They are terrible at dealing with the insurance because they don't care how much you end up paying (their own admission, refreshingly honest). Today was my second time coming to the clinic. The customer service is so wonderful. Everyone is very nice there. The dental professionals are very warm, genuine and caring. They even asked me to chose a channel to watch while I was in the chair. They are also very transparent with their prices which I appreciate because I know most medical places try to do stuff while being unclear leaving you with unexpected bills. They are in a great location with ample parking and great shops to go to before or after to motivate you to go to the dentist. Reluctant and saddened to leave a one-star and the forthcoming review, but a series of events have inspired me. In my opinion dentistry is both an art and science, and patients rely on their dentist and staff to be honest, demonstrate integrity, quality care, and when necessary, an appropriate and responsible level of follow-up care to resolve issues. Briefly, I had two composite fillings on two front teeth that I'm sure Dr. Farghani tried his best and thought at the conclusion of our time were fine. Upon leaving the office, I was scheduled for a follow up visit a few days later for additional composite fillings. After arriving home, I phoned the office and spoke with the office mgr. asking her to thank Dr. F. for spending the time on the front teeth, and referencing two modest gaps between the top of the filings and gumline that required additional attention to ensure the integrity of the teeth and prevent possible complications later. The evening before my scheduled and confirmed appointment, I received a text that the doctor had an emergency and my appointment was cancelled. I phoned the office the following morning, learning that the doctor was in fact in the office seeing patients. When I further inquired, I was told after being put on hold for an extended period of time that he was "only in for a bit." My appointment was first thing in the a.m., so you can imagine I started speculating on the nature of my cancellation. (Was I being booted from the practice? Cancelled?) When I asked if I could be fit into his schedule later in the week, I was given the option of an appointment late-January -- 2 months and change later. "You can't fit me in before January?" I asked. "He's very busy, but I'll let you know if we receive a cancellation." So there you are, suspicion confirmed that I became the problem patient for them and they'd just assume to opt out vs. being professional and leveling with me. I even expressed to the office mgr. if Dr. F. didn't think we were a good fit moving forward, I'd understand. But I'd appreciate, knowing they were already paid for the work, to please complete the job. She completely dodged my request for honesty and said all is fine. So now I'm faced with finding another dentist pronto to fix the two teeth. Yesterday, my husband who also had an appointment this coming Tuesday, 11/30/21, was sent a text indicating that they were cancelling his appointment because the office would be closed for the holidays, beginning 11/29. An appointment he'd made several weeks prior and confirmed with them. Strange, indeed. Cancel Culture X2. And so it goes! read more

My daughter and I have been patients or guests at Modern Smile for almost 4 years I think. I hesitated above to say clients because the entire staff there, from when you walk in the door to when you're laying down, mouth wide open and Dr. Farghani or any one of the team members there, has their hands all up in your mouth with (essentially) power tools cleaning or repairing your teeth, these professionals make you feel like you're family through it all. I'm a single father and before my daughter and I relocated to the area, going to the dentist was always a nightmare. My daughter is extremely particular (she's a princess, has me wrapped and knows it). When we were leaving our first visit at Modern Smile, she mentions "that wasn't that bad, they were nice :)". My daughter also is now the one reminding me when we have to go back to get cleaned again as well. Long story short, my daughter, who is almost 9 btw, never says stuff like that. My daughter hates dentists and going to the dentist lol. But not this dentist. They're good, genuine people and they do a great job. I've gotten my teeth whitened there too and was super stoked about the results. Super clean, nice place as well in a great location. Tooth cracked on me yesterday and they fit me in this morning; first thing. Aside from the numbing shots, it was painless. I'm convinced the magical pre-numbing gel they use before sticking you with the needle helps with the pain. It was a nice touch. I didn't feel a thing. I took my 33 months old son for his first dental exam. But, I am sorry to say I was highly disappointed with Dr. Forgahni and his staff. No effort was made to calm him down or to ease his anxiety for the medical treatment. Neither his exam was done well, I am not sure if Dr. was even able to look inside my child's mouth for any cavities. I checked with the doctor before scheduling my son's appointment about kid's first dentist visit. Now I regret my decision for taking him there. I was also disappointment by the behavior of few techs and front desk people that were making visibly annoyed face as my son was making few noises( of course being a 33 months old, it's tough for a kid to not be a kid) I would find a better pediatric dentist for him.I never had this kinda experience at any pediatric place for him. My daughter and I went to this office several times. The services were OK. But, I was billed wrong three times. One time was for my daughter. The office gave her fluoride treatment, I was charged $30. Because my daughter was below 18 years old, this treatment should be free. I checked my insurance and contacted the office many times, however, the office did not refund me. I got my money by dispute via credit card. I went to this office for deep cleaning. I was charged $160 each time. Later, I checked my policy. I found that I only needed to pay $120 each time. I was overcharged $80 in total. read more

