My wife (a runner and long distance bicyclist), had left foot and ankle reconstruction surgery in August of last year by Dr. Arcand. She has made a remarkable recovery and is eyeing her bike as her physical therapy professes as I am eyeing my old golf clubs that I haven't picked up in five years. Isn't that what's it's all about? First, I'm a big guy. 6'5 and 300#. I fell on the ice 4 months ago and fractured (broke) my fibula. The ER put a half cast on it and I saw Dr. Arcand a few days later for a boot. The next visit was a couple of weeks later and the RNP gave me an ankle brace and told me to switch to this as much as I could tolerate. This is at a point when I could still feel the jagged point of the bone under the skin and see the gap in the fracture on the xray. It was very obvious. I made an appointment to see Arcand again which I got in about 2 weeks. She told me it was fine and prescribed a bone stimulator and told me to come back in 3 months. I felt like I was being a problem patient and was being blown off. The months passed with no contact in between. Now 4 months later, I have a knot where the break is, very sore to touch. I can only walk, with a limp, 50 feet or so without having to stop and give it a break. When I went to the appointment, I arrived 15 minutes early, checked in and paid the copay. An hour later, I left without ever seeing anyone. I did get my copay back before I left. I did finally get a phone call from them wanting me to reschedule. I politely informed them that the care I received wasn't worth the first trip to their office; it certainly wasn't worth a second. Do like I'm doing...find someone else. read more

This place needs a negative option for reviews 1 is too generous. Referred to Jonathan Piposar - I'm not even giving him respect by calling him a DR. He completely dismissed my complaints, misdiagnosed my condition and was completely unprofessional, like I was wasting his time. "Just give it a couple of weeks" he says. Two weeks later I went to see a nerve specialist for testing and then a real Doctor who said I needed urgent surgery that I should have had weeks ago, to repair an already severly compressed nerve. If I listend to Piposar, I wouldn't have the use of my hand today. read more

I have a rare muscle wasting disease called Inclusion Body Myositis (IBM). I fell on Saturday injuring both feet. I was seen by Dr. Arcand. Went couple years ago, wouldn't take my anthem blue cross insurance, said wait a couple years until your on Medicare, waited in major pain, now don't take my Medicare plan. Fix that and now they won't see me because I canceled an appointment a year earlier. Now I can't work and will lose my business, never thought people could be that cruel. Completely mercenary practice. Their primary concern is not the welfare of patients but taking their money. The person at the front desk even has "finance" on her name tag, which says it all. The first question they ask is not what issue you are there for but how are you paying? Even after you have established that you are fully covered by your insurance they try to get you to pay an additional 200$ " because you have not met your deductible". I explained to her that I do not have a deductible on my insurance and that I only had to pay a 45$ copay. What they don't tell you is that the deductible is their practice's own policy. They want to hijack 200$ of your money and hold on to it in case they are not satisfied that they can milk as much as possible from your insurance. I didn't even get beyond the phone call I made to inquire if their orthopedic urgent care walk-in took my health insurance. I spoke to a less than cordial receptionist named Justine who assured me that I would "only be seen by a PA" and that I would probably be asked to come back and visit one of the physicians the following week. She then went on to tell me that I would probably have to pay a great deal out of pocket for my deductible. I never got a chance to say which insurance I had. When I responded that I do not have a deductible, only a per visit co-pay, she said, "Well, we'll see." Based on this woman's attitude, I will take my chances with the emergency room. At this moment the physical therapist is working with my elderly mother who is suffering the effects of two botched surgeries by Norwich Orthopedic Group surgeons including the latest hip replacement fiasco. The hip replacement was necessitated by an earlier surgery gone wrong that inserted screws in her hip to repair a slight hip fracture. The sad part is that this first surgery WAS NOT necessary but was almost forced on my mother and my family with an extremely hard sell at the hospital. All to keep the elderly surgery assembly line in motion. My recommendation is do not rush into surgery no matter how "urgent" the doctors say you need it. There's always time for a second opinion (except in some actual emergencies) and make sure the second opinion is not from surgeons affiliated in any way with the clinic you're dealing with (on or off the golf course.) read more

