I heard such good things about this practice but Dr Haslam treated me very rudely. I'm 72 and afraid of dentistry after some bad experiences in my youth. Dr Haslam talked to me as if I were a child and when I explained that I had some bad memories he said "I'm not forcing you to be here". My mental faculties are fine, in fact I continue to mentor graduate students and still contribute to professional journals. I made an appt. for a consultation, I have a large and complicated front upper loose bridge that I needed replaced, I was looking for a dentist that could take on this complicated job. I explained when I made the appt. I did not want to waste my time or insurance money with a Dentist that could not do the job I needed.(I had already been down that road a month before) Well when I got in the chair at the appt. Dr.Haslam tells me they need a comprehensive set of x-rays for my entire mouth and this bridge is going to cost tens of thousands of dollars and he will probably need to bring in a surgeon. so they take a couple of x rays and Dr.$$$$ Haslam tells me the same thing again. so I say lets do it! because I need a new bridge. on the way out they make me a 2hr.appt. for comprehensive xrays almost a month out. this bridge is almost falling out and includes 7 teeth. I dont think Dr.Haslam has the experience to take on such a complex job, and just wanted to scare me away. But thanks for wasting my time and insurance money. read more

Both Dr. Haslam and Dr. Swenson helped a refugee friend of mine who had an urgent dental need. Dr. Haslam filled a painful cavity on short notice, and Dr. Swenson extracted a molar that was too decayed to save. The staff was supportive, caring, and even brought in a translator to make sure my friend understood all that was happening. I really appreciate the excellent care the North Point Dental team provided. read more

The staff isn't helpful or friendly. Really unorganized in the front office. It's already scary enough going into the dentist for anything and while my teeth were getting cleaned She kept making rude compliments on if I ever flossed or brushed my teeth. The lady seemed very hyped up and antsy as well. I'm called around after being there for more then a year and there prices are a lot higher then almost everyone else in town. read more

Dr Mark Swensen is a terrific dentist and runs an excellent practice. He is smart, interested in his field, gives good advice, provided me with superb care about a very tricky dental issue. I am so glad to have found a dentist as competent as he is. I also think he is a good person. read more

I'm a pretty new patient for this clinic, but I do love it! My boyfriend and I both go here. I have had two fillings and one cleaning and all were very satisfactory. I see Dr. Svenson, who is very nice and funny. I'm a baby when it comes to dental work. After 3 years in braces coupled with pretty sensitive teeth I usually avoid the dentist like the plague. But I find Dr. Svenson to be a really concerned dentist with a lot of attention to detail, which makes me super happy since I always have images of that "oops" moment during a filling. It's nice to know that he doesn't just want to stuff some metal in your head and get his money. Oh, if you don't have insurance, this place might be way out of your price range. It is pretty spendy. But then again, I'd be pretty leery of a cheap dentist. read more

This is my favorite clinic and when you visit it you will know what you read now. Honestly, I've never seen a clinic like this in Austin Texas, Tampa, Florida, New York City, Dubai. Dr. Swensen is my favorite and his Entire staff. All are great. I recommend this clinic to all my friends in OSU. I moved to Portland and I changed my dentist twice and still suffering. read more

I chipped my tooth and was able to get an appointment the next day. It was my first visit and everything went pretty smoothly. I was in and out within 20 minutes and everyone was really friendly. I can't comment on price because this is my first time going to the dentist in the US in over a decade, but I didn't think it was that bad. read more

I've found the level of service provided by Dr. Swensen and the rest of the staff to be consistently outstanding. Dr. Swensen asks good questions and provides clear and concise explanations when it comes to discussing future options. This has helped me understand the risks and benefits much better than I've experienced elsewhere. When it comes to an actual procedure, I am kept informed as to what's going on and what to expect next. There are no surprises...and when it comes to dental work, that's a good thing! So far, I've gone through an extraction and am in the process of getting an implant completed. No complaints at all! I've found that the assistants to be engaging, personable and competent (Alicia and Vanessa). In addition, Lisa has taken over my teeth cleaning and has done an excellent work! Sandy has done an outstanding job of keeping me informed of costs that will have to be paid out of pocket. This has helped me to better plan and utilize my Flexible Spending Account (FSA). Gone are the days of using a crystal ball or gazing at chicken's intestines to understand projected dental costs... And the folks who've helped at the front desk or on the phone (Sarah, Kong (sp?), Casey (sp?) have been efficient, personable and very competent. From a planning standpoint, I get email reminders of appointments and have found Dr. Swensen's availability to be much improved over my last provider. I'm just sorry that it took me 20 years to finally give these folks a try! read more

