My wife and I love this school. My oldest spends all day learning there and loves it. My child is…read morein 1st grade and there's always a weekly allotment of homework in reading, language arts, arithmetic and science. Children are educated in traditional subjects but also on how to improve their learning techniques. My child not only learns the subject matter but how to incorporate it into an applied knowledge of the world. There is also a huge sense of community involving everyone: parents, students, and faculty to become part of the Corlears community. It's impossible for us as parents to not actively engage and become part of the learning experience for our children. My youngest will be starting at Corlears next year. Many activities involve the entire school at different skill sets. Older children become mentors and the example for younger children. Children work independently in addition to learning how to function as part of a team. Teachers build report cards that transcend a letter grade. My child's final report card was 28 individualized pages of in depth information about strengths and weaknesses for all subjects. Now in the off months we work on weaknesses and improve with our goals of maximizing our child's potential for a better life.

We know that our daughter is always supported and loved, and she has adored her teachers in each of the classrooms she has entered. The school has a good balance of learning and play, and as our child has moved into the toddler wing, there are more and more interactive activities for her to do. The leadership builds community within the families and really loves when they are involved, and they are also communicative about issues/changes to schedules, etc. We have had few problems, but when something comes up, the issue is handled right away. One of the things that we love is the diversity within the school and the celebration of so many different holidays. We get to share some of our traditions and traditions we get to learn about the other students', which is something that we had been looking for in a school. We are so so happy that our child is at Meadows, and we look forward to our continued relationship with her school!

The reading and math levels of students before they even enter kindergarten is outstanding. The progress these children make, not just the ones I know, is really something to be proud of. My child was constantly getting removed from classes and we were being told she couldn't sit still in a Montessori which was odd. We kept having constant meetings about him and it just became overwhelming for her and our family. We eventually had to remove her from the school and go into public. The teachers are lovely but are not trained to deal with all types of children which is sad. We also had all services in place for her and with that they still needed help to handle a 1st grader. My best decision was to remove her from a school that kept correcting everything about her.

My daughter happens to be approaching the pre-K age. I WAS (keyword is WAS!) considering Montclair community pre-K as one of our options. I approached the booth and began looking at some of the literature. One of the staff members approached me and immediately said "do you live in Montclair?". I said no. She proceeded to tell me that my child was not eligible for financial aid because we did not live in Montclair. (FYI, I did not ask about financial aid. We DO NOT even need financial aid. I did not get the chance to ask any questions. Her first thought was that we must need financial aid because we don't live in Montclair). I thought to myself OK, not the best way to sell your institution, but whatever. I proceeded to ask some questions regarding the institution (i.e. classroom size, teacher to student ratio, curriculum, etc.) She then AGAIN continued to tell me how my child would not be eligible for financial aid because I did not live in Montclair. I tossed the brochure on the table and walked away. Your institution just lost a potential new student. If this woman spoke to anyone else, whom does not live in Montclair, i'm sure they were turned off by her abrasive and dismissive attitude. You may not want her to continue to be the face of your institution.

This is my son's second year at the Pre-K and I truly love this school. His teacher this year is a…read moremaster teacher that is able to embed academic learning within themed-based units. The students most recently opened a cafe in their classroom where they used math, reading and writing to create and run the cafe. Most importantly, he has consistently learned about empathy and compassion for others, in particular, his classmates. Character development is explicitly taught and experienced in weekly activities. Truly all the staff is incredibly kind and wonderful. I find it shocking that there is another review that felt differently. The directors of the school, not only know my son's name that goes to the school, but also the names of my two smaller children. When you come to the pre-k, it feels like family.

He has learned so much. I attribute his behavioral turn around in part to the staff here. When he started, he would throw daily tantrums but not anymore. The women who work there care for him as though he were their own child. They are mostly middle aged to older women who believe in a balance of being stern and having rules and time out when necessary but also love and compassion. They work tirelessly every day and don't lose their patience in situations where I surely would. I know upon first glance, it may look like an old home. It doesn't have all the glitz and gloss of some newer, fancier daycares. But it does have what many of them don't. It has heart. If you're looking for a daycare that makes you feel like you just dropped your kid(s) off at your grandmother's house, this is it. The kids all have what they need- love.
