There's a lot of chairs and tables by windows so you can get some natural sunlight while you read or work. The second floor has a lot of maps and information about Portsmouth which is nice if you're unfamiliar with the area. The staff is very friendly and help. I'd definitely like to visit again sometime!

The leadership makes extra efforts to welcome the community. The ripple effect of great leadership is evident with the entire staff. Today a wonderful librarian Sat offered me organic gummies and my favorite compact shopping bag. I wished I had took better note of her name. To read on the outsude covered deck looking for herons and listening to the river is heaven for me. Thank you all for being one of my favorite respite places.

We met a man who was working (or was he just hanging out? not sure) there and was nice enough to give us a special tour of the place! He was so knowledgeable about the history of Portsmouth and was so passionate about the town. I saw some really neat artifacts here, including whale vertebrae...which totally made me squeal in excitement. Just take a visit to the Portsmouth Athenaeum and strike up a conversation. Couple flights of stairs or an elevator and you find yourself in the middle of a pretty neat research library. We went to the North End History exhibit and it was super-informative and very interesting. Lots of neat old photos and details about parts of Portsmouth we drive by on a regular basis without realizing their historical significance. Ask for James, ask a few questions, and sit back and laugh as he takes the history of the area and wraps it up in funny and memorable stories and anecdotes. Just a note - finish your food and coffee before visiting. There are some incredibly old books in this place and you don't want to spill!

She has helped me with copy and print services, answered my questions and found my keys and remembered who I was (I had only been there a few times) so when I stepped out of the elevator she waved me down to return them. I met a few of the staff while there, they were pleasant and helpful. I discovered they have been doing renovations and have moved furniture, including the circulation desk. It looks great and appears more user friendly. The renovation included the addition of a small workspace. It's not the greatest, but it's certainly adequate to be able to do work there. My experience was great. The staff was very pleasant and helpful and it was nice to be able to go to the library in my hometown. I also appreciated that I didn't have to pay for parking like I do in NBPT. As I have used many local libraries Amesbury doesn't hold up. I recommend Amesbury look to build a new library. Check out Salisbury, Merrimac and Newburyport libraries, they are amazing. Please Amesbury- consider building a modern library.

I usually use their website and request the books to be put on hold that I want. They can send you an email or text when the book arrives which is very convenient! I definitely recommend checking out their museum passes also. You can get into quite a few different local museums for half off prices. A great deal!

Truly I was extremely upset about some legal papers that I was needing to have copied, and they made my copies themselves with heats of gold!! When I've taken my young granddaughters they have treated us as if we were family. My granddaughters become excited when I simply offer to drive them there.
