I can't afford eating in Gloria Maris simply because it's a bit steep for my budget and it feels awkward for me to eat in such a huge place where there's no table just for one (or two). Crystal Jade actually brings back memory of a not so distant past. It actually reminds me of the old Chinese restaurants that are on the fine dining side, the plates don't show wear and tear, utensils are properly paired. Hmmmm, taste-wise, food was OK. It was not, "Yummy yehey", it was not bad. Its, well...., food. The serving size isn't big enough to be shared by two hungry people. It's enough to fill the stomach but won't you go bloated. Dumplings were great, though. But the food servers were really attentive. Once someone raises their hands or make the simplest eye contact, they'd rush immediately. That's a + + + for me actually.

In a place like Greenhills Shopping Center where there is a seemingly endless option for about anything, the workout doubles. Good thing I can always rely on Crystal Jade to wipe away my exhaustion and hunger. For a full meal, I usually indulge in an order of their pork xiao long bao. I like their xiao long bao mostly because there's always "juice" inside that is like a burst of happiness inside my mouth. One order has 5 pieces and is just about filling as a snack already. Then another staple with my meals at Crystal Jade would be their noodles with dried shrimp in peanut sauce. The soft noodles are complimented by the texture of the dried shrimp and the sauce itself, which is spicy very much to my delight. For a full meal, half of the snack size is usually enough for me, so I either split it with whoever I'm with, or I have it packed away to take home.

From the moment we walked in, we were seated almost immediately. The staff were incredibly accommodating, attentive, and genuinely friendly. They took the time to make several recommendations, and we're so glad we followed them. We started with the Shrimp and Pork Siomai, which was absolutely delicious. The filling was juicy, and each bite burst with flavor. The tofu was another standout, perfectly cooked with great texture and seasoning. We also ordered the Shrimp with Salted Egg Yolk, and wow, it was rich, flavorful, and incredibly satisfying. The Oyster Omelette sounded a little unusual at first, but it turned out to be surprisingly delicious as well. One dish I can't forget is the Honey Barbecue Pork, which deserves an honorable mention. It had the perfect balance of sweet and savory flavors. I don't know if we simply got lucky, but every single dish we ordered was fantastic. The restaurant itself has a classy yet welcoming atmosphere. It's clean, well-maintained, and comfortable without feeling overly formal. Overall, this was a wonderful dining experience, and I'd happily recommend it to anyone looking for a great Chinese restaurant in SM North.

The only criticism…read moreI have (the reason for 4 not 5 stars) is the tendency for some of the dishes to be sweet. Now, that's a personal opinion! I have eaten at two location and each time spent over 1,000 pesos and qualified for the free xia long bao. Other rewards are available but those I am not getting into for they maybe temporary in nature. I have tried two of their specials - the three cup chicken and the sweet spare ribs. The three cup chicken, eaten with white rice, is a great meal by itself. The original recipe calls for three cups of sesame oil, soy sauce and rice vinegar. Cooked with large chunks of ginger and garlic cloves, and basil thrown it, it is a very addictive dish! The sweet spare rib was a bit too sweet for me ( served sprinkled with powdered sugar) it is best eaten I think, if a complementary spicy dish like Kung Pao shrimp. The xia long bao is as good as others - I really enjoyed it when served hot. For vegetables, the standard fare such as spinach, morning glory, and book choy are available. For our choice, we ordered the green beans with ground pork. Salty and spicy, it was a welcome change from the standards. We found the roast duck to be very greasy - we wondered if it was fried not roasted. I would not order it again. We found the service to be attentive but not obtrusive! Definitely will eat here again.
