Within minutes, they arrived at my car to bring her in for what was a thorough exam, I spoke with Dr. Ellis who discovered the issue, and resolved it in one visit. This was the case for the last 3 years. Unfortunately, on our last visit, and despite giving our dog the calming medication ahead of time, they refused to examine her despite her very calm demeanor. They said they would only examine her if she was wearing a muzzle, which was not communicated when we made our appointment, nor was this ever a requirement before. They would not assist in placing the muzzle on our dog, making me do it. Of course, our dog was not used to muzzles and resisted. When this happened they said we would have to take her to an ER hospital an hour away and refused to examine her. I understand concerns about a nervous dog biting someone but our dog was very calm and has never bitten anyone, ever. I would have thought a vet, especially one that has direct experience with specific dog, would be equipped to handle situations when a dog may become nervous. This veterinarian left us feeling helpless while we were very concerned about our dog who was in physical pain that we did not yet understand. He was stand-offish from the beginning and wouldn't try to work with us. I asked him about possibly opting for more sedation but he refused. His overall attitude was negative, unprofessional, and one I don't ever want to be around again. My guess is he didn't have confidence he could diagnose our dog's issue and was avoiding it altogether. We took our dog to Pittsfield Veterinarian Hospital and they were amazing. They had the trained staff capable of examining a nervous dog. Our dog did get a little nervous but never needed a muzzle. They clearly know how to handle pets of all types of demeanors and were knowledgeable about potential root causes. They diagnosed our dog within 20min. We understood why she was in pain and left there with a sound treatment plan. Maybe South St is a decent place for pets who don't get nervous but I'm dumbfounded at how experienced vets are so poorly equipped to handle a sedated dog who has a history of getting nervous, and mind you has NEVER bitten anyone! I highly recommend NOT going to South St. if you need anything more than a routine checkup and don't want to experience vets with poor attitudes with no adaptability to deal with minor challenges.

tl;dr - They were…read morefrequently telling me inconsistent things, and when they made mistakes, they didn't apologize, let alone acknowledge those mistakes - they were assholes. ** I'm new to the area and called about boarding my small dog while I headed to a silent meditation course. The first reception person I spoke to (whose name I didn't get) was nice. She told me the dates I needed would work, and that all I had to do was drop off a fecal sample. I did that the next morning, to a reception person called Elizabeth. She told me the cost was $30, which had not been mentioned before. It wasn't cool that this (seemingly way too high) fee had not been mentioned, particularly when paying it doesn't confirm booking, and they were not offering a record of these test results. But I needed a place for my pup to stay (and I'd already collected the shit and driven it over), so I paid it. I also sent over vaccination records. Elizabeth left a voicemail to say the fecal test was negative, which was good, but that my dog's Bordetella record was missing. I had thought it was included, but I misremembered what it was called (my dog has a pet passport from Europe which is in Italian). Elizabeth had a habit of replying with the word 'Correct' in this kind of authoritative way, even when the thing in question was not. She did this on our call, and I overheard it in the office when she was speaking to another customer. So I called around a bunch to try and confirm a Bordetella shot, and eventually found a nice vet who could do it. I called Pioneer Valley back to ask if I could confirm the dates for boarding now that the Bordetella shot was scheduled. This time I got Linda, who at least wasn't rude, but the call took forever. She told me Bordetella was there, but distemper was missing. Getting this information took something like 25 minutes. I mentioned a couple times that Elizabeth had told me the opposite the day before, explicitly confirming distemper was there. I knew my dog had had the distemper shot previously, so I confirmed with Linda that they offered it at their facility, and that he could get it and still board there assuming he had had the shot previously (so therefore did not need the booster). Linda told me this was fine. I found the record quickly and sent it over, and someone named Alyssa called back. Alyssa was a dick. She was rude as hell as she told me the vaccine record I had provided wouldn't work (there is definitely a nice, professional way to do this). She made me re-confirm the boarding dates I had requested for something like the 5th time, only to once again tell me they couldn't take him. I told her Linda had confirmed for me that they could do distemper maybe 15 minutes before. Alyssa said they couldn't get him in for this because "they were booked until August, and he would need a full checkup BY LAW." Emphasis hers. There was no apology for their terrible internal communication, and their even worse treatment of me as a customer, and as a human being. I want my $30 back. Don't go to a place like this where they're incompetent and they treat people poorly. There are other super nice, knowledgable vets (Shelburne Falls Vet Hospital is one!) minutes away.

A litter of eleven came one day to the said breeder and all the puppies found happy and loving homes, or so was the hope. The largest of these little bundles of joy, standing tall above his litter mates was a leggy, confident young male named Stormageddon. With no big dog experience, a well intentioned airline pilot purchased the young buck and off they went only to find out that special dogs need special training and attention. In the midst of this, there was a court battle a brewing between Stormageddons parents owners. Stormageddons father Johnny, a multiple winner of championships and number seven Rhodesian in the country and Athena, his mother. Athena's keeper's were not of the moral fabrics that should keep fish, let alone championship Ridgebacks but I digress. After a few new attempts at ownerships of this stalwart young lad, a good fit just was not on the radar, yet the court battle raged on for ultimate ownership of Storm ---- un-benonced to his young eyes, his forever home -- a place of safety and stability was now so near. You see young Billy, there is justice in the world. And with the tireless efforts of a few amazing women, the ownership passed to a man from NYC with a older alpha female, a Rhodesian Putt bull mix who adopted young Stormageddon as if he were her own. Now living in a beautiful home in Forest Hills as one big happy family, each with their own room, (but they rather both sleep in mine, on my bed) I shout out from the highest mountain tops --- words of praise and thanks to all of the good ones, the ones who put my loving boys needs first as a living, breathing animal with feelings and emotions and not just an object.
