My boyfriend went in for treatment but got way more help than just a 12 step program they got the the PTSD and childhood trauma and addressed that along with his alcohol addiction. Case Manager Shannon and therapist I think her name is Kanesha (maybe I'm spelling it wrong) but my boyfriend raves about both of them and how helpful they are and the facility reached out to me during his stay as I was worried and he will entering an outpatient treatment program once he leaves and we are both very hopeful for our future together in a long time. First of all, they lie about their location to make it sound like it's nice and intestine. In reality it's in Santa Ana. I was going to transfer to another center and they lied about where that was too. It was an hour and 20 minutes away from where I was. These people are not honest stay away. In addition, when I went to pick up my car that was at one of their centers. My car had died so I needed to charge my phone so I can call AAA. They refused to help me. read more

I have repeatedly tried contacting these uncaring people. When my son was kicked out during an extremely hard withdrawal, he was told to leave. They kept his belongings after repeated attempts of contacting them. This "campy" was so big it is impossible to get the individual care necessary. For family members, it was extremely difficult to get info about your loved one. Luckily, we found a place where he successfully detoxed...need a professional staff trained, especially when someone is detoxing and at their absolute worst. The fact that after multiple attempts to contact them and no calls back-I will continue to post until we are at least acknowledged. Sean Lemelle I attended this program for over 90 days to get treatment for addiction. This program is absolutely phenomenal they took care of all my needs as far as treatment groups outside groups acknowledging addiction triggers and so much more. My case manager Mary and my therapist Eric we're truly awesome at helping me, as well as the group leaders Byron and Beth and Freeman.. The whole staff and crew was exceptional, especially Mr.David Gates and his awesome assistant Cherish who were very instrumental in helping me with all my needs that were above and beyond the groups and the therapy. Hats off to them for helping me with all my disability paperwork and paperwork regarding my workplace..(Truly Appreciated)... I am extremely disappointed in Northbound. I was hopeful when first speaking with Erik. He was extremely understanding to the situation my brother was going through and very responsive. Grateful for Erik, but the rest of this experience has been a nightmare. A few issues I had: 1. I was told my brother was going to be in a room alone during detox. I come to find out this was not the case. He left after only a few days, because the living situation gave him more anxiety. He was in a room with a few people some whom he felt comfortable with and others he said felt threatening. I would hope in the future this treatment center chooses to divide their patients according to the addictions they are dealing with. The detox process could be extremely different depending on the substance that was being use and it would be beneficial to a person's recuperation to have a place they feel safe sleeping in. 2. Communication (besides my conversations with Erik) is horrendous. I had to call about 10 times and speak with different people to deposit money into a card that they use so my brother can buy snacks and cigarettes from them. 3. My brother left the same day so the money I deposited was never used. I spoke to Megan over the phone 2 weeks ago she told me I would get reimbursed within two weeks. It has been a little over two weeks so I called again only for her to tell me that the money may be needed to cover drugs that my brother was taking. I do not understand why this would be the case when my brother's insurance has covered the treatment they were providing. 4. My brother left the treatment center without them even noticing. I understand you can't keep an adult against their will, but I had to call numerous times to ask if he was back. 5. Lastly, when leaving he left his belongings behind. I called and asked if I can pick them up, which I did without my brother. He received his things and mentioned the items that were with him in the room were not in his bag. I called multiple times to request the items be gathered for me to pick up. I spoke to Megan who has for weeks now promised to call me back. I have not received a call back. When I called her today she did not give me information about my brother's belongings and only said "I don't know" and "I will give you a call back". They are unable to find a $400 belt that was left in a bag in the room and can't understand why they are unable to ask the people that were in the room with my brother. I hope this place can learn from situations like this and improve their services. Paying so much money for bad service is not worth it. My brother since has been home with me in a healthier environment and is 16 days sober. Proving a safe space is beneficial for a person to get better. read more

One of the worst treatment centers out there. They claim to be 12-step and Trauma informed but they don't provide clients with a Big Book and their curriculum is half "ok" and half Christian based. They do not provide SMART Recovery which is an evidenced based practice. Never have I been at a place that their case managers were RAD-T's, a therapist was still in school, and another clinician was not registered with the board. Most treatment centers are full of AOD (Alcohol and other drug) counselors; this place only has 2; one in case management and the other in management. It is a very cliquey atmosphere with a lot of Christian and 12-steppers on staff that if you aren't either; they will be standoffish to you. Because a lot of their staff are 12-steppers they believe that everyone on the team including someone in admissions or in development gets to put their 2 cents in treatment team. Management, especially the person above the clinical director is a 12-stepper who is narrow minded, inauthentic, and creates a hostile working environment. The CEO is nice and they give good food to the clients. If you're using insurance, any place is better than this. They should've called themselves Southbound since their treatment and value is low. read more

