Buttermilk Fried Chicken (Battered Ontario Chicken Thighs, House Made Corn Bread, Yukon Gold Fries, Mango Habanero Hot Sauce). It's a big meal and I took most of it home. Gord had a Cheese and Charcuterie Board (Served with Crostini, Grainy Dijon Mustard, Pickled Veggies) with Local Prosciutto, Smoked Duck Prosciutto, Grana Padano (Quebec - Pasteurized Cow's Milk) and Gruyère (Switzerland - Unpasteurized Cow's Milk) and took some home. We came here for a break to our next destination. B got the Tulip Midnight drink. Northern Maverick Brewing is a craft brewery in Toronto. B said the drink was pretty good. It was not the best he had on the trip but it was definitely better than what you can get in Vancouver compared to all the craft breweries. You can taste the flavor in the beer and as well it was not hoppy tasting. The drink itself was very refreshing. Service was good. We've driven by this place multiple times so decided to pop in, had our pup with us so appreciate that it was a dog friendly patio- the server was super sweet and even brought her water. The portions are HUGE- we got the Mediterranean plated, the pitas were DELICIOUS, the hummus and babaganosh- decent. The TRUFFLE fries were soooo good! read more

Had dinner here with a very big group and they did a great job! The restaurant was pretty empty which was surprising for a Thursday night. We sat at the high top tables near the bar and our servers were great. The drinks were good. Lots of options there for both beer and cocktails. Most of the cocktails were about $18 but all looked great. They have a happy hour that looks good too! I'd likely check that out another time. I tried the fried chicken and it was really nice. It came with 3 sauces which were all good. The chicken was very crispy and tender. I was very impressed. Everyone else seemed happy with their meals as well. Overall, it's a good spot! read more

If you want to try a nice selection of beers, this is the place for you. However, if you're looking for good food this is not the spot. I like sour beer and was pleased with the selection available here on tap. Their drinks are fairly reasonably priced, and you can also get a flight if you want to try multiple flavours. I'm sad to say it, but the food was just awful. The pizza was dry and hard, and you can see in the photo it looks like they left it in the oven for too long as all the pepperoni was burnt to a crisp. The oyster bao was similarly dry, and extremely flavourless. The oyster was fried into a hard little nugget, and there was nothing to give the bao any flavour except the picked vegetables. Those carrots and radishes could not save the dish unfortunately. One of my friends wanted the Jamaican patty appetizer but the waiter kindly let us know that people are often disappointed in it because it is apparently minuscule in size. So it looks like most of their food is a disappointment! Anyway, that was nice of her to let us know, so we ordered the truffle fries instead which was pretty much the only decent food of the meal. The place earns stars for their drinks, and zero for the food. I was tempted to give 3 stars as the waitress was nice and took the time to explain each beer to us, but she also forgot to put in one of our friends' orders and we were all done eating by the time her food finally came. It happens! But I can't really give them another star for service. After this experience I *might* come back on a day where I'm only planning on getting drinks but I'll definitely not get dinner here again. read more

