Took us all around the lake, had up to ten lines in the water at one point. Every time a line jiggled you'd get Luke yelling "fish on." Be ready for some fun ribbing if you loose your fish. We were out for about six hours, the boat was clean, restroom was clean and we all had a great time. Luke then prepped all of our fish for us, bagged them up, and encouraged us to book our spring trip early. Will absolutely book with them again.

A group of 6 friends, who had never done off-the-boat fishing, had the most incredibly amazing day…read moreon the water with Captain Shane on a recent Wednesday. We had originally scheduled to leave out of Kenosha, but the evening before our original charter, the infamous Kenosha shooting occured. With the pier being right in the midst of the aftermath, we successfully rescheduled, and this time, we were PUMPED! The communication from the very beginning was stellar. There should always be a high level of honestly and ethics when undertaking a business. Captain Shane has mastered these qualities. He keeps a stocked, clean, and comfortable vessel, with knowledge was beyond his young age. The man is a gem, and an honorable one (ex-Marine). Our group caught 8 fish (a mix of trout and salmon), which were cleaned and packaged for us to take home on the ride back to the pier. We already decided we're going again next year, and at that time, we're going longer than the 5 hours we did this time. Captain, thank you for your service to your country and your customers. Totally worth every penny spent to create a wonderful memory. I chartered the Red Witch for an 80th birthday party/family reunion and a fireworks cruise. We had 25 guests ranging in age from 22 - 82. Captain Andrew, his crew and our guests made magic that evening. Clearly the Red Witch is a labor of love for the captain and his crew...and we fell in love with all of them. It was raining softly as we gathered at Burnham Harbor about 1/2 hr before sailing. Captain Andrew says the Lake is a micro climate and that you can't tell what the weather will be until about 4 hrs before cruising time. At 8p he told me the rain would stop by 9p and it did (it actually stopped at 8:50). He knows his business. He gave us the option of cancelling the cruise but based on his reading of the weather, we went ahead, the rain stopped, the sky was clear over the stunning skyline and it became an absolutely beautiful evening. From the moment we boarded the ship, the energy was electric. Once we were out of the harbor, the crew asked for volunteers to hoist the sail - my 80 yr mother volunteered! The bar opened (a cooler) and there wasn't a dry glass the entire cruise. The captain asked if we had an ipod ( we forgot). The accommodations shipboard were fine. The ship is being slowly rehabbed...it is clean and has tremendous character. The crew and their attention were beyond my expectation. The only annoyance of the evening had nothing to do with the Red Witch but with parking. There was a concert on Northerly Island that evening and Soldier Field charged us $50 to park in the garage. Many of our group took Uber - highly recommended. A few rode their bikes and a few took the el - all easy. If you're not interested in paying through the roof for parking, make sure you check parking fees or leave your car at home. Do not hesitate to charter this ship for a special occasion.

We had such a good day with Captain Jim that I felt compelled to let my fellow Yelpers know all…read moreabout it! For Father's Day I decided to charter a boat to do some fishing with my Dad... it turned out to be a day we will never forget. I've fished my whole life, but never on a charter on a lake like Lake Michigan, so I wasn't for sure what to expect. Captain Jim gives very thorough instructions on how and what he expects from you... and then he works his magic! He has 12 LINES out at once and constantly changed depths, speed, lures, etc.... whatever it took to make sure we kept catching fish. In saying that, we ended up catching the MAX AMOUNT of fish we were allowed to keep by law... the smallest fish was maybe 10-12 pounds... they were all huge, I've never seen anything like it! The biggest fish was a King Salmon... definitely north of 20 lbs. The cost to charter for 8 hours was $690... after tip the total was $870, and I don't hesitate to say it was the best $870 ever spent. We had 5 people (3 of my buddies joined in), so it turned out to be $170 a piece...everyone agreed it was more than worth what we got. Speaking of what we got... we ended up with 75 lbs of fish fillets... I'll be eating fish for the next year, and we split the fish up 3 ways!! If you're looking for a Charter, Captain Jim and Lucky Dog is where it's at... we drove up from downtown Chicago, and the drive was simple... no need to look any further, this is your guy. HAVE FUN!!

His boat is one of the most stable in high waves/wind and is always clean and ready to fish, he always has the best equipment, does a perfect job of coaching you through the fishing, does an excellent job of cleaning the fish and makes the experience enjoyable for everyone. We have been thru three generations already on the Lucky Kid and I hope to have a fourth before he retires. You can't go wrong with Captain Ernie.