I've feared dentists since I was a child. They all seemed cold and robotic. From getting wisdom teeth pulled to getting X-rays, I've always felt like cattle being herded from room to room and staring at the same lonely palm tree beach poster that many dentists offices have. Either Dr. Forghani is an anomaly or he actually cares about how his patients feel. His hygienist, Ms. Forghani, is equally empathic. Don't get me wrong, going to the dentist can still be uncomfortable for your mouth but, they treat me like family and are as gentle as they can be. If my previous experiences with various dentists were like this, I would've never had a fear of them. My first (and hopefully last) root canal, I was very anxious but, Dr. Forghani was amazing. There was some discomfort (as expected), but not at all painful. He is so good, my two young (3 and 7 yr) boys love him too! I'm so happy, my sons don't have to go through what I did as a kid going to the dentist. And thankfully he doesn't have the lonely palm tree beach poster... instead you have the option to watch TV or play a video game while sitting in the chair. Just wow, I'm appalled at the way I was treated here today. Went in today as a first time patient and will never return or tell anyone else to go either. Absolutely atrocious behavior from the hygienist and her little helper who looked to be all of 12 years old. The little helper girl who took my X-rays was rude from the start and kept jabbing the hard plastic piece in my mouth and getting an attitude because SHE couldn't do her job properly and get good pictures of my mouth. So once she finally finished, here comes the hygienist telling me things I already know and stating I need 3 separate appointments which conveniently costs more money to do. She then expects me to pay upfront prior to services being rendered. I'm not sure if she didn't think I can afford to pay because I'm black or what but oh hell no! I drew the line there and told her that I was not feeling the LACK OF CUSTOMER SERVICE and was leaving. She proceeded to ask why. I told her my thoughts and very condescendingly, she attempted to argue and say that all her patients like to know costs upfront and blah blah blah. I calmly let her know that I was done talking about it and was not changing my mind. No thanks! I would never allow people that rude upfront to touch me with needles and sharp tools, absolutely no bedside manner whatsoever. My green money spends anywhere and I will certainly take it somewhere else that will treat me appropriately and hopefully has skilled adults working for them. Run don't walk away from this place. My dental insurance recently required me to change dentists since my old dentist was no longer covered in my policy. Boy am I glad that this happened! Modern Smiles is awesome! The office is not only convenient for me (by Trader Joes in Rockville) and has free parking in the garage right next to it, but the service is great! The dentist can be a not so fun place to visit and Modern Smiles has made dentist visits a welcoming, comfortable, and actually enjoyable experience. There are tv's hooked up with amazon prime, netflix, music channels and more- so that you can watch movies, shows, etc. of your choice while you are getting your work done. I recently went in for teeth whitening and the dentist and staff remembered that I was doing this for my upcoming wedding (I booked the appointment months ago) and were so excited and kind to me while I was there. I absolutely love Dr. Forghani and the team at Modern Smiles. Everyone is so welcoming and accommodating from the receptionist to the dental assistants. The practice is sooo nice and beautiful. Wide, clean and open spaces with great design and you can tell they spent time thinking about best ways to make patients feel comfortable. I had to fill cavities and the first appointment took almost two hours, but the office does bore you in an empty room but asked me what I would like to watch on the tv service specifically for doctors offices, and I watched a great Korean movie. The dentist is very friendly and I went to his practice for a bit less than a year. The reception staff is awesome. I was extremely disappointed however when I had 5 veneers and a front crown done.I told the dentist in advance that the front two teeth I wanted longer than the other teeth. He said I would get a rendering via email which I did. I responded and told him that the front teeth are not longer than the other teeth that they all look like Chiclets which I really wanted to avoid and I wanted the teeth to look more natural as well as the front two teeth a little bit longer. He said he would report this to the lab making them and that I would be shown the teeth before he did the procedure. The day of the procedure he numbed me and as I requested gave me gas and before I knew it he had already started with the procedure I thought he was going to pause and show me the veneers before he put them in. He did not and even after he had completed the work, he did not give me a mirror to show me how they looked. He raced out of the room to go to his next patient. It was a large investment and in light of the fact that this is radically changing my smile that he should have shown me the teeth before, as promised. He did not even give me a mirror and asked me my thoughts as to how they looked. On my way from the dentist chair to the bathroom I almost fainted because I was still dizzy from the gas. The dentist's wife saw this and told the assistance that I should have rested more then she came to the front where I was standing and told me that I am dizzy probably because I didn't eat enough. This added further to my frustration as I knew it was because of the gas and not because I didn't eat and in fact you're not supposed to eat hours before you have gas. Overall I think the practice is really friendly but I was very disappointed with the attempt to mask the fact that I was still dizzy from the gas. I could tell tell that she was concerned that they might be liable because I got up too early and was still dizzy from the gas. I am equally disappointed that the dentist did not take the time to make sure that I got what I wanted. After discussing this with them they offered to redo my veneers but at this point I really do not want to come back to that office after the way I was treated. read more