Great atmosphere at this restaurant. Large patio & easy to get to if you live in the area. There's a church right across the street & you can hear the bells ringing. I love the contrast of the old & new. I saw lots of people with dogs here outside of course, some families & lots of people 20s to 30s. Only a few seniors. I feel like this is the kind of place to see & be seen. Hubby & I came here for lunch with a friend. Hubby & friend have been here before. This is the first time for me. For appetizers we got the pakoras & friend got gazpacho. I can't eat the pakoras because of the seasonings. So I can't comment on how good they are. But hubby & friend really liked them. For main entree, I had the maverick burger. Burger had good flavour, a little smaller than I was expecting. The fries were over salted & were mediocre. We all shared the banana pancakes for dessert. I didn't like them much as they had so much cinnamon & nutmeg. Two flavours I don't enjoy much. But if you like those flavours you'll probably love them. I couldn't taste the bananas with all the cinnamon & nutmeg. As for service our waitstaff was Gala & a couple of other people helped our table too. I wasn't able to catch their names. But everyone was friendly & efficient. Decor outside is pretty simple. Metal chairs, some tables have an umbrella for the sun, tables were wood or composite with metal frames. Inside the steel theme continues with more glass accents. The larger washrooms are upstairs & clean. There's a single handicap washroom on the ground floor for those with mobility issues & that one is modern, spacious & clean as well. I'm not sure I would make a special trip downtown just to eat here. But if I was in the area I might come here again to try something different on their menu. I had the lamb shephard's pie, where the lamb was tender and the potatoes fluffy and the flavour profile was... as expected. I like the space that the Maverick offers. It's really open and welcoming. We had a nice booth that was close to the window and it was just wonderful lighting. We got a flight of beers to share - I'm not a fan of any beer but I always love to try. We got a meat and cheese board to share between 3 people and it was enough for us. We enjoyed everything. We also got some mains to share and it was definitely too much food for our hungry eyes (we took the rest home for later). I really liked the meat dish the most and had a great time. This was my first time here at Northern Maverick Brewing! The event was absolutely great! We were served small batches of 3 different kinds of beer throughout the time to taste and get a feeling of what they brew in house. Also you are given an extra token for a full drink of your choice. It was great to see fellow elite yelpers and also to meet some that I had met earlier.. felt like friends to be around! What a fun night - not to forget the food was coming through at regular intervals , the vegan pakoras were absolutely tasty (not too spicy) So is the turkey burger! After coming here for a Yelp event, decided to try it out with a group of my friends. We came on a Sunday evening - buck a shuck! So we each ordered 8 :) Also ordered the charcuterie board - we picked 2 cheese and the duck prosciutto. Thinly sliced, slightly salty and delicious. They have a few different options to choose from and the board comes with nuts and apple slices. Great to nibble on while drinking your beer. I had the Saison and it was just my kinda of beer - not too bitter/hoppy. Their beer/drinks menu is extensive - definitely something here for everyone. And their servers can also recommend great new beers to try. This is a HUGE place - great for large groups/parties. It can obviously get a bit noisy - but that's part of the fun! I have been walking past this place since it opened and avoiding it because I felt like it looked like a moxie's. I was totally wrong. Do yourself a favour and GO IN! It was such an amazing experience. We had Denise (ask for her and get in her section if she is working. She's on the balls , friendly, hilarious and so knowledgeable. Learn a lot about beer. Specifically how gose are made). We had this great server who highlighted all the great things to get. We each got a flight and we're not let down. I got - sour, ipa, gose and a wheat beer . They were all amazing. The pineapple/strawberry gose was mind blowing. Fruit but not sweet. The Hefeweizen was my favourite. Clove and banana flavours but I smelt rose which I loved. Destroyer, with its high percentage but fruity flavours made it dangerous but very drinkable. Citrus, mango and pineapple are a great combination. We also got the wings and ceviche. This is an excellent brewery located on the western edge of downtown TO. The menu offers some interesting options and the beer selection is quite good. The atmosphere, while predictably a bit loud, allows for a pleasant dining experience nonetheless. There were nine of us and we thought it wise to call ahead for reservations. The dining area was so spacious that they might have been able to accommodate us without advanced notice, even though it was somewhat busy. But they were ready for our group when we walked in, which made things easier and more organized. The dining area was sprawling and the decor was well conceived. It was a cold winter night and this was one of those places that had a warm, inviting feel. Our server attended to us right away and did a fabulous job taking care of us during our visit. The choices were varied and our group tried several things. We started with a charcuterie board which featured several nicely done meats. My favorite was the duck prosciutto. We also tried the Squash Ricotta Cakes, which were quite tasty. On my end of the table, the mains that were sampled included the fish tacos, the ribs and the fried chicken. All received good reviews. I had the trout, which was superbly done. I am not a beer drinker but my colleagues who tried it commented that their offerings were a little heavy on the citrus. Overall, I think they were happy enough but I'm sure that would depend on one's fondness for such varieties. The most interesting edible of the night was the dessert. They offered a soft-serve maple ice cream with a maple bacon syrup topping. The topping was laden with chopped bacon and made a wonderfully unique finisher for those who are bacon fans. I did not see the bill so I was not aware of the final cost. However, mains ranged from from about $15 to $25. I would guess that the final total including tax and tip was between $45 and $50 per person. For the quality of the experience, I'm not going to complain. This establishment is near our Canadian office. It makes a great place for a business dinner so I'm sure I'll be visiting again. Last night I made my 1st visit with a friend of mine for a social Event with a beer lovers Group that I helped organize in the past. Our Group had a reservation and due to our expected numbers the venue put us on their fairly small 2nd floor - which is their private Event space - with a separate bar, bartender and server. As we did at 2 other venues earlier, my friend and I decided to share a beer and we chose their Barlie Brown, a brown ale which we both agreed was quite good. I didn't order anything to eat while there so can't really comment on their food but as the Brewery isn't far from where I live I hope to make it back there fairly soon for either a meal or a snack (and more beer). The person in our Group who organized the Event arranged for us to have a tour of the Brewery awhile after we arrived, which was a quite informative experience provided by a quite friendly member of their Brewing Team. The entire venue has a fairly upscale appearance - especially for a Brewery - and is quite spacious overall, although as I previously mentioned their 2nd floor private space is small. Their service appeared to be quite prompt and even more so considering our Group was fairly large, with more people arriving as it became later. As a fairly new addition to the neighbourhood I'm certain there has been a number of adjustments made since they opened to try to increase and maintain their palpability; as my 1st visit wasn't an extremely lengthy one I'm giving the Brewery the benefit with a 5 star rating, based on the service, my overall impression of the venue, the quality of the beer I shared and the tour. read more

