We're in the process of selecting new patio furniture. It is easier choosing a house, my hubby suggested last week.. Perhaps. Perhaps. One thing that made the process simpler in the last couple of days was stopping in at Fireside and meeting Hap. He says he's not a good salesperson, but truly he is! Personable, knowledgeable about the product lines they carry, very helpful at pulling additional items out of the warehouse on site and top notch with follow through. As in getting a cost estimate to us via email before we could even make the ten minute drive home. Well done. If Hap's not in, and we recommend him, all of the staff at Fireside are very friendly and helpful. Round of applause all around. If they don't have the item on premises that you're looking for from manufacturers they carry, they'll order it for you. And prices at Fireside are reasonable, inventory is discounted off of MSRP plus they offer additional sales from time to time. They offer discounts on special orders too. And free delivery within a big radius of miles from the store to boot! The thing that keeps this review from being a little shy of five stars is very simply that as a small store they have a limited number of patio furniture to see on premise and only carry a couple of brands. Good brands they are though, like Summer Classics and Telescope, so thumbs up for that. If shopping for patio furniture is such a good experience here, imagine how great it could be to shop for fireplaces, gas barbecues and spas, all of which are part of their mainline business. Ordering the furniture in store and delivery were quick. I probably received the furniture within a couple days. However I didn't receive one of the end tables I bought and instead received a call saying someone decided not to deliver me the table because it had scratches (you could barely see these scratches, maybe in some lights/reflections). Fireside made it sound like it was just going to be a few days to repair the table. So I end up calling every 3 weeks... finally after 2 months they said they got the paint and will call me within 2 weeks. Never got a call in those 2 weeks. Call again and was told they did it but he wanted to make sure so he asked to call me right back. Didn't call me back so I went there after an hour and the table was wet with paint like they just did it. .... Hard to say if I'll be back read more

I've just had the most wonderful experience on a day where I was pretty convinced that nothing was going to go right. Today, we lost the house we were supposed to have being built in the Three Rivers area because of an unscrupulous builder and his real estate agent. Earlier in the year, we had talked to many different fireplace stores and decided to purchase a brand new Lopi propane free standing stove from Fireside of Bend. We dealt with a gentleman by the name of Hap Blackmer. He was fabulous. He helped us pick out the exact stove for our brand new home. There was no pressure or upsale tactics. Just a nice honest businessman. In fact everyone we have dealt with at Fireside, including, sales, accounting, and installers has given excellent service. At our request, they agreed to hold the stove at their store on layaway until it was ready to be installed. I put $2,000 down and agreed to make payments on it over the summer. Today I had to call Hap and tell him we would not be able to purchase the stove after all because our builder backed out of the deal. Hap immediately said there was no problem. Fireside would issue us a check for a full refund for the money we had paid so far. I am happy to say that I wasn't prepared for such kindness, in fact I was stunned. If you ever need a beautiful stove or fireplace, please take my recommendation and invest your $$$ with a store that maintains a 5-star reputation for customer service. Just plan rude! Just like many home build businesses and contractor services in Bend...too much demand allows you to treat customers poorly. I wish everyone would stop doing renovations so these companies and contractors would realize how they should be treating paying customers instead of like an annoyance. I was torn between giving Fireside 3 or 4 stars but I most definitely did not have a 5 star experience. Unfortunately Fireside has the exclusive sales contract in the area with Marquis Spas. Hap is a very good salesman (informative, enthusiastic, etc.) but that appears to be where his customer service ends. I think he assumes that everyone who walks in the door must know all about buying/installing a new hot tub. Despite making a big deal about "installation" being included in the price, he failed to mention that their crew doesn't actually connect the hot tub they just "install" it which actually means DELIVERY. If I hadn't called to ask a random question I wouldn't have known this. Despite my being very specific about the fact that the hot tub would be built in to our new deck he never once mentioning this could be a problem. Fast forward a couple of weeks after I paid and ordered the hot tub Hap had some kind of epiphany and had to send his installation team back out for a pre delivery visit because he suddenly thinks they may not be able to get the hot tub in to the space! Luckily my deck builder (who also sells/maintains hot tubs) was awesome and made sure that everything went smoothly and not only facilitated the "installation" but connected, filled and got my new hot tub up and running. After not getting calls/emails returned from Hap, his colleague Seth was very helpful so kudos to Seth. We do like our new Marquis hot tub. We would tell them this if they had made a follow up call after the install. This is another example of Hap's lack of post sale customer service, sadly it reflects on Fireside as a whole. read more

