This troupe of volunteer performers puts on a high-energy show, building an interesting story line primarily through song and dance. The shows are written by the cast and accompanied by well-known musical numbers. I've seen two SNAP! performances, one in 2009 and one this year, and they keep getting better. As an audience member, it's hard not to start dancing in your seat and singing along. In the interest of full disclosure, I'll note that my sister-in-law is a member of SNAP!, but I've tried to take an objective look at the group and their performances. I'd definitely go to a show to support my sister-in-law, but I wouldn't be writing a review about it unless I genuinely enjoyed myself at the show. The most recent show, The Manila Envelope, was a love-triangle murder mystery told entirely through song and dance. There were no spoken lines in the entire performance, but the story was easily followed due to the talent of the actors involved and the clever selection of songs paired with each scene. Well-known songs, from Lady Gaga to Journey to Johnny Cash, told this story of love, betrayal, and murder. The songs were performed as ensemble and solo numbers, and were accompanied by dancers, who added visual richness to the production and contributed to the story with the emotion of their movements. Though The Manila Envelope's run is complete, I'd definitely recommend checking out SNAP!'s next show. Not only is it good entertainment, it's a great way to support local performers and the community.

Anna formed the Annadroids in 2004 and has since been getting a lot of local and national attention. If you've been to ComFest or any even in the Short North including the monthly Gallery Hops or the annual Art Al Fresco, you must have seen Anna, most likely at G & Co. She's the doll-dressed creature with white makeup, exaggerated red lips, and long glittery eyelashes, and she's usually being followed by similar looking friends in tutus. Anna and the Annadroids rock my world. I could watch them for hours on end. Their performances are alluring and captivating. And the message behind their movements is chilling. These girls are on top of their game. Any time they're around, you're sure to see a crowd piling out into the street, risking being hit by a COTA bus for a chance to see Anna and her troupe doing their thing. I cannot believe something so thoughtful and well done is coming out of Columbus. I'm proud.

My daughter who takes classes here is now 4 years old and is entering her second season. She took the 3-4 year-old intro dance class last year and LOVED it. She just started up again last week as a 4 year-old and is thrilled to be back! She has formed a relationship with the teacher and made friends here too. My wife and I appreciate the childrens' play area that our 2 year-old can play in while our older daughter is in class. There are big screen monitors that we can watch our daughter's class without interrupting the flow of the class instruction. We're right outside if our daughter has the use the restroom or has a meltdown (I've seen it happen). The recital in June is quite spectacle. All of the classes that take place throughout the year get a spot in the recital. Even our little pre-schooler. I have to admit that in all of the leading up to this event, I was not excited to give up a Saturday afternoon for it. But when I saw my daughter on this amazing stage in this fancy auditorium and her face lit up, my heart melted. My parents and wife's parents came too and it was a big to-do (get there early and get in line for a decent seat!). I really really appreciated that they kept the kids backstage and busy (with some parent help) the entire performance and my daughter hung out with the older kids, who really took a liking to her. The relationships she had formed throughout that afternoon were apparent in the final curtain call when some of the older kids were holding her up and showing her how to bow and wave to the cheering crowd. BBDC is as pricey as the next dance studio, but they make it worth your money. The consistent classes, the fun my daughter has there, the friendships she has made there, and the final performance make it all worth it for her. By the end, I was pressuring my wife to sign her up for the next season. And our daughter was thrilled to do it all again.

In all honesty, it was rough because it was all new to her so she did cry more days than not. However, once we were home she talked non stop about ballet. Once registration opened for 2023/2024 classes I decided to sign her up for pre ballet weekly classes. One thing that drew me to NABC was how they respect the art with dress code and conduct expectations. To me, ballet/dance is more than just an extracurricular, it's something that has the potential to enrich my child in many ways! This past season I have looked forward to every Friday ballet class. I love seeing my daughter run to me with the biggest smile after class! Mrs. Jessica is excellent and helped my daughter warm up to class quickly! Would recommend to anyone.

Ok, my little girl loves her ballet lessons here, and her ballet instructor (Gabrielle is her name) is really good with kids (she's 4, btw.) (Edit: My daughter is 4, not the instructor. I assume that her instructor is older since I saw her driving a car once.) (I guess that was obvious but whatever.) It's not cheap but they don't do any of those garish dance competitions here, they just do ballet. Maybe I'll change my mind if they psychologically damage her or something but for now it seems like they're good at what they do. I guess I can't be cheap about everything.