We've been patients of Dr. Forghani for many years - back before he had his own practice. We have always found him to take a personal interest in our welfare - when we've had dental emergencies, he responded immediately and made everything better. This included a tumor removal from my mouth that another dentist had said was nothing - Dr. Forghani recognized it for what it was and literally sent me directly to an oral surgeon. His wife works in the practice as well and you can tell that their staff likes being there. Last time we were at Modern Smiles office more than a year a go. Where my wife did a simple check up. Few weeks ago we were charged $45 for a missed appointment in April??? When we call to the office, we were told that we had an appointment scheduled and we missed. Me and my wife do not recall making any appointment, specially 6 months in advance. Who even does that? I have checked our telephone records and seems that they did even try to send a small reminder. The office is beautiful, the staff are incredibly helpful and kind and all of the equipment is modern and fresh. The real gem here though is Dr. Forghani. He is patient, genuine and incredibly knowledgeable. I went into my appointment telling him I have anxiety and he walked me through every step with a gentle touch and demeanor that kept me calm even through a wisdom tooth extraction. Also I felt like he just had me do what was essential and he did not try to sell me on things I did not need. I appreciated that so much. For the first time I don't dread going to the dentist! I attended Modern Smiles in Rockville on May 8, 2018. I was impressed by its equipment and very polite employees. I ordered a partial denture for low teeth, which as promised , would be ready in 2-3 weeks. The denture that I received on May 29 looked strange: its left part teeth were lower than its right side. When Dr. Forghani put it, I felt pain. He assured me that I need time to accustom. However, I was not only unable to accustom. I waked up at night with a huge pain and could not sleep. In the morning I ran to Dr. Forghani but the office was closed on Wednesday. Next day Dr. Forghani made new dental impressions (did it himself) and ordered a new denture that came in July . But it was bad again. Its lower teeth don't fit the corresponding upper teeth so that it was impossible to grind food, etc. I ask my daughter to make pictures demonstrating that, which I sent to Dr. Forghani with an explanation (as a prof. of mechanical engr. , I explained its unfitness) . It was impossible to deny the obvious and Dr. Forghani said that this was a fault of CA technicians. He asked his assistant to use a mold to make a dental impression again (4th time). This lady was unable to pull the mold from my mouth and started moving it to sides. As a result, she broke my upper 5 teeth bridge, which costs significantly more than the denture. I was one more month without teeth and used only oats meal and other light food. The 3d variant of denture came on August 13 -three month later. Now it fits the upper teeth . But what kind of a doctor I dealt with who is unable to do the job in 2-3 weeks? Moreover, he saw that the first variant was bad but lied that all would be fine. The same was with the 2 variant. Again lie. Moreover, I was billed additionally for lab work $100 (there was no lab work) and $40 as the co-payment (I found out that for my plan it's $0). This is a fraud. In addition, Dr. Forghani , who calmed me down when my bridge was broken and promised to "elaborate," refused to delete the broken 2 teeth (I asked him during 4 visits and he responded "be patient. Now he decided to make money from the accident of July 13 and asked me to pay about $10,000 to make a new bridge on implants and add 4 more teeth. A honest cultured person would never deal with such a doctor. Such Modern Smiles should be closed. This is a modern dishonesty and incompetence. All this cost me money I should spend time to recover. read more

I vividly remember my first appointment with him, as the office where he worked at that time had run out of nitrous. I had always been seen by other dentists at that office, and was fearful of dental procedures, such as fillings, root canals, and extractions without the administration of nitrous. Dr. Forghani assured me that I would feel no pain but that if I did, he would stop and I could reschedule. I was skeptical, but he was so gentle during the administration of Novocain. He kept me informed as to what he was doing, as well as asking if I was alright. Dr. Forghani really appreciated my fear of the process. The entire process was painless, and I never again asked for nitrous. My husband, who avoided going to the dentist, was seen by Dr. Forghani and experienced a pain-free implant, root canal, and crown. He is now making regular appointments as he was so impressed by Dr. Forghani. Dr. Forghani and his staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and experienced with insurance. Their new office in Rockville is modern, easily accessible, and offers plenty of parking. They are open on Saturdays, as well as during the week until 5 pm, which is important for patients like us who work during the day and have difficulty taking off work early for a dental appointment.