If it's possible to go elsewhere for hot tub supplies or a firplace do so. I ordered a fireplace, they took my check, ~$3200.00. 2 weeks later I called to check on the status. They had no idea who I was or what I ordered. I reminded them who I was and they asked me if I had paid the deposit? I thought really is that the best you can do after you screwed up and forgot to order my stove? Then I remembered that one week after my order I sent them photos of the install location to which the responded it was all set and they were just waiting for delivery. Idiots. I like the stove but I am ready to take my business anywhere else. Is this the best we can do in Central Oregon? read more

Their sales guy Seth seems honest and fair, but unable to overcome the overall misleading and clueless management team. They change prices, slip in add-ons and treat customers with distain. Their install fee is $585- for jobs that take less than 2 hours. The initial estimate was $200. I found out they actually charged my cc $755 when the statement came. I really can't say enough about the excellent experience I had with Fireside. The salesman was no pressure, very knowledgeable, and gave good advice about size and placement of the wood stove I bought. It really is perfect for my situation. The installation guys were both very professional and friendly. The only downside I found is that they didn't clean up well when the left. I'm picky about that, though. Other than that it is a very clean installation. When the county inspector came he said that often times he will call Fireside to see if they know something he doesn't with regard to equipment and clearances. We were in the market for a wood stove. Went to the other place in town and even though there was a person sitting at the front desk, we were ignored the whole time we were in the store. Then went to Fireside where Seth immediately greeted us. Took us around the store and answered my many, many questions. We were newbies re all things wood stove, but he had patience with us. We bought from him, and he even answered several questions after the sale. My only disappointment with Fireside was the installation date person. Trying to get her to give us an approx date was tough [radio silence], then she said it would be a month, and then she called to say it would be ready in a few days. So, it was installed faster than we expected [and the installation guy was great, and he too answered our many questions], but I don't like it when service people don't call you back. read more

Fireside tries to rip off its high end fireplace customers, possibly because they think that people who pay that much don't pay attention to cost. We purchased an Ortal 130 TS for about $14k (yes, that might be the cost of 3 high end fireplaces!) from Fireside because they were the exclusive dealer and had installed a few. They've implemented an "installation" charge based on cost of fireplace, not the actual job of installing. As such, they wanted to charge me $2500 to perform the essentially same work as they charge $685 for other fireplaces (wall vent complete install; ~$725 for roof vent): Trip 1: deliver fireplace to house on pallet. Trip 2: roll fireplace into room (single story house, minimal threshold) and lift onto provided blocks; screw leg brackets onto blocks. Install coax 5"/8" pipe about 8ft above to horizontal vent. Under 1.5 hours total from arrival to departure. Trip 3: connect gas line to provided stub; remove and clean glass, add media (lava pebbles). Replace glass and start up. I was led to believe that this high end fireplace (Ortal 130 TS, screen) was a beast to install, and since I had never installed one before, was not able to argue. I felt I didn't have a choice on the fireplace itself, but I was still reticent to pay that much for the installation since I knew that typical installs were much less. To get things moving forward, We agreed based on the understanding that we would review the actual work and cost when we got into it. It became clear that the challenge was not on Fireside's plate, but mine to create the special enclosure to handle the heat output. Fireside's job was ROUTINE. After getting through Trip 2 (above), we sat down with Jerry the general manager to have a reality check on charges and to ask them to bring their installation pricing back into what was reflected in the actual work. This was a real eye-opener to see how Fireside can treat their customers. Jerry immediately launched into attack mode to get us on the defensive, attacking our character for trying to "change the terms of our agreement", calling me a liar, asking if I was calling his salesmen liars, etc. This was barely into our "discussion." My wife was mortified by the early exchange, and literally did not say one word afterwards. He was trying to nitpick and twist whatever I had to say, and argue minutiae to position us as the bad guys. He was astounded that I recorded the time it took for the install... he wondered aloud if we would've been happier if he sent some newbie guys who might've taken longer and done a poor job!? He talked about how we shouldn't even be discussing installation cost because they were the honest guys who itemize the installation cost, and claimed the "other guys" don't. After 30 minutes of this, it became clear that Fireside had no interest in doing the right thing, and I decided to cut my losses. I told them to skip Trip 3, I would do that work myself and we would pay only half of the install cost. Note 1. Alan the salesman asked the installers to review their effort on Trip 1; they found the work to be easier than expected and reduced the install price from $2500 to $2200. Note 2. I performed the install work for Trip 3 and found it to be straightforward and routine, for someone who has never done this kind of thing before. Again validating my assertion that Fireside was simply gouging its high end customers for a routine install. Note 3. The standard wall vent cap for our 5"/8" coax system is huge, 16" x 16" (!). We expressed our strong dislike and concern that this was going to be a major eyesore on our front wall (roof vent was not possible). We were offered no smaller options. Alan the salesman even brought one out for us to inspect. We spent a lot of time trying to figure out how we were going to hide the hideous thing. Weeks later, we found out that there is one that is 50% smaller, and is approved for use on our fireplace. Fortunately, we found out just in time to delay the install to order the smaller vent cap and corresponding smaller thimble (wall pass-thru). This was a bad experience and I would urge anyone reading this to do their homework. We paid $1100 for 2 service technicians to spend 1.5 hours to install 8 feet of vent pipe and wall cap! These are the highlights, there was much more aggravation that I've left out of this already overly long review. I would never to use Fireside again and would do everything I could to find an alternative. Jerry the general manager was intentionally aggressive and protective of their "new found income stream"... but hopefully they will not get away with it now that you've been warned! read more

