Went to ER with severe left sided pain. BP was high most of the time. Was as high as 200/120 and kept having tachycardia episodes. No treatment for BP and sent home without BP medication as I was told Dr already put in DC orders so too late for BP medication. Should be a liability for Northwestern with a blood pressure that high if something would happen on car ride home. RN and Dr were very nice though. Was a long wait but to be expected in a busy ER. Couldve been better though. read more

I had a change in symptoms, requiring my annual screening to become a diagnostic screening. The diagnostic screening was very thorough and included a more thorough x-ray based mammogram as well as an ultrasound. The mammogram came with a recommendation for a biopsy. Today, I had the biopsy. The nurse and technologist were professional and compassionate, tending to my anxiety and fears as well as the actual prep, procedure, and after-care. Greatly disappointed on Northwestern. I'm very surprised with the way this hospital is being ran. truly a lack of oversight on the schedulers department. I have seen it more than a handful that medical schedulers associates commonly speak rudely to Patients moreover refusing to give up their own name. MSA's try to block patients to contact direct supervisor. Patient's beware and watch over for your health insurance because there is a strong likelihood there are wrong charges. The younger doctors are still learning and the younger generation do not review health history or complete historical medications. They're a big communication gap between departments. Horrible care by all. Left in room over an hour without anyone checking on me and could find call button. I had to remove all hookups so that I could go to the bathroom. Staff unprofessional and sloppy. Blood was drawn after 2 1/2 hrs, and they left one blood vial in the room. Staff were not friendly, and their attitude seemed unprofessional and uncaring. Terrible outpatient lab service. First, they lost the lab order my doctor sent in. So I sat there in their waiting room for 45 minutes while they requested a new lab order from my doctor and had to get a response. He confirmed with fax receipt proof that he had already sent it to them. Second, they billed my insurance $362 for a standard potassium and blood serum pallet. This went towards my deductible. I get this blood pallet done ever 6 months for a medication that I take and it usually costs me $20 at any other lab. I only came to this lab center because I moved to the area and it was convenient. Third, my doctor 2 weeks later still has not received my lab results. The lab date was 11/12/18 and today is 11/30/18. They said he would have results within 24-48 hours. So now they are billing me $362 for services that are not even completed. Do not come here for outpatient services! read more

This hospital is SHIT especially for their emergency room. I waited two hours in the waiting room while they checked in and brought back people who had only been waiting 20 minutes that had less worse symptoms than I did. I went up to the desk and asked how much longer of a wait it was going to be and told them that I was feeling worse than when I had got there and they told me to suck it up because anywhere else would have a longer wait and that they were my best bet. Then, when they finally brought me back to a room after 2 hours, they put me in the same room as a guy with kidney stones who sat and screamed in pain while I was trying to sleep off how horrible I was feeling. They told me to put on one of their gowns which covered absolutely nothing and when I asked for a blanket because they keep it 20 degrees in the room, they waited 30 minutes before a DIFFERENT nurse who overheard me asking for a blanket came in and said "she wasn't gonna bring you one but here you go" and gave me two of the coldest blankets I've ever touched in my life. They don't care about their patients one bit and every single nurse here is snippy and rude and doesn't have a caring bone in their body. There is no direct number to the doctor's office and no one will return my messages or my pharmacy's request for a refill. (there has been no response to them in the since 10/31. Northwestern ER billed my insurance $995 for a minor outpatient visit (less than 30 minutes) on top of $365 to take my vitals and essentially tell me I had a cold (I thought I might be having an adverse reaction to medication). When I contacted them to take issue with this charge, they claimed that 1. the charge was standard, and 2. that the fee was not negotiable. Both claims are false. Healthcare Bluebook states that the fair charge for an outpatient ER visit is $165 (NOT $995) and I personally know people who have negotiated medical bills down to reasonable amounts. When I objected to this outrageous room charge for a less-than-30-minute visit, the representative finally consented to allow me to FAX in a settlement amount. She absurdly said that only faxes were accepted, which strikes me as bureaucratic nonsense to discourage people from challenging their exorbitant pricing. I highly recommend that people avoid this ER if at all possible. They take advantage of the sick to commit highway robbery, and then hide behind layers of bureaucracy to avoid addressing their unethical pricing. This is the kind of thing that leads people to take risky chances with their health, due to fears of being taken advantage of. Northwestern should be ashamed. read more

