA asks me questions but offers nothing medically (my expectations for the PA were that I would know what was causing the spike in BP or at least be given medication to bring down the BP but that did not happen.) PA leaves O2 stats are still fluctuating. I asked for a manual BP check because I have numerous issues with the automated BP machines in the past. I was told by Nurse 1 that she did not know where a manual cuff was. Respiratory therapy was administered around 8 or 9 (not totally clear on the time) Administered a breathing treatment. Nurse 1 comes in and I again asked for a manual BP check. She said she was really busy (I must add that I witnessed, as did my daughter, Nurse 1 and the PA having a race with the wheel chair in the hallway, they were playing around and laughing prior to me asking for a cuff. Thoughts were they had time for THAT but not time for the patient. ER's are very stressful for patients and staff. I am all about laughing and relief from the stress but as a patient being ignored, the optics were not great. Sat in the ER about another 3 hours before anyone even checked on me. I had gotten up about 3-5 times to use the restroom during that time. No BP meds administered yet. It is midnight and finally a physician comes in and says "I see the BP medication is not working" to which my daughter and I both announce 'NONE were administered". She says we are going to have to admit you because I cannot let you leave with your BP this high. No beds were available. It's midnight and it is obvious that no one in a bed was going to check out at that time so I waited. Meanwhile I asked again for a manual BP check. Physician leaves, my daughter goes to my house to pack a bag. And about 15 minutes after the physician leaves they bring in BP meds. Let's be clear I was admitted at 6:00pm and no meds until midnight. A paramedic came in to take a manual BP but struggled with the cuff. He had to get another one stating the other one did not work. He fumbled with it and kept trying to see if he could read it, looked up at the monitor and stated it's the same as what is up there. I am no expert, but it appeared he did not know how to manually take my pressure. I truly cannot prove that but given everything that had happened up to that point, coupled with all the malfunctioning equipment, my confidence was waning. Meds were not administered for my BP until after midnight. Not enough room to continue the story but I will end with I Left against Medical advice after a number of other things happened. Checked into Medical Center Dallas Heart and Vascular and received EXCELLENT care. Within 10 minutes there I had EKG, Blood work with only one try, Chest x-ray, and medication to lower my BP AND the doctor had come in!! That is how it should be. Medical City Mckinney should be shut down. Notifying, CEO MC Mckinney and Dallas AND Medicare AND Robert Kennedy. Unacceptable.

They are equipped for kids especially (according to the doctor) such a waste of time and money! 1st - went in for the flu. Cost me $800 when I was only there about 30 min. The doctor listened to my chest and wrote a prescription. Not even a flu test. 2nd - just took my toddler in for croup since nothing is open Christmas night. Staff went between nice and attitude, couldn't figure it out. Guess I disturbed their slow night. Their instruments didn't seem I work well. Tried to take her temperature for a few minutes, which wasn't fun. It was obviously croup. The doctor said they didn't have the steroid serum needed since they are not equipped for kids well. So they wanted to transfer her via ambulance to another facility since while checked in she was their responsibility. Ridiculous! So, I checked her out and drove her to children's. They were about to do a breathing tube, which was unnecessary for croup. The doctor at Children's said a breathing thing wasn't needed since it wasn't strider. So basically I will get a horrible bill for getting nothing done at this place. Children's staff was laughing that they wanted to ambulance her over. Ugh! The facility is average. The staff isn't very friendly. And you will get ripped off. Just avoid at all costs, especially if you have kids!

Despite multiple requests over three days, the staff did not provide her with an incentive spirometer--a simple, standard device widely recommended for pneumonia patients. It encourages slow, deep breathing to help fully inflate the lungs, loosen and clear mucus, prevent further collapse of air sacs, and support faster recovery. Medical sources (including guidelines from places like MedlinePlus, Cleveland Clinic, and respiratory therapy references) commonly advise its use in hospital settings for lung illnesses like pneumonia, particularly to aid breathing and reduce risks in elderly or bedbound patients. I had to escalate the matter to the nurse manager before one was finally provided. Compounding the issue, her assigned nurse was dismissive and somewhat rude during interactions. I recognize that hospitals face high demands, but for an elderly patient with bacterial pneumonia, basic tools like this--along with attentive, respectful care--should be standard and not require persistent family advocacy. This experience fell short of what I'd expect for vulnerable patients. If you're weighing options for yourself or a loved one needing care (especially respiratory issues), I strongly suggest considering other facilities based on what we went through. Prioritizing places with stronger emphasis on timely basics and compassionate nursing can make a real difference. Wishing your loved ones better experiences wherever care is needed.