I've taken lessons here, on and off, for years…read more Invitation to Dance is owned by Stacy and Dana Coil, and I've had lessons with both of them. Sometimes my husband and I take lessons together, and sometimes we take them separately. They are both excellent instructors and made the experiences very enjoyable. I guess that's why we always go back. The dance floor is spacious, there is plenty of room to learn without colliding into other learners. My understanding is that they have other instructors that work for them, but I haven't had personal experiences with them. I do know that Dana and Stacy personally train all of their instructors. I highly recommend this studio for anybody who really wants to learn how to dance, and not just "learn steps."

Baroque music is a beautiful thing! To hear it performed live is uplifting and enlightening and…read morewhile I try to squeeze in at least one performance per year by the Columbus Bach Ensemble, central Ohio's only Baroque orchestra. The Columbus Bach Ensemble was founded in 2000 by Worthington resident Christine Shumway Mortine. The chamber orchestra focuses primarily on the music of J.S Bach and other great masters of the 7th and 18th century, such as Hayden and Mozart. The season consists of about eight concerts, most of which are played at the Southern Theatre downtown. It is, however, a real treat to hear their music the hallowed halls of the gothic-style St. Turibius Chapel at the Pontifical College at the Josephinum in Worthington. This is a calming, yet exhuberant way to spend a Sunday afternoon and, as far as classical concerts go, ticket prices seem affordable at $10-$15.

I had an amazing time at the Stonewall Columbus Pride Parade & Festival this year (2023). I have been attending Columbus Pride since 2000 and love how the festival and march has grown over the years. I especially appreciate all the love and support celebrated over the weekend. Friday, a group of us went down to Goodale Park and explored the booths and ate way too much festival food. The fried cheese on a stick is always a must for me but so many different vendors are here. We brought a large blanket with us and grabbed a spot on the grass (base camp) to enjoy the evening. The first day is a great day to checkout everything as the day of the parade is crazy at the park. Saturday was awesome with the parade. This was the first year I stayed till the very end of the parade. So many businesses, churches, groups, and folks marching in support of the community. After the parade we grabbed a quick bite to eat at Tip Top Kitchen & Cocktails (on Gay St), and made our way back down to the park for the second evening. We walked around for a couple hours and set up our base camp again followed by some funnel cake and some yummy treats. It was absolutely an amazing festival and the weather was perfect. Even though I heard the crazies and nazi's were out protesting I did not encounter any but stayed alert and aware of my surroundings as best as possible. Thank you to the Columbus Division of Police for the support and incredible presence during these scary times. They did a wonderful job and we ALL felt as save as possible. Also wanted to recognize all those who came out to enjoy the festival and support the LGBTQIA+ community.

It's been five years since I first left a review for the Columbus Pride Parade and it's evolved…read moresince then, so how about an update. This year and last, the parade started off Broad St. downtown and marched towards the Short North ending at Goodale Park, which is where the festival is now held. The parade starts around 10:30 am Saturday morning and can go on for hours. The festival is on both Friday and Saturday and goes until about 10pm. I like this parade route and festival location a lot better than the way it was before. The park has a ton of shade, the neighborhood has some amazing LGBTQ+ owned businesses to support, and the community is welcoming to all. Everything else in my original review still rings true. The celebration is known to welcome just under a million spectators and is the second largest in the Midwest. The spirit in the air is magical. Everything from the creative floats, to the performances, decorations, and everything in between, really set the vibe. I love that the crowd really represents the diversity here in Columbus. All walks of life come to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and I'm so proud to say this happens in my hometown.

Upon driving 1.5 miles into the park to reach the fest, we saw some nice park pavilions with hosted parties. Made a mental note that it's a great location for an outdoor party! Scenic, fun to spot wildlife (we saw turkeys!) and easily reached from the highway. It was our first time visiting the folk music festival and, on a gorgeous sunny day, we couldn't have asked for more. Friendly volunteers, gorgeous green open area, talented musicians throughout the 2-day event, a handful of great vendors and food choices, and awesome kid's crafts. It's family and dog-friendly. It's not crowded nor overpriced. I look forward to visiting next year!

The Columbus Folk Music Society partners with Metro Parks to present a 3 day hootenany of banjo pickin', old time country songs and folksy jam sessions. Friday night kicks the event off with a potluck dinner and the "world's worst song' contest. If you've got a really bad song in ya, you could possibly win a major award! Saturday and Sunday brings workshops, concerts and gospel sings. If you are a fan of bluegrass or folk music, I'd highly recommend checking out this festival for at least a day. It's a hippy-jam-fest-of-a-blast.
