James J. Braddock North Hudson County Park 9003 Bergenline Ave. North Bergen, NJ 07047 This 167-acre honors James J. Braddock, a heavyweight boxing champion of the world who was raised in North Bergen. The trail surrounding Woodcliff Lake may not be the largest, but it is thriving with life. Several turtles and freshwater fish swim there. Feel free to walk, jog, or bring your domestic pet on the pathway. Bicycles, roller skating, and e-bikes are not allowed on the paths. If you prefer an alternative route, there is a nature trail that parallels with the lake. It will definitely give you the feel of being in a wilderness. Fishing is permitted in the lake, but a valid NJ freshwater fishing license is required. Visitors may rent a paddle boat or kayak if they wish to sail the lake. Multiple benches are stationed throughout the park. Feel free to grab any available seat. Everyone is also welcome to bring their own lounge chair or blanket if they prefer to have a seat on the grass. If you get hungry, Playa Bowls and Rumba's Cafe are conveniently located near the lake. They are open all year round and have both indoor and outdoor seating. A fairly large playground is on site for younger children. They may play on the jungle gym, swing set, or dual zip line. There is also a water park next to the playground. It is not an actual pool, but a highly advanced splash pad with water arches and animated sprayers. This will come in handy during the warmer seasons. There are a couple parking lots in the park, but a majority of the visitors park on the street. As parking space seems limited, I would highly recommend using public transportation to commute to the park. THE GOOD ---------------- + HUGGGGGE, well-maintained park with lots of space. Probably one of the biggest local, neighborhood county parks in NJ. + Multiple sections to the park include large kids' playground, tennis courts, basketball courts, volleyball courts, handball courts, baseball fields, a soccer field, track and field athletic field, dog park and a BIGGGG lake in the middle. + The kids' playground is one of the biggest I've seen in Northern N.J. rivaling that of Van Saun's playground in Paramus. There are lots of activities for kids in there. + There's a road that goes through the heart of the park, so, YES you can drive through the park. THE NOT SO GOOD ---------------------------- - Parking inside of the park can be a challenge on really nice days, but there are also spaces outside of the park by the surrounding houses too. read more

This is a wonderful park. It is clean and has many many things to do. There is a dog park, many seating areas, bocce courts!!!, other sports fields, fountains. The street fair is weekly during summer. Food aplenty nearby. Plenty of parking. Just a nice place to take a stroll for as long or little as you like. read more

Beautiful park in north Hudson! This park is a great place to spend weekends with family or if you just want to take a nice stroll to get those steps in. There's a big pond with geese and turtles that makes the whole place feel relaxing, and some people actually fish here too. Lots of people come here to jog, have picnics by the water, or use one of the workout stations. The kids' playground is new, clean, and huge- it was recently renovated. There's also plenty of parking and lots of spots to sit and chill. The picnic area is nice too. There are also Port-a-Potties by the lake, which are pretty gross, but the real bathrooms are by the exercise stations south of the park.. Despite that, I highly recommend this park if you're in the North Bergen area. read more

Lovely park; free, adequate parking, clean, well-maintained, walkable, and safe. There are some shops and food options along Bergenline Avenue. There was also a mini flea market along that street during the Saturday afternoon I visited. The large pond in the middle of the park offers some nice views. The path around the pond is excellent for walking/jogging. It was safe during my daytime visit and I did notice some police presence there, which is reassuring. read more

I love this park in ways that could only be described as taking me to another place. It's so beautiful here and the views are stunning. It has just about everything you could ever want in a park. I thoroughly enjoy walking around the paved trail that encompasses the lake. Everyone here is happy and friendly and just enjoying themselves walking, running, fishing, people watching, etc. There is plenty to do here and if you are adventurous there are many hiking trails to entertain you as well. I love this park so much specially since I've been coming here for a very long time ever since I was a little girl. There's so much to do from kids playground, basketball courts, tennis, Soccer and even volleyball courts. My favorite thing about this park is walking or running around the lake and looking at the turtles. You will catch people fishing around the lake as well. read more

The playground and waterpark is very open with just a little bit of shady spots.. Be careful if you park on the street.. I just follow everybody parking on the street.. and this sign kinda far from my car, so I didn't saw.. then when I'm about to go home I saw the ticket! Not my lucky day!! read more

This park is awesome! Awesome dog run! With benches so you can chill while fido runs his butt off. Awesome man made lake with track and view of the city! Awesome picnic area! Awesome cute ducks with ducklings in spring, turtles, and fish in the lake. Awesome parking by the dog run and street parking along the road! This park is the perfect oasis of nature in an urban area. Big enough so you feel like you have gotten out of the city, but not so big that it is a major trek to get to a relaxing spot and chill. read more

Parking is limited ***note: you cant park outside of the parking lot!*** with so many people here I thought that was pretty lame so hence my 3 stars. A ranger (?) is there giving tickets. I watched this man eat lunch in the back of his truck by himself so the odds of him being there daily are pretty high. Just wait a bit and someone is bound to leave. Trails are longer or shorter - you choose. We took our 4.5 month old and enjoyed a couple of the quick views that are right off of the main path and all .1, .3 miles away so we walked a bit, made it to a destination, snapped photos and turned back. Some trails are longer and some are obviously not a part of the park's suggested trails. Those areas have warning signs. Lots of families, couples and groups of friends. It was really not what I expected but even better! read more

