Over the summer I took two of my female cats to get spayed at the Northeast Veterinary Hospital and did not care for Dr. Cecily or her practice at all. I will not be bringing my pets back, and I will advise my family and friends to take their pets elsewhere. When calling to set up their surgery I was told they would need to come in for a pre-op appointment so that the vet could make sure they were well enough to undergo anesthesia. I was told this was simply a formality and the vet mainly checks vitals. I asked if it was ok to continue letting them go outside in the meantime. My two cats had each had a litter of kittens a few weeks prior and the receptionist told me that I could let both my cats outside because they could not get pregnant until 6 weeks postpartum. At their pre-op appointment I was then told by the vet that they could indeed get pregnant as soon as 2 weeks postpartum and she seemed to dismiss the fact that her staff had stated otherwise. I was told that I should have been keeping them inside if I was trying to keep them from getting pregnant again, and the vet just looked at me during this whole conversation like I was crazy. I was then given a list of tests, vaccines, medications, etc. that they wanted to give my pets and the grand total came out to over $1,000 for both. When asked if this price included their surgery the vet just laughed and said "of course it does not, that is separate." I was told that this was just a quick visit to check their vitals so I was confused as to why they were trying to sell me unnecessary tests and medications. They were very pushy and insistent that what they were offering was highly recommended and if I loved my pets and cared for their health I needed to agree to anything they wanted to do. It seemed like they cared more about the money rather than the health and safety of animals. The vet even reprimanded me for declining a vaccine she felt all outdoor cats should receive and told me that if I didn't comply my pets would get sick and die. I was also asked if the vet could abort if during surgery she discovered my cats were pregnant. I was not given an option other than termination, so I asked if there would be any health risks to either my cat or potential kittens and was told no so I declined abortion. The vet then did a huffy breath and said to me, "Well, you already have 2 litters, do you really want more? You have enough cats, you DON'T need any more." I replied that while I did not want any more pets at the moment I did not believe that termination was the right choice for me and my situation and I would take full responsibility for any kittens and finding them homes if necessary. Her response was that she is against abortion in humans because humans have souls, but animals are different and do not have souls but will be in heaven with us if we truly need them and God sees that. You just manifest them or something. What the heck, lady. I had to really insist that I would not be ok with termination and if my cats were pregnant I did not want to go forward with spaying them. I ended up stopping by a few days later to make sure they had that correct as I did not sign paper work stating my wishes. I'm so glad I did because they had it written down as I was ok with aborting potential kittens because "I already had enough pets." I finally had to say the day of surgery that I was ADAMANT that I did not want to terminate a pregnancy under any circumstances and they finally understood. When I signed the papers/waivers for surgery I made sure that I was very clear about my wishes for post-surgery. I agreed to anti nausea medication if needed, but was not ok with anything else. The vet tech and I agreed that they should wait to eat until they were home and if they wanted to give them food there then they needed to call first. If they did not call and get my verbal consent then they were NOT allowed to give either of my pets ANY food or medication. What did they do post surgery you ask? They both fed my cats and gave one medication without my permission. To clarify, I am not mad that they fed my cats, just irritated that they did not ask first as I am picky about what they eat and not every cat food we have tried has agreed with them. I am, however, furious that they gave my cat a non emergency medication that they did not have permission to give her. Unacceptable. The vet was fully aware of my concerns with reactions, mixing meds, over medicating my 6 lbs cat, and the written request for verbal consent before giving my cats anything and yet did what she wanted. That is in no way, shape or form ok. Overall, my experience as a whole with this office was terrible. Other than the vet techs I had, who were all very nice, I was not impressed with the office. The vet was rude, dismissive, and had an entitled attitude. I felt as though I was getting below average care and service for a hefty price. I will not be returning. read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE! Worst experience ever at a veterinarian! They misdiagnosed my Maine Coon kittens' congenital lung condition as conjunctivitis with acute respiratory virus. After several visits due to declining condition and 2 weeks later, they finally decide to do blood work and diagnostics, all the while, me being very leery of the lackadaisical care my kitten was receiving. (I had to ask them to weigh her on each visit, Dr. D. said her breathing sounded normal, how can breathing sound normal when both of her lungs were mostly collapsed????) Dr. D. wanted me to hospitalize the kitten with them, pick kitten up at closing time, take her to An Emerge in Gainesville for overnight hospitalization, then return to Gainesville in the AM for pick up of kitten, bring her back to Northeast Veterinary for the next day for hospitalization.......... How absurd is that???? I immediately asked for a referral to a specialist vet clinic or UGA small animal hospital so I would only be dealing with one facility. Dr. D said she would get the referral done for me. Well, that did not happen. The front desk personnel at Northeast vet told me they didn't need to do a referral, that all I needed to do was to go through emergency at UGA Small Animal Hospital. I have been to UGA small animal hospital many times and I knew this was not the protocol. I immediately pull out my cell phone and call UGA, and sure enough, a referral is required for admittance. The office manager at NEVH reluctantly speaks to them and gives them the info needed for admittance. I had to call these staff members out on the carpet before they would give a referral! All I received was misdiagnosis, hassle, and uncaring attitudes from the staff at Northeast Veterinary. Had NEVH done their job early on, maybe my kitten would have had a chance. The staff also did not make any post visit calls to find out how the kitten was doing. All other veterinarians, even specialist veterinarians that I have used make follow-up calls. ZERO URGENCY, ZERO COMPASSION, MEGA-HASSLE, AND MISDIAGNOSIS! read more