Popped in here to check it out as my friend lives down the street and were both beer drinkers. It took us a hot minute to get served but once we did, it was a great experience. We both started with a flight and sampled different beers. Our favourite was the coffee flavoured stout. We also got an order of the wings which were delicious too. We loved the beer so much that we ended up getting another pint of it. I liked how personable our server was, she really took the time to chat with us and even told us about the weekend brunch special with the bottomless beers and mimosas with the purchase of a brunch dish. Two words to describe it: super pricey. I came with 2 coworkers after work for a drink. Atmosphere (3.5 stars): The place is on Bathurst and Adelaide, the location is pretty good, and the patio is large and nice (but still on a very busy street). Inside the place looks very clean with barrels hanging from the ceiling. Food (2.5 stars): Drinks: considering the fact that the beers are made in house I expected the drink size to be above average, or average at least. The IPA was in a small glass for the price of $8. (Nowhere did they specify the size of the pints and that they are different) They only have 5 beers, for description of one of them it was: "we fucked up, made it too hoppy, but why don't you give it a try." I ordered meatballs ($14). They were pretty tasty but super small. 3 small meatballs, and a piece of bread. (see picture) A friend ordered a burger with fries and the burger just looked sad. Definitely not worth 19$. For 2 beers, and meatballs, with tax and tip the total was $40. Service (4 stars): The service was ok, we did wait a long time for the burger and meatballs to come out. Northern Maverick Brewing is located at the south east corner of Bathurst and Adelaide. Back in December of 2018, I had the distinct pleasure of attending a Yelp Elite event at Northern Maverick. That event involved the business being both gracious and generous with their offerings and time. We were shown the vats, the plant, the facility. Great times! Fast forward to a warm late spring day early afternoon on a Thursday and wow. My last visit was in the evening on a mid December day where the days are short but on a bright sunny mid June day things are quite different. Northern Maverick's space looks larger during the day. During the warm months having what I believe to be one of the nicest patios if not the nicest downtown ground level patios really makes the space even larger and more inviting. Not enough can really be said about the space at Northern Maverick except to say that it's quite impressive. Having many outdoor tables is not very common when the weather is agreeable and that is a huge plus for snacking, dining and drinking. About that drinking... Northern Maverick is a full blown brewery in case the name didn't give it away. On prem in house brews? Yes please. During the early afternoon, a sifter of their lager is only 5 bucks. Now if I wasn't so full from eating 3 previous meals before coming here in the early afternoon maybe I would have had more than just west coast truffle fries. I figured since I'm going to pour some refreshing beer down the hatch that there should be something complimenting those drinks and fries seemed to be small and safe considering that yeah I was already sort of full. Well let me tell you as full as I was those fries were so good. I'm a lover of fried foods, no fibbing here. Fries, I've had more than a North American's fair share I'd like to think. When statistics bring up such things as consumption per capita, I like to think that when it comes to good fried foods that I am pulling my weight so to speak. These fries were solid. Piping hot, crispy on the outside, enough density on the inside. Perfect. They might as well have been as perfectly balanced as Belgian frites. Seriously though all I ate were fries, just fries but still exceptionally good for an everyday mundane food item that is generally taken for granted as only a side. Service? Excellent. We had ambitious plans of bar hopping last Saturday evening but little did we know that most bars/lounges/clubs on King St and Bathurst were going to be jam-packed with a 45 min wait minimum. So instead of grinding it out in the cold we decided walk a few meters north on Bathurst and were delighted to get a table. The place has a lot space and the tables are well spaced out. There are giant TVs all over the place, with their lights blending wells with the brewery's decor. Since it's a brewery, let's talk about the beers. Well according to our server, the most popular beer is Handcraft Lager which lived to the hype. I also enjoyed the Enforcer IPA as well. For snacks we really enjoyed the Mediterranean Board. Weather was wet and cold, so finding a great brewery and nice bites was definitely good value. It was not busy and so got a booth in the middle of the downstairs area. Our server was Marissa L (who was awesome and very knowledgable) and gave us the low-down on places to hit and live music venues, etc.. Beers were all excellent and the food was nice. We spent a few hours there (we weren't in a hurry) and so made the most of our time taking in a cheese platter as well which had awesome blue cheese (and pickled apricots - which was interesting) but they really added a nice acid level combined with crostini and the cheeses.. Spacious brewery located just north of King & Bathurst. Lots of space of group parties and they have some great weekly specials. I popped in for their Sunday buck-a-shuck (after 4pm) because who wouldn't. I made reservations for 5pm because it was football Sunday and I wasn't sure how busy it would be. It wasn't really necessary at that time but the place did start to fill up towards dinner time. Service was fantastic, very attentive and prompt. The oysters are incredibly meaty and are served with mignonette and fresh horseradish. While I didn't try other items during this visit, I have had the opportunity to try some of the food during a yelp event. I will say the charcuterie and cheeses are great. Don't forget to pair it with their delicious brews. The gose and saison were my favourite, but if you're unsure or want to try a variety grab the flight. Honestly, this restaurant is very hip looking. The patio is nice and it has a cool view of an old looking church across the street. Perhaps you can akin it to an experience in Europe - sitting at a square with your drink, enjoying the architectural beautiful surroundings. Well... maybe you need to stretch your imagination at this bathurst location a little bit. Lol That's where it ends. Service was horrendous. It took several waiters telling us that they will get our actual server before she finally came to our table. We placed our orders. My friend ordered a side of fries that was not listed on the menu, and I ordered grilled octopus with beans and chorizo. When the food came, we didn't have cutleries and had to ask for them. Somehow the beans were super crazy salty. I mentioned this to the server, and she said it's the chorizo. But that doesn't make it right. I left the beans untouched after a few bites. The octopus consists of 2 little tentacles. I laughed because this dish was listed under "shared" on the menu. In the meanwhile, the people at the table next to us ordered their food, and had to wait for cutleries as well. It really is a shame. Nice looking restaurant with bad food and service. read more