These guys are the best! As the weather turned cool, I needed service on my fireplace. It was serviced by another in town, not to be named company who sent out a quintessential used car salesman who did a bit of service and told me the whole thing needed to be replaced. Wanted a second opinion, so when I got a sale flyer from Fireside, I called them. They installed the fireplace approx. 20 yrs ago; didn't know that at the time. Due to the dire doom warnings from the used car salesman, they wanted to check it out from a safety perspective, and - wait for it - it's a great unit. It will need to be replaced at some unknown future time, but not now. Thank you Adam and Fireside for being honest, providing great service, and coming to the rescue. I initially gave them one star but the people that showed up at my house, installers and service tech, were 5 star service, Jacob even came back on his day off, so that raised it to a 3. Felt ignored when my new stove did not work and was first quoted 2 weeks for a repair. Getting the repair down to one week, I called the day before to get some reassurance that it was not going to be a "oh its this part and we don't carry that part in stock" situation, so I asked to speak with a manager. They said that they were not available and I would get a call back. Around by late afternoon I got a call from the salesman who proceeded to do his best to placate me. I felt a little put off that I got called back not by a manager. Well, a week and a half later it is not working without some random shutoff. I was told by many employee's that this stove gives them problems. Why do you sell problematic stoves? So there is my 2 cents worth. TL:DR- Actual service at my house, very pleased. Product I bought, Quadra-Fire Classic Bay 1200, is junk. In store sales and support have room for improvement. read more

Although I took the lead, communication was good throughout the time it took to place order, have items manufactured, shipped and installed. Today, my husband, son, and I visited Fireside. We had been in a few months ago and got an estimate for a pellet stove. We had the estimate in hand and were ready to make a purchase. The same salesperson, Alan, was there who helped us on our previous visit. When we walked in, he was helping a customer. About 4-5 minutes later, he finished helping them and they left. We were the only customers in the store at that time. He proceeded to ignore us for almost 10 minutes. We were standing at the counter waiting. Again, we were the only customers in the store. At one point, he was even facing us and was reading some paperwork. It was as if we weren't even there. After almost 10 minutes of being ignored, we left, with no acknowledgement from the salesperson. It was extremely bizarre, as neither me nor my husband have ever experienced this in any other place of business. Fireside, you just lost an over $3,000 sale. read more

I would recommend against using Fireside. After shopping around in the summer of 2011 for components of an outdoor kitchen, I chose Fireside because they represented Napoleon and claimed to have installation experience with Napoleon products. - What a nightmare. Due to a measurement error which they blamed on an incorrect sales brochure, I had to expend considerably more funds than I had planned. While Fireside helped out with some of the additional expense, they did not meet my expectations. The owner was hostile to deal with. Now I understand why they want 75% down before they start. They want to get paid regardless of the outcome. read more

We recently purchased a Jotul propane stove from Fireside. Install went great, in and out in 1 1/2 hours. The install gents were awesome and my house was just as clean as before they got there. After they left, the stove went out and after my husband and I tried to figure out the problem to no avail, we decided to call the store. Jerry, the manager took the time to listen to our issue and had to do some research and would call us back, which he did. He was unable to resolve our issue over the phone, but our sales person Sue, who lives nearby, came over and spent an hour trying to resolve the igniter issue, which she diagnosed. She made some phone calls back to the shop to set up a technician to come out the next day. The next day, Jerry called and said that all the techs were swamped, but offered to come out to our home and take a look. Yay.....after over an hour, he was able to fix the problem and we are now nice and toasty warm. He called the next day to check and make sure we were happy, as did Sue our salesperson. I so appreciate the quick response and making us satisfied customers. I can't say enough about Jerry and Sue and the install guys. Think of Fireside first when purchasing a new stove....they are awesome. read more