I was having back problems. Trying to find someone who was helping and considerate that something was hurting & very wrong here. I'm only 25, I should not feel like there is moments where I'm paralyzed. The front desk was attentive and very quick compared to the amount of people waiting in line & the waiting room was very clean. That's a four/five star quality. But if anyone who cared was actually your doctor, then he wouldn't be the guy who I went to a little over a week ago. He shoved my case aside like I didn't matter, because I was nothing to him. Avoid this place at all costs... go to a walk-in clinic! My wife went there and was diagnosed with "Mallet Finger". They put a cheap splint on her finger and sent her on her way. Then charged $1,400. I tried to negotiate the bill and they wouldn't budge. Absolutely absurd!! read more

I'll give them a couple stars because doctor and physical therapist seem knowledgeable. But the place is a factory, your visits are rushed, their billing department is messed up and there was zero personal interest or compassion in PT. Perhaps that doesn't bother you. Like I said, they seem fairly knowledgeable so I will go back for the short term until I find better. read more

I've read the reviews about the office staff. I agree but I would not let that stop you from seeing one of the Doctors. Dr. Thoms replaced my hip and Dr. Unbari sees to my other aches and pains. They are amazing doctors who really care. read more

This place is a joke. The receptionist is rude and very unprofessional. Avoid at all cost.

They were extremely rude and did not seem to listen to me whatsoever. They were very in and out, and at one point stated that it did not look like I had a fracture in my ankle, even though I was not in there for a fracture, but ligament injuries. I explained that to them for around 2 minutes, and that was her response. Once I was fitted for a brace, the woman fitting me was extremely rude and did not tell me how to properly use the brace. She then told me that I had to wear a sneaker while wearing the brace, which is understandable, but once I told her that I was unable to walk without any support, she then said "Maybe if you weren't so over weight and lazy this would not be a problem". She then walked out, and I left. It was one of the most insulting visits of my life, and I will not recommend this group to anyone. read more

This place is hit or miss. Some of the doctors are great, but then others think they can get by on their looks and do a half-assed job on your care. And don't bother calling them for an after-hours urgent problem for your child. I waited an hour for a call back and my kid has probably developed gangrene by now. The after-hours operator is also quite unpleasant. You're a doctor- you make more than God. Be availability for your patients and maybe you'll get more than a two-star rating. read more

Had fractured finger as was noted by urgent care the night before. They recommended follow up with an orthopedic. Went to Dr. Wei the next day. He reviewed the xrays (which I brought with me as they had been completed the night before at the Urgent Care) after looking at the xrays and the fingers he agreed with the Urgent Care and rewrapped my fingers in the splint from the urgent care and said to come back in a month at which time he would assess it again to see if surgery would be needed. Weeks later I get the bill. They coded it as in office surgery/surgical consultation and charged $1000 for the 20 minute doctor visit. Not only did he not diagnose a need or lack there of for surgery but to code it that way is a scam. I even gave them a chance to do the right thing and code it correctly for what they did and they refused. People like this are the reason healthcare is unreasonable today. read more

Great bunch of doctors!!! I have had my shoulders decompressed which is a major surgery a well as being treated for carpal tunnel, later epicondylitis and plantar fasciitis in addition to my chronic neck and back pain and they all really care with a treatment that includes physical therapy not just a pill and go away!!! After being treated I have always felt better and been able to get back to my normal activities!!! I highly recommend them!!! But you will have to wait for an appointment to be seen and then in the waiting room before you are seen. Not a horrible amount of time. 2 weeks to be seen and then about 1/2 an hour wait before you are seen for your appointment in the waiting room. read more

As an employer, I'm seeking the best medical care for my injured workers, and Norwich Orthopedic Group has proven to be very inefficient in the handling and managing my employees to medical needs. This place was recommended by Backus Hospital for a consultation. I went and decided to get a second opinion. They have a code they use and billed my insurance almost 3k for the visit which left me holding the bag for about 1200.00 when I called they said this includes future visits up to 90 days. I said I don't need any, it was a waste of time. Pick a different place not this one. read more

I have seen two doctors in this practice and taken family members there several times. The experiences have generally been good. But the front desk is not so good. and that can, as I recently learned, have an effect on the healthcare you will get there. This practice has yet another new automated software system in place. All this new one did for me was to create a wasted visit where the doctor was treating a problem I didn't have. It all got straightened out later, but it wasn't the best experience I ever had there. If you check out the website of Norwich Orthopedic's latest health care robot, Phreesia, this is what it offers: "Phreesia's innovative point-of-service platform drives efficiency and profitability throughout your organization. Your patients expect a seamless, automated experience from other industries. Why should your front office be any different?" So a word of warning to Yelpers: keep your eye on the Phreesia and on your doc til this newest automated gadget ends up in the scrap pile with the other ones they have used.
