The 1903 original library building is blended seamlessly with the newer structure. As you enter, there are many wide open spaces to sit and read throughout the library. For the children, there is a large children section which has a lot of fun animal characters. We were visiting in the winter so the outdoor area was closed but it did look very nice. The parking lot is good but I would imagine that it would always be great to have more parking. Finally, the book self-check-out system is definitely state of the art and there is an electronic drop of book drop off at the main entrance. The architect, Michael Pagano, and the entire library team did an amazing job with this new town community hub. Don't miss the "Let your quest be for knowledge" inscription on the stained glass in the 2nd Floor staircase of the original 1903 Library building.

But it was becoming increasing obvious that as the town grew so did the need for a larger library. So a lovely new library was opened in the year 2010. It's named after Pearl Crawford, a brilliant woman in the town that could apparently do just about everything. Pearl passed away in 1971 but now her memory lives on in a library that she would have loved. The library is very modern and spacious and gives the appearance of one long room. But in reality there are separate rooms off to the side of the main area. The library has a really cool internet café room with pithy quotes on the walls and a booth that looks more at home in a real café. It also has a wonderful children's room with all kinds of cool things to read, play and look at. There was even a visit from Queen Elsa and Princess Anna while we were there. A modern, friendly and very, very useful and convenient library. It's easy to see this library serving the town for at least the next century or two.

Sandstone High schools…read moreand towers The Gale Free Library is a stunning and amazing building indeed. The building is actually called The Damon Memorial Building and until 1926 housed both the high school and the library. The high school received it's own building and the Gale Library took over the entire building. The library is made of lovely granite from local quarries with brown sandstone trim and the roof is black and red slate from the state of Maine. The library was designed by the famous Boston architect Stephen Earle in the Romanesque Revival Style and even includes a clock tower. The money for the library was donated by Sam and Susan Damon Gale and was opened in 1888. This was the great era of library building and the inside is as impressive as the outside. A stunning and wonderful building, libraries like this will never be built again.

The entire second floor of the Library is dedicated to kids. There are separate rooms on this floor for playing, crafts, and reading. The room for kids to play in is HUGE! There are toys for younger children, such as trucks, dinosaurs, and dolls. They had a little corner with a Barbie House and Barbies to play with; puzzles, board games, and blocks. This is the best room I've seen at a library for kids; and I have visited a lot of libraries in Massachusetts. They have a great selection of books for adults and kids; the librarians were all extremely friendly and helpful; they have computers for the public to use, as well as printers and a copy machine. Unlike the Worcester Public Library, which is the closest library to where I live; my kids and I were able to go here, actually use a computer and print off what we needed; and not be asked 4 times in the parking lot for money and then harassed inside the library for money as well (an EVERYTIME OCCURRENCE AT THE Worcester library ). I truly enjoyed my visit here, and I can safely say it was one of, if not the funniest time, my daughter and son had at a local library. The only thing stopping me from 5 's was that they had very few video games, or at least for the popular systems most kids play today, which was what my son had been most looking forward too; and the ONLY other downfall was the parking. There aren't a lot of places to park, and being on the Main Street of Oxford I feel like parking on certain roads may not be allowed. Other than that, if you haven't visited the Oxford Public Library, bundle up your kids and take advantage of a pretty awesome place to entertain them entirely for free!!

I really wanted to be able to rate the Holliston Public Library better…read more The problem is that, even with great service and staff, if the computers don't WORK then there just is no point in myself coming back. Sure, a library is full of books... but people come to use the fax machine, look at reference material, do research, use the computers (to print.....), make photocopies, use the children's room, and so on and so on and so on. In life, I try to get away from the most boneheaded negotiations... and in my opinion: cars, cell phones and PRINTERS are three things that also cost more in the long run that ever expected. Now, I have a cell phone and a car, but because there is a library in every town and throughout both of the previous ones I've had they have never worked, I don't have a printer at home..... and aren't considering getting one. Whenever I need to print something or things I either do it at the school I work at, or at a library, and in this case, I was driving right by this library and decided to stop in. From the outside of the building, it's old and inside is even older.... in all ways. Not even somewhat new / decent computers and the printing system barely works and is horrible at that. When you print a document, half of the time the computer will print and other times it won't. If you are using Google Drive, you have to download every document, re align the margins and so forth, and then print it. Then, you'll have to go to the main desk, because the printer is behind the desk (so much for confidential documents..... then again, I really don't care if they see what I'm printing.....), and check if it printed. After fumbling around with the system for fifteen minutes I left. Even though they only charge 10 cents a page, the Milford Library has an automated system that is so fast and efficient and works properly. Downfall is that they charge $.20. Since I was making a lot of prints, that wasn't feasible. Anyway, my time spent here was honestly a waste. In general, the staff were trying to be very helpful and attentive, but the technology was the issue here. I cannot comment on the book variety or DVD section as I didn't check out any other sections of the library, but I can say that if you are going in here to use a computer (and especially if you are looking to print), you might want to drive ten to fifteen minutes to the Milford Library. 2 stars. Extremely disappointing.

But when I got downstairs for almost those two hours NOBODY sitting in that desk. I called the attention at two woman who were passing by one even didn't say nothing even when I said "excuse me" and the other "give a minute" and she never came back I had problems with the DVD but I left it So many walking by and nobody to help. Unless you bring something noise cancelling it's not a great place for extended study periods. Framingham downtown library is best for that.
