I've had some pretty sketchy experiences with moving companies, particularly of the long haul…read morevariety. Longer than estimated arrival times, poor communication and of course huge cost overruns. I had basically completed an international move back to the US by selling every piece of furniture and boxing all my personal items and sent them through the mail. THAT'S how much I do not like moving/shipping companies. A friend of mine suggested Amtrak freight service where I could just drop off my boxes and be done with it. Google showed me Busfreighter and Isaw they had a door to door option where they offered door to door service. Great! I booked a date/time for pick up and figured that would be that. I started reading the Yelp reviews and got worried. Sure my stuff was still sitting in my HK shipping boxes but after reading some horror stories I started freaking out...then I started reading some of the reviews and got some tips: 1) Shrink wrap all your boxes. None of my boxes had holes/tears/foreign objects in it. Also, it was Chicago in winter so, it's good to have some kind of waterproofing. 2) Number your boxes. Got this tip from a reviewer here, that way boxes aren't lost in the shuffle. 2a) Go the extra mile and use something that stands out a bit. You can't see it from from my photos, but I used neon yellow sticky notes 3) Tape your shipping label on as many sides as possible. I put one on top and one on each 'face' of the box. Basically, the only part of the box that didn't get the shipping label treatment was the bottom. I had no issues during pick up. The courier arrived at the earlier end of the of the pick up time, which left me a little flat-footed and scrambling to finish my wrapping/taping. He was patient, said it would take time to load all the boxes anyway and let me take my time. Transit was just as easy. I actually had some last minute changes (my stupid fumble fingers mistyped my street number) and when I e-mailed in a panic, the response was fast and responsive. The only negative was the drop off. The drop off courier said that parking was difficult and asked if he could just drop it off at the front door of the apartment complex and not the front door to my apartment. I said I paid for door to door service and that's what I was expecting. He replied, 'it is door to door, just not your front door.' So, tip 4) If your courier tries to flip the script on you just stand your ground. I let him know that just dropping off in front was unacceptable and after saying he'd call his supervisor he eventually found parking and dropped off all my boxes with everything in it: clothes, glassware, kitchen appliances all arriving safe and sound.

So I have to leave a review because Bus Freighter has such horrible reviews but I has a really…read moregreat experience with them. I recently made a coast to coast move from LA to Tampa. Because of all the previous reviews I thought my boxes would at least take a month to make their way to me too Florida, but I was honestly was shooting really low and expecting my boxes to get to me in 2 months. I had my boxes picked up with door to door service on the 25th of October. I was worried because I wasn't sure how door to door service worked. After you purchase, you get an email with your order info and date for pickup. And an hour later BusFrieghter sends you your labels to stick on the boxes. But low and behold someone from BusFreighter came to my apartment to pick up the boxes within the time frame I scheduled for pickup. I later receive a call the following week on October 31st and it's GPX (Greyhound Express) letting me know my boxes have reached Tampa and they'd like to schedule a time to drop of my boxes. I was so surprised to receive that call, because it was ONLY A WEEK my boxes were in transit and they already came to my destination address!! When my boxes were dropped off, a nice man dropped off my boxes right inside my home and my boxes were in pristine condition! Nothing was broken and everything came in one piece. BUT I CANT BELIEVE EVERYTHING CAME IN ONE WEEK COAST TO COAST AND EACH BOX I SHIPPED WAS OVER 70 POUNDS!! Here are some tips I got from previous reviewers to pack my boxes. 1) I bought very sturdy boxes, DO NOT BE CHEAP with the boxes you ship (I bought boxes from the Asian market because those boxes are very sturdy because those boxes are shipped overseas) 2) I used 3mm clear masking tape. For 6 extra large Boxes, I used about 8 rolls to tape everything up. USE ALL THE TAPE!! 3) Saran Wrap your boxes with clear furniture wrap!! This helps water proof your boxes. I saran wrapped my boxes probably 4 times over and then on top Of the Saran Wrap, I tape over it to secure the clear wrap. 4) labels - I put 12 labels on each box that BusFreighter sends you to avoid any type of confusion. and avoid my boxes getting lost!! I put 3 labels on each side of the box!!! 5) Number each box! 1 of 6, 2 of 6 etc 6) AGIAN USE ALL THE TAPE!! DO NOT SKIMP OR BE CHEAP ABOUT THE TAPE YOU USE!!! Once busfrieghter picks up your boxes and drops them off at Greyhound, GPX will then be in charge of them and any questions you have, call GPX only NOT Busfrieghter! I would definitely use Busfreighter again!! It was cheap and easy to use there service!! Plus my boxes arrived from the west coast to east coast in one week!! I can't tell you enough how happy I am with the service I was provided for the price. Also door to door service is very worth the price too pay!!

Every visit was captured on Ring cameras while our family was out of the country. The aggressive pounding on the door was enough to scare our house and dog sitter, who was staying at the home while we were away. They used deceptive tactics in an attempt to get a response regarding court paperwork connected to a case that has absolutely nothing to do with us. They repeatedly showed up at our property at all hours of the day (830-9pm--unacceptable!) and engaged in behavior that was more like stalking and harassment than professional process serving. I have video evidence of the repeated visits, aggressive knocking, wild rhetoric, and attempts to peer into my home. If this is how this company conducts business, people should be aware before hiring them. Should this happen again, we will contact law enforcement and provide the footage for harassment concerns. Avoid.
