If I had looked further into this doctor and the San Luis podiatry practice in Templeton and San Luis Obispo I would have found that the doctor has been reported for malpractice before and recently received an official reprimand for his poor medical care. This is the text on the Medical Board of California (MBC) website: "IT IS HEREBY ORDERED THAT Respondent Christopher M. Byrne, D.P.M. shall be and is hereby Publicly Reprimanded pursuant to California Business and Professions Code sections 2222 and 2227, subdivision (a)(4). This Public Reprimand, which is issued in connection with Accusation No. 500-2021-001178, is as follows: 1. In March 2020, the Respondent diagnosed Patient 1 with gout, prescribed Allopurinol and continued to treat the patient with Allopurinol after the patient's bloodwork was negative for gout. Respondent then treated Patient 1 on March 4, 2020, April 23, 2020, and May 27, 2020, with steroid injections into Patient 1's first metatarsophalangeal joint of his right foot, as more fully described in Accusation No. 500-2021-001178. PRESCRIBING PRACTICES COURSE Within 60 days of the effective date of this Decision and Order, Respondent shall enroll in a course in prescribing practices, at Respondent's expense, approved in advance by the Board or its designee. Respondent shall successfully complete the course within 6 months of the effective date of this Decision and Order. Respondent shall submit a certification of successful completion to the Board or its designee not later than 15 calendar days after successfully completing the course, or not later than 6 months after the effective date of this Decision and Order, whichever is later. A prescribing practices course taken after the acts that gave rise to the charges in the Accusation, but prior to the effective date ofthe Decision may, in the sole discretion of the Board or its designee, be accepted towards the fulfillment of this condition if the course would have been approved by the Board or its designee had the course been taken after the effective date of this Decision. Any failure to fully comply with this term and condition of the Decision and Order shall constitute unprofessional conduct and will subject Respondent's Doctor of Podiatric Medicine License to further disciplinary action." Really great experience overall. Dr. Abernathy is very caring and takes time to explain everything and answer all of my questions. The office staff, Shelli and Georgianna, are so kind and helpful. I would recommend this office and Dr. Abernathy to anyone in need of foot or ankle care.

He…read moretook me out of work, his office manager made a clerical error and made my Dr note to be out of work til May 15, ( it was March 5th when she wrote it) I was under the assumption he was gonna do the surgery, and his office manager also had me fill out my disability forms in the office that day. Then, come to find out he refused to sign my disability forms, because he wanted me to quit smoking for 2 months before he'd even make the surgery date. I asked him to make a surgery date for 2 months away but he refused to do that cuz he said I may not show up!???? I don't believe he had my best interest at heart. He says it's a proven fact that smoking prevents healthy recoveries from surgery. Well, I just had surgery on my shoulder 3 weeks ago. I've been told that my recovery so far is absolutely awesome. My scar is already hard to see because I heal VERY WELL no matter what is needing to be healed in my body. And- I'm still smoking! And my surgeon NEVER told me I should or HAD to quit. Any way bottom line, he's clearly has control issues and for a Dr. to take someone out of work and then DENY them disability because of their own opinion, how can they be trusted? Not to mention that pic doesn't even look remotely like him. (Not the same ethnicity.)
