Constantly switching up lures, adjusting depths, and doing everything short of whispering sweet nothings to the salmon to get them on the line. We were two couples and had an absolute blast. The stories, the laughs, the fish--it all adds up to a top-notch experience. Left with our limits and some great memories (and maybe a few tall fish tales). Can't wait to do it all again next year. As you know with any fishing trip there is no guarantee of catching fish. Going with a guide that has been doing this for almost 30 years does however put you in a great position to catch fish. We did quite well and I landed a personal best. We are not only planning our trip for next year, but we are also likely going back out next month.

I booked a boat through them and got the boat named Fish-on, with Captain Jim. The trip was great although we did not get all the fish we wanted, we all had a good time. My great niece was the only person who caught the only King Salmon of the day, and she was so excited. This was the biggest fish that she has caught, at 15 lbs. WOW. I would use their service for our next trip. Our captain, Jim, was just great and tried everything possible to get more fish on the boat, they were just not biting. That is why it's called fishing and not catching, as my father used to say. We will return.

Totally worth every penny spent to create a wonderful memory. I chartered the Red Witch for an 80th birthday party/family reunion and a fireworks cruise. We had 25 guests ranging in age from 22 - 82. Captain Andrew, his crew and our guests made magic that evening. Clearly the Red Witch is a labor of love for the captain and his crew...and we fell in love with all of them. It was raining softly as we gathered at Burnham Harbor about 1/2 hr before sailing. Captain Andrew says the Lake is a micro climate and that you can't tell what the weather will be until about 4 hrs before cruising time. At 8p he told me the rain would stop by 9p and it did (it actually stopped at 8:50). He knows his business. He gave us the option of cancelling the cruise but based on his reading of the weather, we went ahead, the rain stopped, the sky was clear over the stunning skyline and it became an absolutely beautiful evening. From the moment we boarded the ship, the energy was electric. Once we were out of the harbor, the crew asked for volunteers to hoist the sail - my 80 yr mother volunteered! The bar opened (a cooler) and there wasn't a dry glass the entire cruise. The captain asked if we had an ipod ( we forgot). The accommodations shipboard were fine. The ship is being slowly rehabbed...it is clean and has tremendous character. The crew and their attention were beyond my expectation. The only annoyance of the evening had nothing to do with the Red Witch but with parking. There was a concert on Northerly Island that evening and Soldier Field charged us $50 to park in the garage. Many of our group took Uber - highly recommended. A few rode their bikes and a few took the el - all easy. If you're not interested in paying through the roof for parking, make sure you check parking fees or leave your car at home. Do not hesitate to charter this ship for a special occasion.

I had reached out ahead of time to see if they do fancy mocktails so I wouldn't just be stuck…read moredrinking a sprite on board. I quit drinking years ago but still want to have fun and fit in. The beverage manager assured me that they do offer a selection of crafted mocktails - so I was expecting a menu or at least the bartender having some knowledge. I asked and the bartender just pointed out the juices that they have. Now a lot of local establishments have created mocktails that have unique mixes to them that I don't know. So when he was pointing to the different juices I didn't even know what to ask for. He only suggested a Shirley Temple. So all in all, I was stuck drinking a Sprite and didn't feel to fit in. I didn't have much fun.

He knows the baits to use and how to transition if the fish are being finicky. Don has the patience and demeanor to handle all types of fisher-people. From the youngin's to the seasoned veterans, he will put you on the fish. The boat is always clean and ready for the seas. We always catch fish, and he does a great job of cleaning them the way you want, and bagging them up for safe, clean transport. See the pics over the last three years, they show the results. Give Captain Don a call for a charter boat, and have a fun filled day with friends or family.
