I started going to North Potomac Smiles soon after moving to the DC area, and went there for most of the time I lived in the area(many years). Dr. Tran is amazing. In the beginning of 2025, because of job cuts in the DC area I had to move out of the DC area, and the dentist in my new area wasn't as good. I really miss Dr. Tran and the team. Everyone was friendly and did a good job, and I trust them. If I ever get the chance to move back to the DC area, North Potomac Smiles would definitely be my choice. Thank you all so much. read more

I went there for 3 years. They did deep cleaning to me, during which my gum was heavily damaged and got pain for 2 months on each side, and it was hard for me to eat during that period. Until later I went to a different place and did the exact same deep cleaning procedure, which only takes me 2 hours to recover. The difference was too big! Plus, they did a filling to my right back teeth, which has been identified as the worst job ever. I had to redo the filling at a different place. Moreover, each time I went there they would try to sell me something! Their focus is on revenue generation, not customer satisfaction! read more

I cannot overstate just how awful Dr Cuong Tran is. He is the sort of dentist that people develop phobias after seeing. I had a cavity and he handled it so cruelly that at one point I actually screamed from pain. I have to give this practice 5 stars. I've been living in the Rockville area for almost 15 years and have visited a number of dentists. Dr' Matthews is wonderful, pleasant, attentive, and not overzealous or eager to pull, cap, etc like many dentists I've observed. The office itself is extremely efficient in terms of appointments, processing your required forms or insurance, and X-rays etc. They state of the art -- clean equipment. And, the service is prompt. I can't believe how fast the last 5 1/2 years has flown by. That's how long I've been a patient at North Potomac Smiles. I really freaking love this place! I'm so happy to see that they've added more dentists over the years. But the constant and my go-to is still Dr. Kodsi. Dr. Kodsi is a busy guy, but I never feel like I don't have his undivided attention. I ask him questions, tell him my concerns, etc. and he LISTENS. He doesn't rush things just to move on to the next patient. And he doesn't try to schedule a bunch of treatments just to make some moolah. I trust him and his judgment 100%. Shaunte is still my go-to for my bi-annual cleanings. I schedule 6-7 months out just to ensure I get an appointment with her. She's gentle, thorough and super sweet. She really knows how to put a patient at ease. You would think that the overall facility would show major signs of wear and tear, but even after 5 years, I am still impressed at how well kept, clean and modern everything is. I'm curious to know how potential clients or clients can make an appointment. Each time I have called, no one picks up. Due to my job, I can't use my phone throughout the day. The best way is email or me calling them when I can use my phone. I have tried both and still have not obtained an appointment. They are the worst. Went for my first appointment and got turned away saying I need a deep cleaning and the annual one won't suffice. Next appointment was 3 months later and they gave it away to someone else! I was sitting in the parking lot waiting for them to give me the heads up to come and they called me telling me they gave it away. Drove here 2 times and both times were pointless. All the staff members are really nice especially the dental hygienists they always engage in conversation and treat you as an individual and not just another patient that they have to see. After a long history of dentists up and down Montgomery County, I'd have to say that Dr. Khodsi and his staff are my favorites. From the very beginning, I felt very welcomed by his staff. Appointments are a piece of cake to set-up. Michelle never misses a beat with the schedule and it takes less than a minute for her to find a time that works with your extremely cramped college schedule. Also, email, phone, and even text reminders are optional for those that are inclined to forget regardless..Ahem. I've really never seen another doctor's office that works so hard to make sure that it works for you. The oral hygienists I've had are also amazing. Krista is supra-gentle and friendly. I imagine she would be great with kids in the office. Everything always goes quick, painless, and she does an incredible job. Every time I visit the office, Dr. Khodsi finds time to speak with me after my wash. He's spotted problem areas hidden under an old bracket that no other dentist in 3 years has ever even asked me about. Dr. Khodsi is truly a genuine, caring person and a delight to see. Procedures are done quickly and skillfully. Never had a problem during or after the procedure. Him and his staff seem determined to make you feel comfortable in a situation that would normally make a person feel anxious. Additionally, the procedures (e.g. cavity fillings) are highly affordable making me feel at ease. He never recommends needless procedures and always does a full exam whenever you go into his office to make sure that small problems never evolve into large, expensive ones. UPDATE 7/24/16 I've been going to Dr Kodsi for several years. His practice is very full, which is a good sign of happy, growing clientele. The fact that his wife's artwork in the lobby is an official Pokestop is just a perk ;-) Kodsi' office staff is incredibly professional and kind. Literally, everyone. They bend over backward to make you feel welcome, comfortable and you can tell that Kodsi really stresses customer service. Scheduling routine cleanings is a bit challenging because they are so popular. Schedule yours 6 months out and don't miss it. They are more flexible with dental emergencies and fillings. Kodsi explains everything as he does it, and periodically and regularly checks on your tolerance and comfort level. I mean seriously, this guy never seems to have a bad day. He even calls after procedures to make sure you are doing okay. Who does that in 2016?! The office is new, clean, with top of the line equipment. They have free wifi, and although I haven't tried any of the extra services, I know they offer teeth whitening and Invisalign. One of the best signs that an office is authentically customer-driven is the fact that they are accessible. I called in to get an appointment stating that I had abscess on a tooth that would mostly likely need extraction. I told the young lady I was in so much pain, that I was ready to pull my own tooth! She stated that she understood and the dentist would be to help relieve my pain. I also stated on my questionnaire that I have pretty bad gum disease and was looking into implants. I know my situation is bad and wanted to be upfront. I get to the appointment and the Dr. tells me, that my case is to advanced for the office and they cannot treat me until after I see a periodontist and only for the tooth extraction. They did not remove the tooth, take care of the abscess, and gave me a prescription for antibiotics (I had to ask) to take WITH FOOD! I cannot eat because of the tooth and the Dr. was aware of it. This Dr. seemed annoyed that I was even there seeking help. I know I am not the ideal patient because of the neglect of my teeth over the years; but I went there looking for help and I left out the same way I came in. read more