Came here when I had a kidney stone. If you've had them you know the pain is almost unbearable 1st night I came their almost passing out from the pain screaming. They said I'll have to wait... ARE YOU SERIOUS!! Trying to get in a comfortable position the piece of human garbage receptionist tells me to keep it down I'm making the other patience uncomfortable... good lord... finally get a room. I tell them what's going on and the seem agitated cause I kept moving a moaning in pain. And the fact the male nurse and the doctor were very rude to my mom who came later. They were lucky I was on a morphine drip.. when I started feeling a little better they wanted me out. FINE! I got the hell out of their with out signing the discharge papers. The receptionist even came out to say I forgot to sign the discharge papers. Drove away while telling her she's number 1 with my hand.. The pain came back the second night but I was reluctant to go back. So I stayed outside trying to see if the pain will go away. I didn't so walked in. New receptionist but still acting like scum. I guess it's a job requirement here. I get in after 30 min same terrible nurse, said "real men don't feel pain".. let's just say him another nurse and a grayslake PD had to pry me off him. Never was charged cop laughed and said I know what kidney stones feels like. Got my meds got thrown out.. again.. the third day I had the pain I went to McHenry and within 30 seconds I was takin in had 4 nurse and 2 doctors on me constantly making sure I was ok.. 2 months later got a 20k bill and at that moment I didn't have a job and fresh out of school. Their brain dead finance department wouldn't work with me and actually had the nerve to make fun of my financial situation.. if I could jump through the phone. I don't write reviews. Like ever. But I had to because of the most ignorant nurse I've ever met. I had surgery at this place to take my tonsils out on may 6, 2021. Everything was great after surgery nurses awesome. They told me if I start bleeding heavily to go to the er. I should have gone to the lake forest hospital. The greys lake er is a joke. As soon as I go in to the room this nurse I believe her name is simsar or something. I asked her to right her name down and I guess she knew why cuz she wrote it as unreadable as possible. It's a short dark Asian woman. Obviously I'm there for bleeding cuz I just had surgery. She starts asking questions and when we get to do I smoke I said yes she says how many packs a day. I said none I smoke weed not cigarettes. That's when she takes it upon herself to try to tell me how marijuana causes long term headaches and nausea and I really need to quit. First off I'm not here for that and I've been smoking for 20 years and I've never seen someone in the medical field be so ignorant and uninformed about marijuana. After months of working with my fantastic ENT, Dr. Dyuka. He's seriously the best. I decided to go ahead with an outpatient surgery at Northwestern Grayslake. His staff called and scheduled my surgery. About a week before the surgery, the surgery coordinator called me to do the pre-op phone call outlining my medical history prior to surgery. Admittedly, it was my first outpatient surgery, so I had no idea how it all goes down. On the morning of my surgery, we arrived early to the surgery waiting room. Once I got cleared, we were ushered into the pre-op area similar to a hospital emergency room floor. There, we went through paperwork and got ready for surgery. It was a little nerve wracking knowing that surgery was going to happen soon through that. Right before my surgery start time, my ENT/surgeon arrived along with the anesthesiologist. Soon after, I was wheeled into the frigid surgical room and promptly knocked out after talking about the Cubs World Series and Brooklyn 99. I woke up in the post op room totally spacy and with weird surgical nose things. After a fair bit of the anesthesia wore off, they prepped me for home. The nurses were fantastic in offering food and beverage post surgery, but my stomach was too off to think about it. Once they discharged me, we went home where I slept off the anesthetic. The nurses called the next day to check on me and answer any questions about my care. This past weekend, about a month after my surgery, I received a get well/thinking of you card signed by all of the nurses who attended to me and throughout the surgery. It was a pleasant surprise after a great experience with outpatient surgery. The Northwestern staff showed care and concern during the process. Once again, I'm floored by how awesome Northwestern can be a medical service provider. read more

