There is a conference center and restaurant inside. This is not the newest hotel but it has been remodeled and looks very nice. A full breakfast was included. Which is always a nice way to start off the day.

We drove nearly 1000 miles to this lodge to find that their descriptions in the website did not match reality. This became evident very early in the stay. The cabins were adequate, but I would certainly not say they were nice. They were like saunas, even with multiple fans and relatively cool weather. The boats were certainly not as advertised. They no longer had live wells in ANY boats. The rod holders in ours were useless as they were worn and one even broken. They did have a bilge and the electric start motor was connected to a battery that was terribly rigged, and finally fixed after a couple days of asking while struggling to make sure the connection was good. They are doing some renovations around camp, although the if they don't do a better job with the day to day maintenance, I don't see it making a difference in the long run. The place was getting run down in many parts, and staff are completely inattentive to those glaring needs for minor fixes that would make the camp so much better. Instead, they were inside watching tv and on the web unless there was a boat to tie up. This brings me to the major reason for the low rating-and I thought hard about 1 star... The service for our group was worthless. We spent about $10k as a group at the lodge before any additional miscellaneous expenses (fuel, minnows, fish cleaning, ice-all of which are not included in the price online unless you go with an upgraded plan) so you would think that for $10k for a week, someone would act like they give a crap about your group, right? Well, we had a VERY brief meeting with the owner as we arrived and they arranged boats for us, but had NO communication with him after that until checkout. Every other lodge I have been to has taken the time to go through the lake rules, lodge rules, Canadian fishery rules, and then asked if we had any other questions. They have also welcomed us to camp! The deck hands did only what was required of them, and truly acted as if they did not care whether you even caught a cold. Only after repeated prodding did they fix our battery connection. In spite of all of this, we caught fish! But the lack of communication and personal touch was so evident with this place. Having been to Canada for about 24 years, and done drive-up resorts, portages, and fly-ins, this was easily our least hospitable experience, and the only decent, and somewhat misleading accommodations could not come close to making up for the lack of effort and care of the staff.

This is due to extremely high mercury levels from both historical pollution from the Dryden Mill as well as natural mercury levels. This information was collected by obtaining and testing flesh samples from fish meat the last 3-5 yrs in these Lakes. Its unfortunate how many people do not know this about Clay Lake and eat the fish, feed it to their families, children and well as women of a child bearing age. Mercury accumulates in both a fishes body over time as well as our body over time and does not break down, leading to many possible health complications. The owners at the resorts on Clay Lake do not want this information getting out as it affects their business. Always make sure to check the guide if youre in or around the Dryden area or better yet everywhere on ONT, the information is there all it takes is finding the right page

It was modern, spotless, tastefully decorated, and had a comfortable armchair by the window that quickly became my favorite spot to enjoy my morning coffee while taking in the view. The bathroom was on the small side but was well designed, functional, and had a great walk-in shower. One thing to be aware of is the window coverings. The draperies don't extend all the way to the floor, so quite a bit of early morning sunlight comes into the room. If you're someone who likes to sleep past sunrise--especially during the long summer days in northern Ontario--you may want to bring an eye mask. My biggest disappointment was the lack of a restaurant. We were told it's been "closed for renovations" for about three years. For what appears to be one of the nicest (and pricier) hotels in the area, it's surprising that guests have to leave the property just to get breakfast or even a cup of coffee. The revolving top floor seems like it would make an incredible restaurant with amazing views--I hope they bring it back someday. Given the nightly rate, I expected a more complete hotel experience. The front desk staff were fine, but not particularly welcoming. We also received a rather odd phone call one morning asking whether a woman had been banging on our door. The employee kept repeating "good morning" before explaining why she was calling, which made for a confusing interaction. The outside of the property could also use some attention. The parking lot is full of potholes and definitely needs resurfacing. We also noticed people loitering near the entrance, which wasn't the greatest first impression. One other downside: we could hear guests in a nearby room coming and going after 11:00 p.m., which interrupted our sleep. The good news is that several restaurants and coffee shops are only about a 10-minute walk away, so there are convenient dining options nearby. This hotel has all the makings of a five-star stay. If they reopened the restaurant, improved the exterior, upgraded the window coverings, and polished a few customer service details, it would be an easy five stars from us.

We were grateful for a place to stay because we came into Kenora late and most of the places that we could afford were full. We took the last room in this "poorer relation" from the Travelodge. In general, it was good. Old and outdated, but clean. I liked that they had a full kitchen. We didn't need the oven, but the full fridge was nice to clean out our cooler and not play Tetris with those mini fridges. Decent location as well. The beds were fine, however the room was stuffy. Mind you it was very hot outside. If we were in Kenora again, I would probably not stay here and try somewhere else, but if you are "stuck" it is a fine solution.

I felt horrible letting my baby crawl on the floor but there's not much I could do. Tried to keep her on the bed as much as possible. The bathroom vanity looked new-ish and clean as did the tub/shower. Stairs - no elevator at the back where you park. Not sure if there is an elevator at the front. Cheap pet fee of 15$ and convenient location are the upsides.

The boats are newer, clean and have extra options like trolling motors, fish finder and CB radio. The refrigerator is full size so lots of space as well as the freezer. Only thing that caught us by surprise was there was no towels for showering. You will need to bring towels, napkins and paper towels. Would highly recommend and worth to hire a fishing guide for at least a 1/2 day to show you around as the bodies of water are massive.

But the furniture is outdated. It's not worn out or beat up. Only from a different decade. Very nice people, and one of the most reasonable price in the town. We both had something from the starter menu and different entrees. The prime rib was perfect! The ribs were plentiful and beautifully roasted and flavoured. The staff treated us like royalty but the atmosphere was casual and friendly. We are so lucky to have a place like this in Dryden! We will definitely return and try some other goodies from their generous menu. Great night out to celebrate!