This practice is great! Very clean, everyone is nice, and they're very organized. The receptionists are some of the best I've seen anywhere. Very thorough! My hygienist, Candice, is amazing! I love her! She deserves 5 stars. My dentist, Dr. Tran, awkwardly flirts with the dental assistants which is so off-putting and unprofessional. He does great work on my teeth, but the flirting caused me to drop my rating to 4/5 stars. Update: So the practice changed my dentist from Tran to Kodsi... now I LOVE this place! How do you just cancel an appointment on a patient when they booked the appointment months in advance? I just got a text saying the dental hygienist will be out of the office in August. It's July...it sounds like this was an intentional day off. And it appears as if they don't care about me because I'm not a regular. I chose this practice based on good reviews and I booked this appointment months in advance and this happens. It doesn't leave a great impression. I was able to keep my appointment with a different hygienist so why they couldn't do that without my calling, I have no idea. I do apologize to the lady that picked up the call because I was mad and it's not her fault. I have transferred to few different dentists in my hometown, North Potomac is the best! My first visit to them was in November 2015. I had a major fall that caused trauma and I was afraid my teeth would come out. Dr. Kodsi was great! He checked it out and told me he would do a follow up. He referred to an endodontist to also monitor the teeth. I went back and had the bad news that I had to get a root canal. However, the endodontist and Dr Kodsi made it feel not as traumatizing as it was to me at first. They even helped me with options for paying for procedure. The procedure went great. I went to Dr Kodsi for my temporary crowns and I had some concerns about the look of my crowns. For years I had a gap, that even Invisalign didn't 100% close. Dr. Kodsi was able to close it with my permanent crowns and my teeth look amazing!! I have been referring people to North Potomac Smiles, even from the start of my visits to Dr Kodsi in 2015. read more

Get a feeling I'm being rushed. Your in and out, turnover is important for this office. More patients = more money. This dental office is all about quantity versus quality. The quality was severely lacking. From the dental assistant all the way to the dentist himself. the dental assistant would wear her gloves and touch unclean places and afterwards put her hand in my mouth. as for the dentist, I thank God that I didn't have major work done. The dentist simply fill the cavity and I had pain for over one month. The service was quick and rushed as usual taking no longer than 10 minutes had to come back for a repeat appointment to fix a mistake originally made. Furthermore, I showed up for an appointment, the office was closed. Everyone packed up and went home because of a snow dusting. Worst thing is that they called me 2 hours prior to my appointment to remind me to come in, but they "forgot" to call me and notify that the appointment is cancelled. Now if the tables were turned, I'd owe fifty dollars. read more