last week I brought my 1 year old dog, Charlie Brown for help. He had been limping which subsided at home and then reappeared with massive and quick swelling of his thigh. All the vets wanted to talk about with me was MONEY. I had to NEGOTIATE to get him help. the first estimate they gave me was over $1100.00. Then they called me back and forth as we negotiated the price down to $514.00 for X-rays and HALF A DOSE of antibiotics. NOT EVEN A FULL DOSE. They spent over 4 hours with my dog. mostly calling me back and forth negotiating price. which is disgusting. instead of actually finding out what was wrong with Charlie. They did the xrays, said nothing was wrong. Said they punctured it and nothing discharged. They sent us home. Made me pay $514.00. He got worse. The Lavonia Animal hospital on Monday and they did more X-rays. Could see a mass. Punctured it to see if it was an infection and diagnosed a blood tumor. They actually cared and showed us the tumor. Never talked price and offered to put him down for free. I WILL NEVER GO BACK HERE. ALL THEY CARED ABOUT WAS BLEEDING OUR POCKETS DRY INSTEAD OF OUR DOG THAT WAS INTERNALLY BLEEDING OUT. read more

Not only do they take the best care of my animals when they are there, they call when they aren't to check up on them to see how they are doing!! One of my babies passed over the rainbow bridge about a mont ago and These guys stayed up all hours of the night to try to save him and make him comfortable! After he passed, the whole office wrote notes on a card and sent it to me!! My Klinger LOVED going to the vet and this says it all right there!! Not too many doggies love the vet!! Look at the name of the street this vet is on......Pet Care Place! That's says it all. I used to go to their competitor but no longer. Everyone here is so pleasant and really cares and loves the animals who come in for any sort of visit. I had an injured kitten who had a stinky little hole in his side from I don't know what and it needed to be cut open and cleaned. This vet did a wonderful job; there is not even a scar left behind and it was a BIG opening which had to be made to get it cleaned out. Most recently, I had another cat who seemed to be having a stroke or something in my driveway and I called NEVH to let them know I was rushing up the mountain to bring her to them. Not a problem. But, sadly, when I arrived I noticed she had died in the car, in her carrier. :'( I went in and told them, in a full blown crying spell, they consoled me, and I went home to go bury my little baby. Everyone from the front desk on the phone and in person are just as nice as they can be, and they animals seem to love them too; no nervous shaking from any of the pets I have brought in.....unlike, once again, other places. read more

