I have stayed in the Northwoods Inn many times over the last 30 years but never again and I mean never.
It's been as cold as -39 C for a few days and when we checked into two rooms there on Saturday night the heater was broken in one room. The room they finally begrudgingly moved me into and my friends room both had the heaters turned off, not just down, OFF. The heater in my room quit during the night too. I woke up shivering. I've had arthritis for thirty years and I am and will be a mess for at least a few days because I didn't move to a different hotel instead of staying and putting up with the place.
The hallways were so cold you could see your breath. Rooms were not only cold but not very clean, the sheets on my bed had big round black stains on them. The ceilings in the room, the bathroom and the hallways all show water damage. this doesn't surprise me, I bet the plumbing is freezing and leaking.
We went to the lounge while waiting for some heat to accumulate in the rooms. The lounge although not very busy was filthy and there was not one clean table out of the ten or so empty and no one offered to clean one or serve us. We left the lounge and gave up on getting any service there.
This used to be a premier establishment back in the boom days, now it's just a run down dive.
Never again.
