The basketball court was refinished and added sturdy end brackets for holding the backboards, cool images on the backboards, seating, and a wall mural with a basketball theme too! The restrooms were upgraded and the park was generally in great shape. But now, one of the backboards is missing and the other has the finish on the backboard damaged. What happened? Can't someone at least get a plain backboard and basket to make the court playable? Such a shame. The rest of the park seems to be in okay shape. There are lots of amenities on site: baseball field, skate park, tennis court, and on the south end, a small playground. Lots of open space and some trees for shade (other smaller ones have been planted for future shade too.) There didn't seem to be any designated parking lot for the park. There was some parking along the baseball field on the north end and some street parking. And the "shelter/restroom" is rather small, so it doesn't lend itself to be the place someone would rent. Still, if the parks department or the neighbors spent a little bit of money, the park could become a lot more functional. Review #2482

I went to some single A games in Virginia that were played on a high school field, so I was shocked when I arrived. It's a really nice facility, I was told IU Kokomo plays their games there. Not familiar with the ballpark, my experience started with buying tickets over the phone. I described the kind of seats I wanted, lady at ticket window provided exactly what I wanted; they were great seats!! The night I went was thirsty Thursday, so domestic beer was $2 for 12 Oz glass. Had a brat and eventually French fries. Parking was easy, may be a challenge if sold out. I had a blast!!!

Of course, we won't mind if you look around, they'll say. It's only eight dollars per person. Folks'll pass over the money without even thinking about it. For it is money they have and peace they lack. And they'll walk out to the Umbrella Bar and the Backyard, and sit in shirt-sleeves on a perfect afternoon. Or they'll find they have reserved seats somewhere along one of the baselines, where they sat when they were children and cheered their heroes. And they'll watch the game, and it'll be as if they'd dipped themselves in magic waters. The memories will be so thick, they'll have to brush them away from their faces. People will come, Funk...The one constant through all the years, Funk, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It's been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt, and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game -- it's a part of our past, Funk. The playground equipment is spread out among the trees and lets the kids burn off energy running from one piece to the next! There are multiple slides, swings, and there are two fort pieces. The large tower has slides and tubes that the kids can slide down. With multiple slides, the wait is minimal and keeps the descents interesting for them. There is also a shelter that can be used and I saw a remote grill near the playground if the shelter is being used. Lots of parking with two lots to help get visitors closer to the field they are playing on that day. Nice park with more to do than just sit and watch. Review #2330

It has the Kokomo Arts Pavilion with lots of lawn space too. There's also the canal walk that has a bronze sculpture and a butterfly mural as you approach Washington Street. For activities, there is a baseball field, basketball court, lots of tennis courts, and a pedestrian bridge over the canal to the "Beaches" of Kokomo water park. For younger visitors, there is a delightful bright playground near the pavilion that has a gorilla statue watching over it! And up on the corner, there is a real tank on display. Free parking lines the north border of the park and there is some additional parking in the park on the west end. And the place is so close to downtown that the walk to get something to eat or if you want to shop is really close too! Great job Kokomo! This is a gem of a park! Review #2326

What I like best about the park are the mature trees that provide lots of shade. Some of the trees are over 400 years old. There is a huge colorful playground with climbing structures, swings and slides. The base is a mix of mulch and soft matting. Benches line the area for parents to sit and watch kids . (The equipment could use a good cleaning from the trees.) There are two ball diamonds with bleachers within the park. A beautiful stream that meanders through the park attracts fisherman. Tree-covered picnic areas are scattered along the creek. The Vermont Covered Bridge spans the creek and is open to pedestrian traffic. There are restroom facilities near the playground. There are several parking areas throughout the park and you can drive along the creek. Highland Park is a great place to bring the family.

We rented the Rogers Pavilion at Highland Park for our family reunion in August. We booked it about…read morea year in advance since we have our family reunion every August, and we wanted to make sure we could get the date we needed. The pavilion was around $250 for pretty much the entire day, which I thought was a great price for the amount of time and space you get. We really like this park because there's plenty of space and lots of parking. There's also a playground directly across the street that's suitable for kids of different ages, along with a basketball court. The pavilion itself has plenty of tables and chairs, you just have to set them up yourself. There's also a small kitchen, which is very convenient, along with two gender neutral restrooms on each side of the kitchen. The only downside is that the grill provided with the pavilion is a little bit of a walk from the indoor area. There's also another covered pavilion with seating between the grill and the Rogers Pavilion. There happened to be another event going on there during our reunion. It didn't interfere with our event, but of course, having the entire area private would have been even better. I really like this pavilion and think it's a great place to host an event. There's plenty of space, lots of parking, and activities for all ages. I'd definitely consider renting it again for future family events!

Parking is along the street. The neighborhood is designed with lots of curved roads and no direct path through it, so giving directions to a location almost requires a navigator so that the driver can keep their eyes on the road.