Last year, we had to bring in our beloved pit bull who had been involved in a horrific attack by one of our other dogs. Sadly, she was so badly injured, we had very little choice but to have her put down. (It appeared that she just rolled over and took the attack). My husband and I then had to decide what to do with the "killer" dog. After discussing options with the vet, we were advised to think it over. (Our knee-jerk reaction was to put her down as well too). Neither of us wanted to make any decisions out of anger or fear. It was finally decided that we would spare her unless she showed any additional aggression. As it turned out, it was exactly as the veterinarian had said might have possibly triggered the attack and that it was misdirected aggression. We have since removed her trigger from close proximity (her trigger is pigs) and she remains the gentle, loving, family pet that we very much love and haven't had an issue since. The staff at this facility is extremely compassionate, very professional, knowledgeable, and thoughtful. Though I wish we never had to meet the staff at NEVH under the circumstances we were in, I am thankful that they got us right in, treated our baby as quickly as possible, and ultimately, ended her suffering in the most compassionate way. read more

I met Dr. Cecily by accident when our Murphy had a heart attack and we lost her. Our vet no longer offered emergency service at the location near us and, it was a 25 minutes drive to their other location. I had my son drive us to NEVH 5 minutes from our home. We lost our baby but, Dr. Cecily and her staff could not have done more or been more compassionate. Our lost baby led us to our Marley, a rumpy with Spina Bifida. Dr. Cecily is his doctor, she guides us in his care and is so wonderful to our little man. He has special needs and she is more than equal to the task. The entire staff of NEVH are kind, loving people. They are never to busy to help and there isn't a vet in North Georgia that has the depth of services and talent that the doctors at NEVH. The hospital atmosphere is clean and inviting. Marley doesn't mind his frequent visits at all and never gets anxious while there. We wanted the best for our special boy and we got it! read more

I do not recommend this hospital. I found a rabbit hit by a car. I was able to keep it alive almost a week at home by syringe feeding it. The area wildlife rehab person said to find a vet to get it some antibotics cause it had lost its eyesight in one eye. But I was unable to find a vet that sees rabbits. But NEVH agreed to. The first red flag was they would not allow me to go back with the rabbit, they did the exam without me. While in the waiting room I saw them quote a lady it would be $80 to be seen but then went to $45. She had an appt but they were telling her the assistant could see the dog, but to see the doctor it cost more. After awhile I was asked to come in a room. I was told the rabbit had old injuries too and it was best to put it to sleep because its quality of life would be limited. I agreed. They ask me to sign a ton of papers, but no price was mentioned. I finally said I would like to know the price they said it would be around $80. They finally came with a paper asking me about how I wanted to bury it. First off, its a wild rabbit not my pet. They ask me about cremation or a burial box. I told them they could dispose of it that it wasn't a pet. Then the vet said its too hard to find a rabbit's vein to give it meds so it needed to be put under anesthesia and then put to sleep. I assumed that was correct. So they took it away to proceed. I was then told they would mail me a bill but I felt like I needed to go ahead and pay it so there was no extra bills added on. When I ask to pay the secretary had to get another assistant to look at her screen, I heard her say "Is that right?". She said the bill will be $87 so I signed the paper. Then the vet called upfront said something on the phone, the secretary said okay I will add that. Then she said "I am so sorry but its actually $155. Because they charged me $67 to cremate it. I told her I didn't need that at all. She said "you have to I can't take the charge off there is no other option". At this point I was already upset about the rabbit, and tired from a long 8 hr day at work. I paid and left. Since I spoke to a friend that works for a vet hospital far away. She said that they can give them sedating meds to knock them out not needing a vein. Then they just give another dose til their heart stops but there is no need to go thru anesthesia. She also said most vets will put down wild animals found on the road like this one for free. She was appauled they would charge that much when it wasn't a pet and then say I had to cremate it after the fact. So I don't recommend them to anyone. They seem to be all about the money, and finding ways to get you confused in order to get the money. read more