I gave North Point one star, and I'll tell you why. I moved to Corvallis for grad school a couple of years ago, and I chose this dentist's office because it had the highest ratings and the best reviews. I will admit, when I first started going there, I loved it. Dr. Balkins and the hygenists made me feel at home, and they all seemed very polite and professional. Everyone in the office was friendly. Dr. Balkins filled a cavity for me about a year ago, and I thought he did a good job. He told me there were several demineralized spots in my x-rays that he wanted to keep an eye on. At my last cleaning, he took x-rays and said that four of my "watch spots" had gotten worse, and strongly recommended filling them. I was really puzzled how my teeth could have decayed so quickly in two years; my diet and oral hygiene habits hadn't changed, and I hadn't had any aches or discomfort in my teeth. He told me the fillings would cost 1,200-1,800 dollars, depending on whether I chose metal or resin. This sounded like an awful lot of money, so I decided to schedule an appointment with my old dentist while I was home for the holidays. My family dentist told me he couldn't see any cavties in the x-rays Dr. Balkins took, and took a second set of x-rays just to be sure. My x-rays hadn't changed at all since 2010. He confirmed that I did have some demineralized spots, but deminerlization is no reason to drill, and mine had not, in fact, gotten worse. My dentist and I were horrified that I was almost charged over a thousand dollars to drill perfectly healthy teeth. Furthermore, my dentist said that if I did need four fillings, he could have done them for about 800 or 900 dollars, and that the filling Dr. Balkins did for me looked like a poor job with shoddy resin. Not being a dentist myself, I cannot be absolutely sure who is right, and I'm sure different dentists will have different opinions about the same set of x-rays. That said, four (possibly five!) unnecessary fillings seems excessive, and one dentist quoting me literally twice as much as another for the same amount of work seems ridiculous. I will reiterate that Dr. Balkins is a kind, personable man, but seriously, get a second or even third opinion before scheduling any expensive procedures. read more

Amazing! The staff is friendly and professional, very efficient and on time with a nice relaxed atmosphere. More importantly Dr Balkins is amazing! He spent more time explaining things in one visit than my previous dentist had in five years. He was so gentle I never felt the needle for the numbing of my tooth. He really seems to care and want to work with his patients in a way that is rare to find. He even called me at home in the evening after my procedure to see how I was feeling! I was visiting my brother in Corvallis when my crown fell out. I was going to be traveling for a month so I needed to get it fixed and possibly replaced. I asked friends for a referral and they sent me to North Point Dental Group. I am SO glad they did!! Everything about this place is fantastic. I was able to request an appointment online and they called me the next morning. I saw Dr Balkins and he was able to clean the tooth, fix my crown, and put it back onto my tooth without having to replace the crown. He saved me over $1,000!! I am incredibly grateful. I felt the entire time that I was in the hands of very honest and good people. If I ever have a chance to recommend anyone to them I will!! read more

I love North Point Dental! I have been going here since I was a kid. I always had seen Dr. Balkins, who is kind and professional. I actually liked going to the dentist growing up. My mouth has always needed a lot of work, and they have always done a good job, and are always kind and helpful. Over a year ago I started the long process of dental implants. I switched to Dr. Swensen, who specializes in this, and I absolutely love him. Over a year of appointments, mouth issues, and the process of receiving crowns and I feel that everyone at this office are now dear friends! I love all of the staff, they have been so helpful to me and everyone - especially Dr. Swensen has gone above and beyond the call of duty for me. I drive from Bend, OR, and am not looking to find someone closer yet! Dr. Swensen did a fabulous job, and went way out of his way to make sure I had the best experience possible, and I couldn't be happier with my new mouth. The dental assistants and the rest of the office staff also were incredibly helpful in working around my schedule and meeting my needs. As a new patient to Dr. Swensen, I felt it necessary to inform him that I was terrified of going to the dentist, that I was not a good patient. I'm sure that I wasn't the first new patient to share this info with him. It's been 5 years since that first day, and I would not consider going anywhere else. I feel safe, comfortable, and actually look forward to seeing not only Dr. Swensen, but the whole staff. He possesses EXCELLENT dental skills, and his office proudly possesses the latest in dental equipment and technology. He's sensitive to a patients fear of pain, and understands the anxiety a patient may be feeling even if they're not verbal about it. He outdoes himself to make you feel welcome and comfortable, being sure that I, and others, know what he is about to perform, thereby giving us knowledge so we know what to expect.
