Do not do business with Northern Energy...they are esentially Amerigas and acts like big corporate. They will charge you double (as they did us) and make you wait a month in the middle of winder (requiring you to operate on fumes) which they did around the holidays. They won't apologize or make concessions...so own your tank and choose to go somewhere ese. read more

First, the phone contact answering is the worst I've experienced. Next they quoted $1 a gallon higher than Ed Staub. Third, they quoted $70 to come to my home to look at new service. No comment about service, simply about price. I've used Northern Energy since 2004. Over the past few years, I noticed the cost for filling my residential propane tank was getting very high, but I assumed that was just rising market prices. My last two tank fill-ups were billed at $4.85 PER GALLON plus $17 in "Hazmat" and "Fuel Recovery Cost" fees ---whatever they are for. After a few recent phone calls I realized that I was paying Northern Energy more than double the price charged by other Central Oregon vendors, so I switched suppliers. Now paying $2.09 PER GALLON, with no Hazmat or Fuel recovery fees tacked on. This is not just a "somewhat better" deal. This is 43% of the price I was paying Northern Energy. Be Aware: I once did business with Northen Energy Propane and would have continued to do so... I needed another propane tank and they did not want to do the job. I called a few other companies and Ed Staub amicably agreed to do the job at a competitive price. I compared the price of the propane from each company (because I own my first tank and am free to shop) and found out that "Amerigas" aka Northern Engery Propane had been charging about TWICE as much as the competition. I had been a customer with them for 21 years and was concerned. I gave them a call to question why they wouldn't do another job for me, installing a second tank and servicing it, and why they charged me double or more than the competition does? This added up to thousands (!!) over the years. I also wanted to pay my, never had been behind in payment, final bill with them... but (hold on) would consider continuing doing business with them if they were to 1. lower the price to what the competition charges 2. give me a credit for some of the RIDICULOUSLY EXCESSIVE OVERCHARGING. Their response was incredulous: They told me that they had held a meeting about me a day or two earlier and decided to let me go as a customer... they just hadn't called to inform me! I called Northern today 1/31/17 (short wait, but they answered) and they (still) currently charge close to double! Northern $3.85 - $4.00 per gallon Ed Staub $2.25 per gallon PLEASE contact Ed Staub if you need any propane tanks or servicing or propane deliveries. Tell them I sent you. No, I don't work for them. At least do yourself a favor and get competitive bids for everything related to this type of utility. Learn from me. Read reviews, Yelp or otherwise. Shop wisely! Special note to Cynthia B. who had trouble getting them to return a phone call. You may be able to call a different company and get delivery in case of this (no fuel to heat your home) emergency. Just give them 24 hours notice that you're going to do so, so you cannot get cut off from the contract. Northern always returned the phone calls or even answered the phone especially if I was calling to pay my bill. Small wonder. read more

By far the worst customer service and prices on propane in the central Oregon area!! I finally got around to switching companies from northern energy (which was taken over several years ago by AmeriGas) to Ed Staub and Sons... The price when I switched was $3.64 a gallon with northern energy and $2.59 a gallon with Ed Staub and sons!!!! If you're looking for a propane company look elsewhere, if you are currently with northern energy run as fast as you can and switch today!! read more

This company is now called Amerigas because a large corporation took it over. Ever since they switched things have become very shady. If you try to question anything they give you the biggest unbelievable runaround that can frustrate the heck out of you where you want to rip your hair out. My husband called and found out if you call for a refill they charge 8$ for the phone call and give you an outrageous price. So first you're supposed to go online and for a refill and if you want to adjust the price you have to call in and ask for it to be adjusted? No one informed us at all of this and I'm sure many many customers DON'T know this and are being bilked. Every time my husband calls the corporate office they go round and round and won't give any answers and unless you are EXTREMELY persistent can you peel back their excuses- layers and layers of lies. These people have obviously been been trained how to block the customers from the truth. Now they claim they have closed the local offices so you can't talk to anyone locally. This is one of the biggest scams by large corporations we've ever dealt with. And they've got you totally cornered as to have your tank removed it costs a fortune. We plan on contacting the BBB! We bought the house with their service and tank. This is shameful! read more

This company is a ripoff. They over charged me fo propane and have the worst customer service!