Have you seen the movie Cinderella Man? James J. Braddock North Hudson Park was named after the heavyweight boxing champion. While there isn't a boxing ring in the park, there are a number of athletic fields in the park for all different types of sports. You can play football, basketball, volleyball, tennis, and even bocce and handball (old school). There's also an exercise course. For the kids, there's a children's area and little league field. The park also has Woodcliff Lake, arboretum, and nature trails. North Bergen also gives you great views of Manhattan because it's part of the Palisades. What I like about this park is that really focuses on nature and wildlife preservation. Braddock is a great place to talk a walk (maybe with your pouch) and have a picnic. It's a massive park, so there are many things you can do here. If you have a free day, I recommend checking it out. read more

I absolutely love this park! First thing you need to know... It's huge... Plenty of space to run and walk your dogs. The pond is great for scenery . Nice for families (picnics , playing sports etc) There are about 5 softball fields throughout the whole park. Great for those involved with leagues. read more

Once upon a time it was called "Hudson County Park ". I lived nearby and could actually go there and have the park all to myself, especially after a snow. Those are some of my happiest memories. The last time I went there, I cried to see what it has become. I will never go there again. It exists now only in my memory. read more

This is a nice quaint little park that's located in North Bergen, NJ. My boo and I started off our tour of North Bergen and little Latin America right here. We took the 159 bus from the Port Authority Bus Terminal and got off at the 78th St stop. The whole strip of Bergenline has plenty of shopping and Latin food, so it was a good idea to take a nice romantic stroll around the lake to work up an appetite. The weather was nice and sunny, and there were plenty of ducks and geese in the water. We saw a few different individuals fishing in the lake here. The parks dept stocks the lake with trout and you can fish here too - just make sure you have the proper licenses and stamps. read more

Hudson County Park, as I refer to it... (being from North Bergen, and growing up up town.) Is a place that I drive through daily on my ride to work. It is truly a beautiful park, and is right off of Boulevard East, Park Avenue, and Bergenline Avenue that makes it very easy for people to enjoy. In the last few years there has been A LOT of excellent improvements. The entire children's playground area has been redone, and is reminiscent of the New York City Skyline, which is nearby, and the spray park is an excellent way for the youngster to cool off. I just recommend getting there early as, since it's free it will become crowded. The lake is also beautiful! I've recently been trying to find time to walk around it quickly during my lunch hour. Areas near the lake have also been redone. There are also various sporting arenas used by North Bergen in the park, football stadium, soccer fields, and baseball fields. There are also Tennis Courts, hand ball courts, and many places to run. I highly recommend checking out this park if you haven't done so. It has improved a great deal especially recently. read more

This park is beautiful! For the North Bergen area who lack grass and trees this place is a gem. It is huge. They have a picnic area, a dog run, basketball, tennis and handball courts, a volleyball area, and plenty of wide open grass areas to lay around or just sit and relax and enjoy the day. Can do better. I'm glad to see renovations taking place around the pond for improvements. But it's as if only one side of the park is being taken care of while the other side is drying up. Not sure if it's in the plans, the dog park they have needs some serious remodeling. Space is nice, just very run down. I understand that the roads going through the park are needed for traffic control, but hopefully something can change it to remove them and remake this park into a true nature park. read more

It's a great park that has everything: children's playground, tennis courts, baseball field, picnic area, outdoor gym and even a lake in the middle. It's keep nice and clean during the warm weather but not so great during winter when it is left alone without much maintenance. I do jogging, play tennis and use the outdoor gym for warm ups. read more

Nice park but.... Once you get a bit deeper into it it's not so nice. When I first ventured to the park it seemed beautiful and perfect for a sunny day. After my niece and I found a bench we saw the trash all over the ground. People were playing loud music and the smoking and drinking. Seems like at night kids come here and party through the night and leave there trash everywhere. There is plenty of parking which is nice but other than that it's not even worth it... I love this park! There is a lovely walking track around the pond. Next to it is a professional rubber track & field track with a soccer field in the center. There is a dog park and tennis courts. I've walked through this huge park at all time of the day and night without a care. Additionally, it is just off boulevard east, which is a beautiful walk in and of itself since it is the cliff that overlooks the NYC skyline. There are loads of buses from the port authority, 128, 165, 166, 168. Get a seat on the passenger side of the bus and you'll have an amazing scenic tour once you exit the Lincoln Tunnel, trust me. Get off at any point above 79th street and you'll be spitting distance from the park. If you time it right, it shouldn't take more than a half hour door to door. Walk west through the park to reach the Latin American shopping district of Bergenline Avenue, it borders the park on the west side. For a nice restaurant near the park try, Trattoria la Sorrentina, Tapas de Espana, Rumba Cubana. Pick up some amazing authentic Italian sandwiches at Cuomo & Sons for some lovely picnic foods. Huge park for the area!!!! Nice walking trails and the fishing is ok. There are tons of people everywhere for a reason. Its nice to be there. But of course that takes away from the place. Redid the playground and it looks pretty cool. The tennis courts are great and there are people there to keep the piece from those surly rough tennis players. Boche ball courts are weird but cool. Massive football field for the local high school team. Have fun. read more

Temporary nature getaway in an urban resident environment. Great for ducks, yoga, walking, jogging, bat watching, sunset experience. Enjoyable slight hills for bike riding. Decent park for the kiddos. Prefer to come weekdays in the morning to avoid people traffic and enjoy more trees along with quiet peacefulness. read more
