Departures were on the second floor and most people were just checking in on the self service terminals. Baggage tags also printed there and we then had to self drop the bags. Scan each tag and then the machine trundled it away. Security was the slowest with only two lines open. Fast track line was wide open for paying customers. Also people were transferring their small liquid containers into plastic baggies. After security it was easily to walk to the gate. The international gates were the farthest away but only about five minutes of walking. Lots of restaurants located along with upper floors for sit down eating. Water refill stations on each side of the terminal were convenient. Bathrooms were clean and no lines. Seating areas by the gates were quite standard. I know they said to be here at least two hours shared of time but we had a lot more free time to kill while waiting for our flight.

The tram dropped me off at the basement level of the airport. Bag drop with the airline was fully automated, making it quick and easy. Security took a little bit, due to the manual inspection of my bags after the x-ray. There was a cafe right next to security serving full hot breakfast which was a great way to start my day. Surprisingly, their machine coffee was also decent. Breakfast was pricey, as expected at an airport, but the quality was surprisingly decent. Used the water closet after breakfast and was surprised by the cleanliness as well as the quality of the toilet supplies, from toilet paper, hand soap, to paper towels. I can see the Norwegian standard of living is quite high. Boarding of my flight was pretty much automated using a screen and e-gates.

We had booked a small cabin that was just too small for two people to be moving in at the same time. I went to the front desk to ask about an upgrade and that worked. Yes, I had to pay for the upgrade but we ended up opting for a mini-suite. This had a king size bed and a TV that was two scenes, one facing the bed and the other facing the couch. Also a nice bar area, but standard ship sized bathroom. Very comfy and worth the price paid. Meals were centralized, buffet and were excellent as to variety & quality. Our group had arranged for a beverage for each person at every lunch and dinner, so wine, beer or soft drink were included. This is a working ferry that stops many times day and night to take on or drop off pass angers, mail and/or equipment. After the first night, we never heard the docking and departure noises. The coast of Norway is vast with many settlements along it. Some are too small for anything large to dock and others just large enough. The in and out of port work is amazing to watch. Very efficient. The ship has outdoor seating areas and indoor cafes, ice cream shop, bars and gift shops. There is an optional restaurant where you seat in a separate area, order from their menu an are served away from the mass feeding in the main dining room. Crew is exceptionally nice, courteous and accommodating. There was at least one port of call where we could leave the ship for a few hours to see sights and history. We would do it again, maybe traveling from north to south on another Norway trip. Highly recommended.

We did a one night cruise as our way to travel from Bergen to Alesund Norway. It was about a 13…read morehour journey. We did get a cabin with an outside window. It was a small very basic cabin. You won't confuse this with a big cruise line. We did notice that some people did not get cabins and just slept overnight in lounge chairs in the one lounge. Not sure how many nights they allow that. If on a budget I could see why because for two of us (no food included) it was nearly $800. Without cabin it would be around $212! The ship is relatively small compared to the giants on the sea these days. We wandered around the ship it's nothing fancy. We slept OK but since it pulls into different ports in the middle of the night it can be loud. At least the seas were calm. We did eat at their buffet that evening and it was just OK. Not the best for $65 a person. We decided to skip breakfast since that buffet was close to $38. We spent the morning watching the beautiful Norwegian coast pass by before disembarking in Alesund at 10am. As a way to travel between these towns it's not cheap but a fun adventure!

While the website gave some issues booking online, there area kiosks immediately in front of where the bus parks at Bergen Airport. This gives you the chance to quickly purchase tickets in person. No problem bringing your checked bags and carry on luggage with you. It's a large bus with plenty of seats. While there are taxis, rail, and other forms of transportation, Flybussen probably gives you the bus value - as it's an express bus, but less than the cost of a taxi. No reservations are required, simply show up to the bus stop/airport with your one way or return trip ticket in hand. Check the website or ask the drivers to confirm pick up times. They do run often, but return trips from Bryggen to the airport can take a good one hour, since Bryggen is the first stop - and there are multiple stops along the way before getting to the airport, so you want to plan accordingly. Overall I give Flybussen 5 stars out of 5.

If you pay by cash, you buy tickets from the driver. They offer student tickets too but I'm not sure what the restrictions are. This bus terminal is located next to the train station. Before you can find platform N, there's an electronic map somewhere easily visible telling you how to get there. Basically once you pass the train station, keep walking straight and turn right somewhere. Also, it helps to just follow those with suitcases haha. Didn't take the bus here to elsewhere, but it seems to be a very organized bus terminal with everything laid out. The map is a big plus.

They appear priced commensurate with the local economy - a sort of red bus equivalent to the insightful Big Mac Index (if you've not heard of this index do look it up). This 13 stop tour was £33 a person, is mildly interesting and takes about 40 slow minutes as the centre is narrow and windy. The WiFi didn't work and sometimes the growl of the engine made the recorded guide piped through earphones hard to hear. Added to this the seats are uncomfortable and as the bus drove the pre recorded guide voice stopped mid sentence and jumped to describe the next site as some are so close together. So we missed out on full descriptions. The WiFi didn't work either. This tour was only tipped over to being worth it as it brought us back to the ship once we finished exploring. We did an exceptional red bus tour in York England about 6 weeks ago for £12 that had a wonderful human guide and all worked. We sat through all 13 Bergen stops and then stayed on to return to the one we decided to see first. In our case it was the last one, stop 13. Once we were done meandering we hopped on to return to stop 8 - near the port to return to Norwegian Prima whose captain on this trip is also a very proud Norwegian. Bergen, birthplace of Edvard Grieg and Ludvig Holberg is Norway's second largest city yet the centre is quaint, small and very hilly in places. We stopped by St. Mary's Church as it is the only remaining of the twelve churches and three monasteries that were built in Bergen; it's the oldest building in Bergen and about a 1,000 years old. It also has the Fløibanen funicular which takes about 8 minutes to go to the top of Mount Fløyen to see across the city and beyond. £11 return for 1,000 feet each way. Bergen is Norway's largest fish producer and centre for aquaculture a trade that sustains Norway (with oil and gas for now) and it worth billions annually. The fish market is worth a visit but dining there will not be cheap - if you stay with cod it's about £25 a person for lunch but this can about double for Alaskan snow crab and lobster. English is widely spoken. The locals are polite and the city is beautifully manicured. Expect to pay about £4 for coffee, £4 for a pastry with higher cafe prices to sit in rather than take away.