Northbound not only prohibited me from speaking to my family while i was in their care but they "misplaced" all of my most expensive items that i brought with me. i went into northbound straight from a sober living so i decided to bring my valuables with me so they wouldn't get stolen at the sober living i was at but they ended up going missing at northbound. luckily they were able to suddenly find a portion of my items after multiple complaints after i discharged but it's been over a month of me emailing them asking them to replace my most expensive items that went missing and they decided to ignore me. my case manager and therapist were good people at heart but they were terrible at their jobs. it took me ELEVEN days to finally get the support that i needed from the director of the facility who actually did something to hear my voice. i'm very disappointed with the treatment i received at northbound, i had more freedom in JAIL than i had in northbound! i hope that maybe, just maybe they'll replace my misplaced items and that they'll give their patients the opportunity to speak to their families when they're at their weakest point in life. as an addict, i can't tell you how terrible it feels to be prohibited from speaking to your loved ones while you're so vulnerable in a place like that. northbound truly needs a makeover. read more

I consulted with William Walker, Head of Court Services, and from our first conversation I knew he was a genuine man who treats his clients like they are his own blood. Rehabs are becoming commodity in the OC area but the thing that made Northbound stand above the rest is their clinical staff. My team of William Walker, Barek Shareef, Joanna Filidor, George Graham, Kellie Berry, Heather Fotion, and Michelle Iankowitz were so much more supportive than I could have ever imagined. They all went beyond their job responsibilities and pay grades to ensure I was in a safe place mentally, physically, and spiritually, which is something I would not expect from people outside of my family. They pushed me to face my problems and get uncomfortable because they knew that would produce growth. These people helped give me the ability for me to love myself again. I cannot speak highly enough of William, Joanna, and Barek and the countless hours they invested into me. The Court Services attention to detail was extremely impactful in my legal situation with a report going to the necessary legal council EVERY single time I appeared in court. Northbound carries a very strong and proud reputation in the legal system in California and I truly didn't believe it until I saw it. Joanna and Barek are two of the most intelligent Therapists I have ever interacted with and were willing to work with me no matter what the circumstances were. The Trauma Program they offer is top notch in regards to confidentiality and the approaches they use to achieve mental healing. Not only did he help me by writing a progress report and other letters to show to the judge,but he also drove and stayed with me through the whole court process. He was literally with me every step of the way and because of that my 5 felonies became misdemeanors and instead of getting 8 years in jail they offered me informal probation for a year. This was possibly the best outcome I could think of and It wouldn't have been possible without his help. If I could give it a 0, I would and if the case manager that I worked with sees this, she will know EXACTLY who I am. I get it, its a business for profit but if your goal isn't to actually see people make it on the dreams your selling then I suggest a new line of business. Over and over again I would tell the case manager the same thing. Did she listen? Nope! Did she take in any information I provided as well as additional relatives? Nope! I gave her all the information that would have been necessary for her patient that she had if she was truly there to help, only for it to be disregarded. Do your due diligence in research on these programs. Before and after care, preventative planning, etc. Start to finish should be the objective, after a patient leaves; just not while they are entertaining you and your facility. read more

They completely changed their program and management at the end of 2017/beginning of 2018. So the reviews before that are not valid anymore. This place is manipulative and deceptive. I went for a 30 day program. They were saying ANYTHING possible to try and get me to agree to longer time there. I was paying for this out of my pocket and had nobody on my contact list for the rehab to call. When It was time for me to leave they called the people off of my EMERGENCY contact list. People that didn't even know I was there. I had people on my emergency contact list because they told me it was mandatory Incase there was an emergency. They used it to try and manipulate and hold me there longer. I wanted to leave because I felt as if I wasn't getting enough help, or proper treatment. I felt I could've been doing WAY more for the time that I was there. They will call your family behind your back and try to convince them that your unfit and need to stay there longer. They make promises and assure accommodations only to not actually do anything that they say. They completely cut off ALL of your contact to the outside world. You won't be able to talk to any of your loved ones for generally the first 30 days. I felt as if I was just a sheep being herded around. Their program is a 1 size fits all program, even though they say otherwise. So many people were relapsing and running away while I was here. I went to another treatment center called West Coast Recovery Center in Carlsbad. They had more compassion, individualized care, better classes & programs. They also don't rip away all of your freedoms. WCRC actually taught me tools I needed to know and I've been happy & strongly sober for over a year now. read more