I never in a million years thought I would write a 5 star review for a dentist. I have had the absolute worst experience with dentists and I can say this office is top notch. Dr. Kodsi is very patient, actually listens to you and shows sincerity in all he does. I promise you he is getting all the referrals I can give him! While you're waiting for the doctor sometimes you get an iPad to play with (with WiFi of course). The gals that work there are all very nice. The dental hygienist is a total sweetie too. The front desk gal is very informative and knows what she's talking about. I asked her for a detailed bill summary to submit to my flexible spending account she knew exactly what I needed and got it for me and more (and in a matter of seconds)! I've had my share of incompetent medical staff and I can't stand it. But this office has it down! I got an estimate the first day I was there and it was pretty darn close to the actual amount to pay. Work I've had done: Filling to tooth 30 and crown to tooth 31. Gum cleaning to right side. I have 2 fillings, 1 partial crown and left gum cleaning left to do and I'm not afraid of going back! Granted I may still sweat when in the seat but I've never had to tell the doc to back off to give me a moment. They send you email, text and phone appointment reminders, totally awesome. You can also confirm your appointment via text, love that! The last time I went in I complained I couldn't eat on the side I got a filling and crown. The worked diligently to make sure nothing was wrong with the filling (they took 2 xrays just to make sure) and in the end all I needed was to shave down the filling a bit and it was perfect. They also spent all the time I needed to get the crown to fit perfectly and to be quite honest I felt bad that I had to ask to keep shaving down the crown, but the Dr made me feel at comfort that he too wanted the crown to fit perfectly. It was all worth it in the end, I can eat again! They have state of the art technology and know how to use it! Let's just say I won't be waiting 2 years for every checkup anymore! read more

If not, I'd like to nominate Dr. Kodsi for our next Secretary of State because seriously, not only is this man extremely personable and kind, even when he has to deliver bad news, he is the most professional doctor I have ever had. What other reviewers have said--most up-to-date technology, tries to save you the most money (and physical pain) as possible, super efficient overall. I came here for a second opinion after a dentist told me I had nine cavities, and he told me I had three, and that none of them were so urgent that I had to get them fixed this instant. When he filled two of the three, he numbed my gums with a spray before using the needle, then actually applied Novocain three different times because my tooth was still sensitive before the procedure. Didn't make me feel bad for being such a wimp, and assured me he would take care of it as quickly as possible. Also, I want to make a point to call out their front desk staff--both women actually REMEMBER me when I walk in, and I've been there twice. They are straightforward and clear about payment and insurance, helpful with scheduling, and probably the friendliest front desk staff I have ever encountered. I can't emphasize enough how awesome this place is. If you don't have a car, buy one just so you can drive to your appointment with Dr. Kodsi (not Metro-accessible). read more

Excellent dentist. I had an excellent hygienist, she was thorough and friendly. The cleaning was painless. Although I have to return for some dental work that I have been delaying, I do not feel that I was railroaded into getting the work done. There was no huge sales pitch and Dr. K gives you options. Think about it, people, it is a dentist and they realize they are just as popular as the proctologist or gynecologist, but...you can still like what you do and make it not so dreadful. Let me start off by saying that I haven't been to the dentist in almost 8yrs because of a horrible experience the last time (different state). I have taken care of my teeth in that time (brush 4x a day) so I wouldn't have to go to the dentist, but I've noticed that one of my cavities from 8 yrs ago was starting to look bad. Did alot of research, and even though Kodsi's office is pretty far (I live in Columbia Heights), I figured it was worth it since he was the most highly reviewed dentist (and there aren't that many highly reviewed dentists out there). The appointment went very well. I was taken back right when I arrived (no waiting - a first), and treated very well by the hygienist. She did an excellent job explaining everything and cleaning my teeth (and even commented how my teeth were in great shape for not having been to a dentist in 8yrs). I waited less than 2 minutes for the dentist, and he did a great job showing me my teeth, and explaining my options (did not try to sell me unnecessary procedures). This was easily the best dentist/office I've been to, and everything was very modern and advanced. read more

The positives: Dr. Kodsi and his staff are great! I'm always promptly greeted and helped by their office staff, who are so on top of what's going on (no slow moving non-tech savvies here!) His dental staff are always so nice and professional, I have nothing but good things to say about them! Dr. Kodsi himself is super nice and makes you feel comfortable with whatever prognosis he's giving. The building is convenient to get to from the freeway and always has parking available. I love that I get email confirmations and can request appointments online. It's super convenient! Ok so the thing is, I'm giving them 4 stars and also switching dentists. The reason? I think Dr. Kodsi and his team were so great that they expanded a lot to accommodate all the patients. This means it takes a really long time to get an appt (I made mine months ahead of time), you feel a little rushed in and out, and also you don't always get Dr. Kodsi. (It should be noted I've had Dr. Graham and she's really great). But you know, it's a big office now and there will be pros and cons to that. However, for me I prefer a smaller operation. read more

