Very large campground and lots of trees--the sites all were covered. A TON of mosquitoes but it also did rain everyday. The bathrooms are a hot mess and dark (at least by campsites 1-30) and the showers are beat as well. Beach is nice, water is great, but the rules posted are not the rules they go by. Case in point, the paperwork said you can have two cars but check in says one, and charged our second car $10. I probably wouldn't return. Also the grate over the grill was too spaced and we couldn't put anything smallish on it and had to buy disposable grates. read more

If I could give a zero star review I would. This place is terrible. Staff is bossy and extremely rude. They use what little power they have by stalking campsites at night and demanding people "keep it down" at 9 pm. This place would be great.. But the staff needs a complete overhaul. read more

Not sure about all these bad reviews. The only people we had a problem with camping here last summer were a rather rambunctious group of young adults screaming and yelling all night on both nights we camped here. The staff was very nice. It was late in the camping season so a lot of sites were empty. The only weird rule was they didn't take black trash bags, not sure why. But other than that, the camp sites were crazy huge and the park is beautiful! We had a waterfront site and saw many great blue herons and other birds in the water. We had site 204 and some of our family were staying at site 205 and they were really far apart! We had our dog with us and everyone enjoyed themselves. We are now planning our next trip back this upcoming summer! Can't wait. read more

Like they say at Walmart, the people make a difference. In this case, they make a beautiful location on a scenic lake something to be avoided. I've stayed here now twice, each time surprised by the complete disinterest and lack of customer service of the people who work this state campground. The first thing you will likely encounter at the gate is what appears a strong desire to not let you in the park. In my first visit, my brother had forgotten to put my license plate on the reservation; the second time they couldn't find any detail on me until I provided them all the information they already had. To make it worse, the people at the front desk also try to ignore you as much as possible, moving inefficiently between various mundane tasks as though your presence is a burden on their day. Since their filing system is entirely manual, they seem to find plenty of ways to ignore you. One of the bathrooms was closed on my latest visit, and so over half the park was being served by a single bathroom with a single stall.There seemed little concern or advice from the people running the park, and no one appeared to work on it at all over weekend. While a nice location, you might want to pick a campground with staff that actually care about the enjoyment and well being of their campers. read more

First off this place is beautiful. It is on the popular Great Sacandaga Lake. That is about it. Every time I come here I get harassed for something by staff. whether it's car parking or music blaring from a cell phone (yes a cell phone) at 9:50pm. Beware! The staff walks around at night in dark clothes without using flashlights to search for anything to yell at you for. BUT only certain people will get targeted. Last visit, many sites had over 3 cars on and I get in trouble for three when my guests are from other sites and paid for reservations. Try Moffitt or Caroga Lake, I have NEVER had any problems there. read more

The people that work here are ridiculous and rude. They take their jobs too serious. Apparently you cannot share sites and just park at one without camping equipment. Good job making a good experience into a shitty one. They staff here should all be fired for their unprofessionalism and misconduct. Will not be be returning here again. First time camping in New York, and I must say we couldn't have picked a better spot to begin at. NOTE: If you must have access to wifi at your site or in most part of the campground or the general vicinity, (un)fortunately, you won't find it here. But miraculously our older teens actually said it was nice because we could actually talk and spend time with each other. Our 2-night camping at Northampton Beach campground (NY state parks) offered us what we really needed - a peaceful camping experience surrounded by pines and hardwood with clear waters of Sacandaga lake just a few min walk away. I would have certainly given 5 stars had the park offered a trail system for hiking. In the absence of it, the campground receives a strong "4". I always look for information on particular sites and feel like I hit a jackpot every time a camper posts a picture or comment about a particular site. So, for that reason, we stayed at site 10 with the campsite backing into an inlet (is that what it is called) of the lake. The site offered adequate spacing from neighboring sites and was 2 sites (or about 1/2 min) walk to the bathroom and water spigot. Oh, the sites are no hookups which we didn't mind at all. Oh, regarding negative comments posted about this park...we had absolutely no issue with any staff during our stay. they were extremely pleasant and helpful. Other campers were pleasant as well. Only complaint I have is that on the morning of our departure, someone a few sites away started chopping wood before 7am. Yes it was really loud and really obnoxious. Few highlights: 1. Bugs - when we checked in on Saturday in late July, there were few bugs around in the afternoon. A light spray of deep woods type of bug repellent did the trick. Also, even though the site is by water, this did not result in extra buggy atmosphere. All in all, considering we were in "their" environment, I would call this a pleasant campground with hardly any nuisance from the "natives". 2. Bathroom/Showers - clean and generally well-kept. Showers were bit of a walk from site 10, but since you go there only once, and at most two times a day, no big deal. Plenty of bathrooms with flush toilets throughout the campground and the beach. Wish they kept the soap dispenses filled though. 3. Sites - a mix of level, large sites with plenty of trees to smaller, unlevel sites. Site 10 was large and level. 4. Things to do - THE LAKE and the picnic groves. You can definitely spend the whole day with a picnic/grilling by the lakeside in the sun or in the shade. Most lakes/waterside camping hardly offer shade, so I loved this about this park. Tall pine tree picnic groves with plenty of access to grills, bathrooms, water spigots. Water is clean and there is lifeguard presence. You can rent kayaks too. All in all, perfect spot regardless of whether you are a beach type or just sit in the shade and read a book type (me). Can't wait to go back for at least 3 nights next time. read more

The park workers are not friendly. The bathrooms are disgusting, and have mold growing in the showers. The campsites are run down and have trash all over them. My dog ate something she found on the ground from previous campers and got sick. I would never reccomend this campground. Definitely 2 thumbs down!! read more

Ok folks. I have to 100% disagree with most of these reviews saying how rude/terrible/unprofessional the staff is. My wife and i just got back from a 3 night stay here. Sat-mon nights. We were actually very concerned going into a 2 and a half hour drive to be constantly harassed by the rangers or whoever for 3 nights. I dont know if they completely re-staffed (i highly doubt it), but for the 3 nights we stayed, the only complaints (we figured out) were about the campers complaining here! Every single staff person we met could not have been nicer! The sites are huge and beautiful, i honestly dont know what people are crying about. Im an experienced camper, and our stay here was top notch. Not a thing to complain about. Saturday night was bumping with people being loud, talking/playing music, etc... and not 1 person we saw or heard of was bothered. And the loudness basically stopped at quiet hours. We did not encounter 1 ranger until our checkout day, and they saw us, waived, turned around and left. I can see the rangers busting chops in summertime when idiots are going nuts all night, but guess what, thats their job. We will be going back here as fast as possible!