This was without a doubt the worst treatment center I have been to. Firstly, the level of care I was given there was poor. Scheduled process groups would get canceled and they would instead give us a "pool party" or "hangout time," as if that is going to help me get sober. I met with my therapist once in the 25 days I was there. It was a full-on mission just to meet with my case manager, and then when you do meet with them they are in a rush to meet with someone else. You have to be very demanding and advocate for yourself to get the things you need there. Staff members are not going to schedule things for you very often. Perhaps my biggest complaint was how they handled the COVID-19 outbreak when I was there. About 30 people got COVID in a span of 2 weeks and they did not do anything about it until the 25th case. The place was dirty and we were all touching the same things. I actually had to tell staff members to set up PPE/Sanitation stations in every main room, that should have been a given from the 2nd/3rd case. Worst of all, everyone that got COVID was taken out of the rehab and either sent home or put up in a hotel, (they also sent them home in Lyfts). As a treatment center, this is highly irresponsible and unprofessional, if a patient gets COVID in your facility YOU HAVE TO QUARANTINE THEM THERE. They tried to send me back home with my immunocompromised dad or into a homeless shelter when I got COVID, but after some talking they gave into quarantining me in their facility. Overall, they do not care much about the client experience, seems like a revolving door of people coming in and out. read more

2019- Used to be a top notch treatment facility. They are a shell of what they used to be. Got my adult child help at this facility and they made cuts to programming, staff, facilities, and living arrangements throughout the entire three months he was there. Patients kept reporting to families that they were going bankrupt. It was a very stressful experience. Look elsewhere is you want your family member's treatment facility to offer stability and predictability. They still have some great clinicians, but I don't suspect they'll stay for all of the chaos. First off Avoid ken the case manager at all costs. If your loved ones pay for your treatment make sure they talk to you and trust in what you say your expeirience in treatment is like. Currently northbound is struggling financially. They even had a meeting about it with clients. They said all treatment centers are struggling financially due to insurance policy changes. If your good at what you do people will come and should never release this information to clients. The main focus should be the wellbeing of the clients and there journey to success which Im sure northbound wants to do. We shouldn't have to learn of financial struggles and witness high employee turnover as clients receiving treatment . Other well established treatment centers such as hazelden and Betty ford are succeeding just fine because they are great at what they do and employee turnover is low. I watched several clients get tricked by the business by suggesting they need treatment longer and mentally they are unfit to there parents or loved ones. This was recommended by the clinicians so it looks official. Really watch out for this if you are considering northbound. If I did this over again which I hope I never will of course, I would choose a different treatment center that doesnt need to fight for money such as hazelden or Betty ford. I have never attended either but have friends in AA that had wonderful treatments. I feel bad for the loved ones that were essentially tricked by a business. The company is struggling financially at this time. If your product is good in any industry you will succeed just fine through any financial crisis industry wide. Trust me I know. My product has been extremely successful and extremely unsuccessful. High turnover rates look awful in any client/customer service based industries. I lost my original therapist and my original case manager while I was in treatment whom I liked. Both moved on to positions at hazelden. Just like any team working environment it should not be blamed on an individual. It should be a clinicle team effort but some individuals can make or break your experience in a business if you deal with them directly as a client. . David Gates .. The director of the program .. Well because of him .. Our son is alive ... David has gone above & beyond the call of duty to save our son's life ... There were a few bumps in the road .. However David Gates took immediate action !! And now our son is going to get intense therapy & David Gates has switched our son's primary counselor to one that will not buy in to our son's LIES .. My word I don't know what I would have done with out David Gates help .. My son would've DIED the day after Christmas .. He gave me his personal cell ph number ... He walked me though every step of the way ... I honestly don't know what we would've done with out Northbound .. We drove from Bend Oregon on the 27 leaving @ 7am straight through to Newport Beach .. We arrived @ 2:45am .. So we admitted our son the next day ... It was getting UGLY with our son's behavior we were loosing our minds .. Brian came to the hotel & picked us all up & took our son's phone immediately .. As the phone & texts from the female our son thinks he loves was creating unnecessary drama for all of us .. I am so grateful for Brian taking the phone !!!! & taking us to the office .. They immediately separated us that was a good thing .. We then met with David Of course our son is & was angry .. But we have complete confidence in David Gates & the