There is nothing that makes you feel older than breaking a tooth. I called my insurance and they directed me here to Dr. K. He is sweet, kind, and works quick. He explained all the reasons I needed a crown, but gave me the option of just fixing the filling (I picked the crown). When I had massive pain from the temp crown, he did everything in his power to make it feel better, eventually sending me to Dr. Gamson (the cabaret endontist). It's shocking how good this practice is. No one loves dental visits, but I feel like they do their best here to keep things quick and uncomplicated. If you arrive on time, you won't be waiting more than a minute before you're seen. Everything is shown to you on a flat panel TV and explained in plain English; no jargon. The staff are all friendly, courteous and professional. I'm pretty talkative, and I had some really great discourse when I didn't have metal instruments in my mouth. It's also the little things. Eye protection when they assault your gum line with the water pik. Proper swag when you're on the way out. Printouts that actually explain what you got done and how much it cost. The big man himself seems to only drop in at the end of each appointment, but he's friendly and not at all imposing. I've been to several dentists since childhood, but recently with motherhood, have put off going for 5+ years. I finally went after reading a review for NPS, & wanted a place that would see the whole family in the Rockville area. The only regret I have is; I wish I came sooner. From the front desk to the hygienist, to the dentist, was seamless. The front desk personnel is great at customer service and was able to find an appt. to fit my schedule. She has great manners & can multi-task. There were three calls, a person checking in & another checking out & kept her composure throughout. Shante, my hygienist was not only skillful, but explained what she was doing at every step. She gave me helpful tips & was completely honest about the condition of my teeth & gums. In the past, my mouth looked like bloody Chiclets, but not this time. She was thorough without causing unnecessary pain. I'm requesting her every time. Dr. Kodsi, the dentist has a great chair-side manner & has a breath of knowledge. He told me that some of the procedures former dentists told me I needed, were unnecessary/risky. While other procedures were immediate & why. So far, this office has seen me & my 5 yr old and I couldn't be more pleased. If your hesitant & in need of dental work, don't wait. I hate going to the dentist and I am a baby about facial/dental pain. Having said that, NPS has been providing my dental care for a year now and I have absolutely nothing bad to say about them---this is the best dentist I've had in twenty years. Dr. Bergen and CDA Emily Alvarez skillfully placed a temporary crown on an exposed tooth. Somehow, I managed to crack it and my tooth became exposed in the next week---painful! I needed a new temporary placed on that tooth immediately.Despite being completely booked through closing, NPS managed to squeeze me in at the end of the day. The CDA that saw me for the unscheduled visit was Sasha Gramkow. Like Emily during the prior visit, he was polite, knowledgeable and adept at his trade. He was able to fashion a temporary without anesthesia (he offered, but I declined) despite my very sensitive tooth. While I was in the office for over an hour---not bad for an unscheduled visit with no openings----the entire interaction and procedure with Sasha took only about 30 minutes and I am completely happy with the result. They did not charge for the replacement. read more

I've been going to North Potomac Smiles for more than 5 years. The staff is great and really helpful/efficient in scheduling appointments. I've never had to wait a particularly long time for any thing (cleanings/fillings etc). I have only seen Dr Kodsi, so I can't speak to the service of any other dentists, but he always takes the time to follow up on any concerns I might have and to explain any issues he might be worried about. And I love my hygienist (I've seen a few others, but always get her when my schedule allows). Overall, a great practice! read more

Shaunte, my Dental Hygienist, is spectacular. Not only does she educate me on best teeth cleaning practices, but she also goes the extra mile by getting to know me as a person. I'm sure she knows more about my life than most of my friends do :-). North Potomac Smiles is also top notch with their technology. I have visited for two cleanings so far and both the hygenists and the Dentist are excellent and I highly recommend them. The location is convenient and the office is in excellent condition. The staff is very professional and I had no issues with my insurance and with making an appointment at a convenient time. The website and online features are also very convenient. This practice clearly embraces technology but also makes an effort to be friendly and that makes a visit not so bad.
