To be transparent I came to the library for a pop up coffee experience but got so much more. A library card that I haven't had in years, borrowed a book that I was eyeing when I was in line waiting for coffee another thing I haven't done in over 10 years. Also got to attend the library book sale and raffle. Bought some raffle tickets and bought a couple or several books. An unexpected Saturday morning. read more

This is a review that I wrote last August, but for some odd reason it didn't make it to Yelp!, but here you go: Hey y'all! Good afternoon! Happy Monday! I just want to give a shout out to Stefanie Dalton, Director of the North Providence Union Free Library, & the initiatives she's made to improve the library that have aided in the quality experience to better serve their members, town residents, & community alike. I stopped in recently & was having severe technology issues due in large part to an extremely outdated laptop. I'm glad I asked for help as Paul was a wonderful resource. Having problems with your device or technology in general, make your way up to the Reference Department on the second floor & ask for Paul...you won't be sorry. read more

Friendly people always willing to help at the desk. Love that they clean out the shelves and offer free books in the lobby. This is a nice size , smaller library that's really easy for me to navigate and love doing my holds there. read more

The staff: The NP library is a comfy place of good vibes, and warmth. This is in large part due to the affable staff who is always glad to be of service. I've found them to be not only obliging, but genuinely interested in getting to know their patrons. Often pleased to engage in pleasant chit chat or to make useful suggestions to a patron's queries. These fine folks seem to take great pride in doing a solid job. The building: Though architecturally frozen in the 1980s (one might imagine scenes from THE BREAKFAST CLUB being filmed here), the staff is frequently livening the place up with festive decorations during holidays, and other celebrations. It's a humble place, but never sterile. Books etc: Plenty for a town library. For kids, and adults alike. Plus, if they don't have what you are looking for, they will order books from other libraries to be delivered here. Not too shabby. The extras: Adding to the community-based feeling, this library also offers movie nights, art projects, classes, free Wi-Fi, and even creative contests with fun prizes. There are also computers to use, and story time sessions for the kids. So much to offer. Oh, and what's this? It's all FREE you say? You're damn skippy it is. Bottom line: The world needs more places like this. Now more than ever. Support your local library. read more

You need to bring the kids here. Seems like with time they less and less know places like libraries. And I personally think that it is sad. I know the work changes. And what libraries used to be for me and for people from my generation will not be for the newer generations. But still, it was fun coming to a library. Feel the vibe that only libraries have, and to enjoy some time at a place that i haven't been to in a very long time. Staff is amazing, and the place is clean and cozy. read more

Hmm how can I write this review without smiling . Yes everyone a big grateful smile! I have never been to this library, so it was my first time. And I am so pleased to live this close to this library that I will be here often because of the selection , the amazing help and the lovely employees. Needless to say my day has been made , and possibly even my week. I was greeted from every single person who worked here , and I mean the happiest elderly people on this planet . I felt like I met a new family who will help me get back on track within myself. My first stop was at the front desk to sign up for a library card. The lady who helped me out was so helpful and had an amazing smile. She signed me up for my card very quickly and answered all my questions I had ( which happened to be a million haha) . So now I am official. I mosey on up to the second floor which had the books I needed as well as the computers I need to print some information. Now remember I'm new so I have no clue where my books are or how to log in. So j visit the service desk for help the mans name was Joe boy was he great. He was in the process of helping 2 others already but he made sure to great me and be with me promptly . Joe was so nice he showed me all the books I needed and more. Unfortunately they didn't have one of the books I needed so Joe helped me by looking at other libraries and requesting it for me. He also helped me on the topic I was looking for which is death and dying and Buddhism , he made sure I found what I needed and he also knew a lot about Buddhism so it helped me out. I then get help from Joe on the computer and print everything I need within minutes. While I'm getting my work done Joe comes along and tell me to please look into grief , because he said " you have a high spirit and please read into it because a lot of people need help and you seem like you could help a lot of others". I couldn't believe it GREAT words of encouragement ! Now finally I go back downstairs because that's where you check out books, which I ended up wanted only 2 books and left with 8 but no biggie. And this time I'm dealing with another lady at the front and we spoke and she saw my how to deal with death book and she says maybe she should read it because it marks a year soon of her daughters death. I sincerely apologize to her and I tell her mame I will read this book and will tell you about it and if it's worth it and I tell I'm so sorry but to keep living on and just cherish each day. Those words for some reason hit her so hard she cried and thanked me so much with a great big smile. There is some hope that some jobs do have majority amazing generous people , amen! read more

I usually stop at the library to print something if I am in a jam, or to donate books. The staff has always been wonderful, the library is always clean, quiet and very well organized. read more

Fair warning, I'm a bibliophile at heart. So this review might be a little bias. They have a nice open floor plan with two floors. There are some group seating available on the top floor and some firm blue couches to relax and read a book. They have a few large run-down study/quiet rooms available on the perimeters of both floors. This library is not too busy, mostly kids getting tutored, young high schoolers with group projects and encouraging moms with their toddlers browsing the children's section. Very calm and neighborhood-like. Now, I always check the helin catalogue before grabbing a book here. Much of the titles (I usually aim for fiction novels or bestsellers) are never available in this particular library. I would have to order it first, for it to be delivered here. Which is a bit of a downer for me since I like to browse around the shelves and discover books that I have in mind. Otherwise, it's a very nice family-friendly library. read more

North Providence Union Free Library - The second floor - Libraries Near Me - North Providence, Rhode Island

The first floor (kid's section) seems great. Second floor (adult section), not so much. The staff up there ignores new patrons, and is always loudly talking to each other. I wouldn't mind this in other settings, but in a library, you'd think the staff would know to whisper or use quieter voices as people are studying/reading.... Didn't get a friendly vibe from most of the adult staff at all. Their desks are located very close to the study rooms and they are usually loud and inconsiderate. Funny enough, it's the staff who aren't wearing masks who seem to be ruder and louder than the staff who *are* wearing them. read more

Typically I go to the downtown or Rochambeau locations because I feel like I am treated better. This was 100% the case. When I first walked into the library the woman at the front desk with a headdress on was super rude. I asked her if they had a scanner to email documents and she was snarky and rude. Finally she stated that they had a scanner I could use upstairs. Great I thought to myself. When I got upstairs and asked for the scanner I was dumbfounded to learn the STAFF has to scan documents.... really? this day and age? Okay so I ask for a staple remover. The guy behind he desk didn't know what that was.... So I finally unstapled all my documents and go back to the front desk... The grouchy manager upstairs made every attempt to tell me they only scan 15 pages. He was super rude about it and it was not my fault their feeder was broken. If it had not been for the wonderful person at the help desk (she couldn't have been older than 18) that offered to scan my documents I would have had to drive all the way back downtown or to Rochambeau back to my typical picks. After she scanned my documents I noticed one was a little off and it was a W2 that I absolutely needed. So I had to go back to the desk and again MR GROUCHY had to put in his two cents. I could tell that the girl really wanted to tell me no ... the only reason being her manager was being a dick. If the girl upstairs is reading this... please share your kindness and spread it, clearly you did not learn it from the rest of the staff. read more

I love this library. They have a great selection of kids books and moies, including blue ray selections. It is nice to take the kids and let them search around for books they want to read. That way I am not stuck reading the same book 100 times! People should really make more use of their local libraries! read more