Calling all sport lovers!!! Maverick is a chill Toronto vibe right off King street where all the action is. My friends and I were looking for a cool patio just to grab some food and drinks and Maverick was the perfect spot. The added plus were all the TVs they had broadcasting everyone sport on in the night. They even had flat screens that were mounted along the patio area so seating everywhere could see a screen. Food wise the selection wasn't too crazy and the food itself was pretty basic. But the drinks make up for it there were so many options and you could even get a large tower (saw it on TikTok). If you just want the Toronto vibe this is deff the place to go! read more

When we passed by the brewery, they had these large heat lamps that you usually see before you go into a high end night club. I would summarize Maverick as an upscale brewery with terrible service. Glancing at the menu, there's a decent selection of beers, wines, and other alcoholic drinks. Food items are on the pricier side (burgers were $19). A table (of 2) in front of us sat down 10 minutes after us (also a table of 2) and were immediately greeted by their server and were poured their glasses of water. They then went back to the bar with a pretty full jug while our glasses remained empty. After another 10 minutes the same server came back to greet us and filled our cups. Call me observant, but the waiter was highly attentive to this table in front of us, but continued to neglect our empty cups throughout our evening. Considering the first impression of this place is amazing and gives off the impression of high class brewery, the service is below sub par. read more

While our night started off rocky, the staff at Maverick did everything right to make sure we still had an amazing time. I've been coming to the "MAV" ever since they opened their doors a couple of years ago. Their menu is designed by the lead chef to be farm to table and their beers are brewed on site so you can taste the crisp flavours. I particularly love coming in the summertime because of their large streetside patio, however their 300 person indoor capacity is a significant draw for cold Canadian winters. I highly recommend their customizable flights of beers for all beer lovers. The servers are very well educated on their seasonal offerings and they will love to pair their beers with amazing dishes from the kitchen. Everything is reasonably priced as well so you won't feel guilty when you end up at the Mav for happy hour with some friends after work. It's hard to write this review given that this place is so new and there are probably kinks they need to work out, but my visit there was quite disappointing. Let's start with the good stuff: Big gorgeous space; they make their own beers; friendly servers; decent downtown location with a nice outdoor patio - all the necessary combination to make this place jam packed on a nice day out. And indeed, it was quite busy there despite this place being a few weeks old. Me and my companion both ordered a tasting flight - 4 x 5oz for $12. It was on the pricey side for us, but if the beer is good, not a problem. Except of course, the beers weren't that great. The server informed us of the beer order in our flight, and left us thoroughly confused as they mixed up their beers (was told the First day IPA to be their Gose, and the two IPAs were mixed up). We wanted food while there, but we glanced at the menu and around us and pretty much knew we were not getting food there - $19 for a burger, $17 for small portion of tacos, $9 for ice cream!? Seriously, if you are that new, work your prices up over-time when you are established, not at the beginning! Overall, not impressed and definitely had better. I went there with a friend after a networking event to grab a bite. It was not full on a Wednesday night. The interior was similar to other micro-brewers but only dining on the main floor. I was not hungry so I order the octopus app. It was not amazing and was served with beans. The octopus was a single tentacle which appears to be grills but was soft tenture which I was not expecting. Not quite 3 stars overall. Service was friendly but food was slow to arrive. Food portions are not very filling and all share plates and entrees are $15 or more. The beer was pretty interesting and tasted OK.