Went to the optical center today. I've been going there for years. I've always dealt with Lisa and found her both friendly and knowledgeable. Today I spoke to Tiffany who was less than welcoming and informed me Lisa is no longer there. I told Tiffany my glasses were scratched and that I needed the lenses replaced and I had had the same replacement the year before with my previous glasses and that it hadn't cost me anything. Tiffany pulled-up my file and told me I hadn't bought the $35 warranty. I told her the warranty was on the transitions lenses I have and had previously been replaced free. I explained that Lisa had explained the frames were not covered without the $35 warranty (except for manufacturers defects) but that scratches on the lenses were because of the special coating. Tiffany's response, and the main reason I'm writing this review, was "well, maybe that's why Lisa doesn't work here anymore." Definitely not a professional response and one that would come back to bite her. After what I felt was some hesitation to do so, i insisted she take a look at what was done with the previous glasses. It confirmed the replacement and that I had not paid a $35 warranty charge. She then called her supervisor who didn't know either but suggested Tiffany call the lab. The lab confirmed that's there's free lense replacement with scratches with this product. Turns out Lisa was right after all. Had I not pushed, I would have with had to walk around with scratched glasses or paid a lot of money for new ones. These are products they 'push' when you buy your glasses....why do they not know the coverage provided by these products? It was an uncomfortable visit and I don't know that I'll be back to this office next checkup. read more

I've never had such a great ER experience. We had to take our 15 month old in who ended up being diagnosed with Roseola and everyone we met was understanding, professional, personable, and kind. Nurse Practitioner Kevin was so great with our daughter. We live in Lake Villa and could of went to a more local acute/ER but chose to try Grayslake and I am so glad we did. Yesterday my husband went in to see his doctor, he needed to go downstairs for a test. The man at the front leaning against front desk is a real jerk, and that's not the first time he has been rude to us. We went into room 2 to give our insurance information which they should already have since he was in the er a week previous, but she said they just switched computer systems the day before and it didn't carry it over. The lady was very kind, she needed help and the first lady that came in really didn't want to be there so she left and another lady came in. This place is terrible! Took my little one to the e.r today because he woke up with a swollen eye. The lady up front was rude, acted like it wasn't important. After waiting 45 minutes I went to the front to ask why we haven't even been seen or put in a room, she explained the nurses were busy and they were getting a room ready. As I was talking to her a nurse came out and called the lady who JUST walked in!! I looked at the lady and said you take adults over children???? AVOID THIS PLACE IF AT ALL POSSIBLE! MULTIPLE BAD EXPERIENCES This quote by famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright, pretty much sums up my experience with this facility: "Doctors can bury their mistakes, architects can only advise their clients to plant vines" Luckily I made it out alive, just barely. 1. Went here for lab for blood sodium levels. Registered in ER. Low sodium levels can cause irritability, moodiness, and seizures/loss of consciousness which can be fatal. Reaction is similar to low blood sugar in diabetics. I was experiencing extreme irritability. The gal in registration wrote on my lab orders that I was a "bad patient". About 15-20 minutes after I returned home (I live 5 min from there); my doctor calls me & says to go back to ER or call 911 immediately! My sodium level was 119, normal is 135-145.My levels were life threatening. Hello?! Registration staff are total morons. Had no clue about those orders, and have ZERO medical knowledge 2. Had Dr order a Cat Scan & EEG STAT (emergency) thru this ER on outpatient basis. Was told if felt worse to ask for ER dr. I felt worse when I arrived. I told registration all this & said I wanted to see Dr. So what does she do, she CANCELS the tests. I waited 20 minutes or more & still wasn't triaged. Finally get seen in room, where rude nurse told me "We don't do EEG here" and bitched at me about my med list not being current. Then I was left alone for 20 minutes. So I walked out & said to another nurse "what part of Cat Scan STAT don't you get?! I called my Dr from the ER parking lot & he thought it was terrible & offered to call 911 for me while I was in the ER Parking lot. Unbelievable. Totally ludicrous ER dept. 3. Had MRI in their NEW machine & experienced a life threatening emergency DURING the test which included loss of speech. (never found out if it was me, the machine or both because they wanted to put me back in the MRI to test me again. Hello I don't think so!) I was taken to ER. I repeatedly motion for pen & paper, never got any. Could barely get out names of my 3 Drs and jerky ER doctor says "I don't have time to call all those doctors" And he didn't, until I asked again repeatedly for about 1+ hrs later. They went into TOTAL CYA mode and I thought they were more interested in CYA than actually helping me. Worst ever ER. Northwestern is supposively known for "world class healthcare" however that's probably only true if you live in the right zip code, work at the right place & have right insurance. And it's obviously not world class care here by any stretch of the imagination. This facility should lose its accreditation. :( read more