This Central Oregon crew is all about professionalism and great customer service. When we thought we had a leak from the bulk tank they responded immediately despite the heavy snow storm in progress. Northern Energy took over the servicing of our new home shortly after we moved in, made sure everything was in great shape, safe and sound. When a paving contractor damaged the main line in to the house they were there quickly and made timely repairs. I especially appreciate the recognition of active duty military veterans through their discounts to those groups. read more

Terrible Customer Service. The lady answering the phone has a real chip on her shoulder and is very controlling and nasty during a call. She will make you wait much longer than necessary for a simple answer. Shop around if you can. If they cared about their Customers they would never have reps like that working for them. read more

Horrible service!! I can't believe I didn't check around for another service sooner. They charge OVER twice a s much as Ed Staub and their algorithm for anticipating when to automatically fill has failed 3 years in a row. We run out of propane the SAME week every year. Service is great but prices are ridiculously out of line with other providers in the area. I was recently charged $4.15 per gallon. When I called two other central Oregon propane providers their prices were $2.24 and $2.20 (regular every day rates). When Northern Energy was asked about this discrepancy they said they could lower my rate to just over $3 if I went and some sort of payment plan (which sounded like what I was already doing); why not tell me that 3 years ago when I signed up!?! The problem is that rate is still about 50% above the going rate! Shame on me for not being more observant with my bill, but shame on Northern Energy for ripping people off! How many elderly people on fixed incomes are being taken to the cleaners because they don't know any better? read more

This is partly about the local business, and partly about the telepay system. I have dealt with Northern Energy in Yakima, Wa., and Redmond. I understand they are separate companies, under the same flag. Both have been very satisfactory and even better in my experience. Always pleased. Today I opened my statement and found that I owed a small balance, and decided to pay it immediately by phone. First, I was subjected to "THE MENU"! I could pull off the road, and go into the local office to pay my bill faster than I can get through that. It took me at least 8 calls to get this done. The first 3 or 4 didn't give me enough time to enter my account number accurately. Then it wouldn't accept my debit card number. Finally, I figured that "electronic check" was the option I wanted instead of "Debit card", or whatever the terminology was. I ended up giving my routing and checking account numbers and after all that I finally paid my $4.27 bill! I am not new to phone payment, and have paid most of my bills that way for many years. The terminology I am accustomed to is used differently in this system. Also, included with my statement was a piece entitled "Reading Your Invoice, Made Easy...". If you have to enclose something like this, your statement form is unnecessarily complicated and includes extranious information. Not a happy customer, and I suppose I don't get the $25 credit. I can live with that, and I think I'll go back to stopping by the office and paying my bill in person. Much easier and less frustrating. But, the local people are a pleasure to deal with. read more

I do not recommend doing business with this company. I requested a quote to install new service but they said I would have to set up an account first and be billed for the estimate. I've never heard of paying for a quote! Pass on this!! read more

They are horrible to deal with. They charged me 80 cents a gallon more than my neighbor just paid and when I called them out on it they said so sorry nothing we can do. There are much better options and do your homework before you deal with this company as they are the worst and will price gouge you any chance they get. read more

UNACEPTABLE! Called every week for 3 weeks for delivery of 150 gal. They charged OVER TWICE the price per gallon then Co-Energy delivered price for150 to a friend the next day. Neither were on a special program, same area of town. And N.E.'s fees were $30 more then Co.E's. DO NOT USE THEM! Think, $300 or $700? You decide if it's worth it. read more

Hired this company for one of my clients (I am a contractor) and asked on four separate occasions for an invoice to be sent to me, not the service address where the work was being done. I told both secretaries answering the phones, one who assured me that the proper information was on the work order for the day and then again confirmed with the service tech the morning of to send the invoice to my email, not the client's address. Could not have been more crystal clear. As you can guess Northern Energy did not follow my wishes and sent the invoice to the service address. My client was very confused when the invoice showed as this part of the project was contracted in my bid to do. Ended up costing my business about $600. Upon hearing this news, I called back and asked for some insight from a manager or even the owner to explain to me how this could have happened when I took every measure to make sure this invoicing was done correctly. The woman answering the phone simply laughed at me and said, "Um, yeah I'll look into that....." in about the rudest tone I can think of, then she hung up. This was about a month ago, and I still haven't received any type of response or apology from management. I have never left a negative review for a company in my life. The way that this company conducted themselves during this whole process was surprising, to say the least. I will go out of my way to make sure I never recommend this company and will sending all future work to their competition. You have done a perfect job at fully dissatisfying your customer. read more