program .. In fact our son was acting like a 5 year old & refusing to give me a hug .. David in his stern voice said .. ""give your mom a hug"" he reluctantly did .. I thank The Lord everyday for David Gates & Northbound .. David & Brian are obviously dedicated to helping addicts on the path to recovery...our son will NEVER be able to pull his games on David .. & I have complete confidence that he chose a counselor that our son also will NOT be able to bullshit .. I don't care if our son is mad at us .. In a year from now he'll thank us .. We're looking forward to our first family session in February ... I have high hopes that our son will finally stop lying because now he has a councilor that he will not buy in to his B.S. We looked at a lot of treatment facilities before deciding on Northbound. We were concerned about choosing the wrong facility that would end up having a negative effect on our child and waste a lot of time and money. In short, here's a few of the reasons that impacted our decision to go with NTS: a) Great reputation. We kept hearing really good things about their staff and program b) Faith based options. We liked that this was an option for the clients that wanted to integrate their faith into the treatment. It should be noted that this is an option and they absolutely do NOT cram this down anyone's throat. c) Caring staff. I can not even begin to adequately express how cared for our child has been and how cared for we have felt as parents. There are some beautiful people working here. Kristen, Kellie, Jaana & William are just a few of the staff that have gone above and beyond the call of duty. They are genuine, caring, beautiful people that have exhibited amazing compassion and fortitude in our situation. d) Drug treatment but also life issues. Their counseling beyond just getting people off addiction is fantastic. They are focused on everything from past trauma to codependent relationships to self-esteem issues and much more. They work hard to help their clients make life changes that go way beyond just addiction. The tools they teach will help out in all areas of life. e) Program length. They don't encourage a "quick fix" and how the average client stays on and graduates to higher levels. They have everything from inpatient to outpatient to working with soberliving houses and much more. The clients can keep progressing from doing treatment and then integrating school and/or jobs as they progress in their treatment. It's not just a quick one-size-fits-all quickie treatment and then the clients are cut loose. f) Facilities & program. The homes where the clients live are super clean, modern and in great neighborhoods. The group sessions are in a discreet business park and they keep everyone pretty busy. They even integrate exercise and lots of organized recreational activities as well. g) Insurance. These guys are really great at working with your insurance company. If you're reading this then you're most likely intensely searching for an answer and I can only imagine the hurt, fear and heartbreak you've gone through. If nothing else I would strongly suggest giving William Walker at NTS a call and talking over all your concerns. I know you'll be glad you did. He was so gentle and empathetic that I felt very cared for immediately. William is not pushy and will genuinely talk to you about what they offer and if NTS is a good fit for you. Hi, I am so excited to tell a little of my story. I've had a terrible drug addiction since about the age of 12, I'm originally from Williamsburg Virginia, and have moved constantly around the States to try and start new. In 2015 I came to California from Colorado after a long struggle with hard drugs. Since then I have been in and out of multiple rehabs and nothing seemed to work. I came to northbound completely broken and super angry. I've been with their program since March the 29th of 2016, I can finally call my mother and father and let them hear my voice and hear how happy I am today. I don't have to wake up anymore wandering how to get high and be ok. Because of northbound I've finally learned to love myself and just be happy again. If you or a loved one have a drug addiction problem and alcohol is a drug by the way then definitely check out Northbound in southern California. I had pretty much cheated death multiple times, alot of times god doesn't give second chances. My mom's birthday is coming up and I'll be able to send her flowers, something I could never have done without northbound pushing me to excel through life. I thank God for northbound, there program is wonderful, they even take me to a professional recording studio to pursue my music passion. Because of Northbound my life is looking out on the good side for me. They help you find sponsors, and groups are awesome and fun. We go to the beach, and paint balling, also hikes. Northbound was the only play I had to go for addiction treatment. I was so lost and completely scared of the future. I knew that if I didn't get help immediately, I would end up homeless and jobless. I found an amazing community and Northbound. I learned so much about myself and had such great support there. I am still in contact with many of them 3 1/2 years later. Do not use this company. They keep you in detox for days when it is not medically necessary. The bill more for detox. Detox is coed and It is dirty. The food is terrible. They drug test you in lock down detox at over $1000.00 per test even when you are there voluntarily for alcohol addiction. They do not return phone calls. You are farmed out to dirty houses after detox and shuttle you around in a bus. If you want to get sober don't go here. read more