NWLFH has clearly taken the compassion and human element out of their care, especially when it comes to the registration portion of the experience. I was late for an 8:00 am radiology appointment because I had to wait over 15 minutes to check in on a Saturday - the registration process took longer than the ultrasound. When I made the appointment, I spent time going over the countless details with the scheduler even though I have had numerous appointments at NWLFH over the past six months. When I finally was able to register, I had to recount the countless details I covered with the scheduler. For the very first in over the twenty years I have been a customer of LFH, the registrar asked me how I wanted to remit payment for the co-pay. My insurance card clearly states that there is no co-pay due at the time of service. In addition, one of the registrars was rather rude and had a rather superior attitude. The ultrasound technician was fabulous - she was compassionate and answered the numerous questions I had asked. It was more of an interactive experience instead of just a tech doing a test. It is a shame that the actual patient care is overshadowed by a registrar who wanted to discuss my financial ability to pay for my care in a very public forum. read more

I saw Dr Epstein. I have never felt so disrespected, unheard, and uncared for by a doctor in my life. He repeatedly interrupted me and made me feel stupid for even coming to the emergency room. Instead of apologizing when I expressed this to him, he said "that's your interpretation." My Sister was with me and he treated her the same way. Maybe he had treated my condition many times that day. It is the first time it happened to me in my life and i was anxious and scared. He had no concern for my questions or feelings. I felt like he did not want to take the time to treat me and was annoyed I even came in. He was extremely rude and condescending. I find it completely unacceptable. If he would have taken the time to listen and actually look at me, he would have found that what he was trying to tell me to do was actually the wrong thing. He did not examine me. He just talked with out hearing the full story. I was treated by another doctor the next day who informed me that what he was telling me to do was not going to help my situation. If he would have performed an actual examination of me he could have known this. I hope this facility holds him accountable for his lack of action and compassion for a patient. read more

I came in with a broken and dislocated elbow, in extreme pain and obviously needing immediate attention due to the distorted position of my arm. There was not a single person in the waiting room and I was told to sit down and wait and they would get to me as soon as they could. It was about 20 minutes before I was taken back to a room. Once back there I could see there was not a single other patient in the entire place. I have NO idea why I had to wait so long to get the help I needed. They had multiple doctors come in and do nothing other than introduce themselves to me and then each of them CHARGED me for the pleasure of an introduction and nothing else. Next time I'll drive the 30 minutes to another hospital. I doubt this place would treat you right away even if you were dying of a heart attack. The bill was over $5,000 for 2 Xrays, elbow reduction, a splint and ace bandages (I didn't even get a real cast), and 2 doses of pain meds. And I have health insurance. Our experience with the ER was quick, with very nice and helpful people. HOWEVER, we were told we had to go to the other hospital and that we MUST go in an ambulance, (private). This smells like a scam. They put in an iv just to take blood for tests, and then used the iv as the reason we must take the ambulance, instead of my driving him there. $1338 for a 12 mile ride. Murphy Ambulance is so RUDE. Attempts to talk to the hospital about that experience just elicited the standard, "We don't have anything to do with that, its a private ambulance service." Two doctors told me I needed to go to an E.R. because I had a serious kidney infection and they acted like it wasn't a big deal, granted it was not life threatening, but they treated me like I had a paper cut. Now, what do you know, I had to go back to the doctor and now I'm headed back to the E.R. For an ultrasound because they didn't do it while I was there two days again. The only nurse who treated me well was a lady named Val. This place sucks. read more
