Children grow and thrive in this school. It is located in the middle of the park, providing a lot of space for kids to run and free-play in the fresh air of the park. My kid has been attending this school for 2 years now, and just loves it. For a pre-k school, kids have several field trips such as the pumpkin patch in October, posting letters at the post office in December, learning about healthy food at WholeFoods, having a petting zoo come to the school, learning about nature at the Audubon Park, and meeting firemen at the local forestation. Music lessons and story time from Imagination stage build up their creativity and confidence, which is showcased during the Halloween/Valentine's Day/Mother's Day party. The school offers also lunch bunch, which is from 12-2.30pm, for those who would like to keep their child longer at school. Every month the teachers introduce a different theme to their students, such as the human body, outer space, community workers, recycling etc.. My child has grown a lot thanks to the teaching in this school. They are taught how to respect one another, share their toys, and the butterfly group (3-4 year olds) are responsible for different tasks every week (such as making sure all crayons are in box) to teach them the importance of responsibility. This is a small pre-K school and is jointly run by the director, the board (made up of parents) and a human resources manager. Having been part of the board, I can say that throughout the year there is constant communication between all different parties of the leadership that not only sustains the efficient running of the school, but also maintains a positive atmosphere that Norwood Park Preschool is well known for. I would definitely recommend this school due to its location in the middle of Norwood Park, its wonderful educational curriculum and most of all, the family atmosphere present. read more

BCC Coop Nursery School is fabulous. The teachers have decades of experience and are very loving and devoted. My son went for 2 years. I was in the school with the teachers co-oping several dozen times over the years and learned so much from those teachers. I'm so impressed with them. They love my son so much and still do. And he loves visiting them. People need to know that Child Protective Services investigated the incident Rebecca G reported, and found no evidence of abuse and reinstated the teacher. People also need to know that the child had been kicked out of 2 previous nursery schools and was being asked to leave this one too because the child is uncontrollable. If I were a teacher facing a kicking and flailing out of control kid, I too would pick him up in whatever means I could without being kicked to pieces and that might mean by his waist pant. Remember, this is a kid who had been kicked out of 2 previous nursery schools. While pre-schoolers can be unreasonable, most are not out of control. The family should spend more time getting help for their kid who has now been kicked out of 3 schools, and less time on yelp criticizing the latest school. Get that kid some help; he's got to learn self-control before Kindergarten starts. Everyone I know in the neighborhoods around BCC loves BCC Coop Nursery School. I can't wait to send my next baby to Kathy and Ellen. They love children so much and know so much about kids. I'm a better parent because of learning from Ellen and Kathy. read more

My daughter went to Norwood Park Preschool for 1.5 years, from when she was 2.5 to almost 4 years old (Jan 2017 - June 2018). It's been a great experience for her - she frequently chatters about her school friends and teachers with excitement. I especially love that the kids spent a bunch of time outside in the park, both for free play and guided exploration/lessons, as well as all the occasions that they do arts/crafts - making turtles from recycled materials, or mobiles from branches and yarn, etc. The teachers and supporting staff are young, energetic and very calm when setting expectations and enforcing guidelines with the kids. (They also all speak Spanish fluently, which has been great for our spanish speaking diplomatic families, whose kids experience a gentler language transition to english). I think the school has some space for improvement in the area of administrative organization. Part of the school operations are run by the School Board - an annually elected board from the school's parents. So the effectiveness of operations depends on how available and engaged the parent volunteers are, as well as the strength of their organization and leadership skills. So sometimes, the school operations are just good enough - a lot of things get organized and done, but many at the very last moment. For 2018-2019 academic year, the school board is composed of some powerhouse individuals - I expect them to bring a lot of energy, initiative and leadership to their work. :) read more

I sent both my children there. Best school I saw after looking at several. 2 teachers act also as director and asst. director and have run the school for over 20 years. Such a feeling of light and caring I was so comfortable leaving my children there, I wished the teachers would expand the school into elementary grades! I am not sure about Sara P.,sounds like she is not part of the school? All I can say is that I have never witnessed harsh treatment of any child in 4 years of being part of the school. Students who come out of the school into kindergarten are recognized by the public school teachers as being from BCC because of the great sense of confidence and participation they freely exhibit once starting elementary. And as a parent, I have had a kicking and screaming son, and needed to move him from point a to point b. I am quite sure it did not look pretty to anyone watching. You would think I was pulling out his toenails! But really, I just couldn't leave him on the other side of the street a minute longer, cause I had to get my daughter of the bus across the street. I only offer this as a possible mis-read of the situation because of my trust and understanding of the teachers. I have seen a child punch the teacher/director, and her expression did not change, no hand was ever lifted. Just a time out of sorts and a patient approach during a quiet moment later to understand where the anger he was displaying came from. read more

B-CC Nursery School is a wonderful nurturing school. Kathy (the director) and Ellen are two of the most gifted teachers I have met raising my three children. My chidlren Henry and Lily LOVED this school and both of them still call Kathy and Ellen the best teachers they ever had. What is truly unique is that they take each child as he or she is, are endlessly patient and bring out the very best in the child. They are also trained educators and I would trust them completely with my children. During the crisis of 911 and afterwards, Kathy volunteered to stay with every child until a parent was there to pick them up--even if it put her own safety at risk and even though she had a son in high school at the time. Sign up early because there is always a waiting list. Wonderful coop atmosphere--great place to make friends for moms and kids--parents are always welcome in and around the school. BCC Norwood Nursery School is fantastic! (It is under new management since the previous review post 2012!) We recently moved from overseas, and as you can imagine it can be quite stressful, especial with 3 little ones. We needed to find a preschool for our 4 yo, so we did some asking around in the local area and we were told about BCC Norwood Nursery. From the moment we went for the tour we knew we had found the one. My daughter LOVES this Preschool! The environment is very nurturing. Each day, my daughter learns so much, while being provided with the perfect balance of structure and independence. There is nothing like the incomparable warmth of the teachers and staff to whom we confidently entrust our child every day. We have now enrolled our youngest (2 yo). I would definitely recommend you check the Preschool out for yourself. It is also a wonderful place to meet new families and make great friendships. read more

LOVE THIS SCHOOL. Our 2 sons attended This nursery school and loved it. My children were always safe and I was ALWAYS welcome to stay as long as I wanted to. That said, I have spent quite a bit of time at this school and with the teachers and trust them completely. We chose this co-op because it is older and very outdoor oriented. When on the playground, the kids are well supervised with both teachers and 1-2 co-oping parents. I like that it is in our neighborhood park and that the school is more like a comfortable home than a office. The teachers are great at encouraging imaginative play and my 8 year old will still strike a yoga pose learned during "lunch bunch" . Schools like this are hard to find and we feel lucky to have had Ms. Kathy & Ms. Ellen be part of our kids childhood. read more

Our family loves the Little Green school house in the park. Both our children attended the school and they became extremely attached to the routines of the school day from Big Wheels on the blacktop at the beginning to 'circle' at the end. The teachers have a long and deep understanding of the age they are working with and the children find themselves in a small community where they are respected, encouraged, cared for and, especially, listened to. This school helps all the children articulate what is on their minds. Most of all though is that the teaching philosophy is based on sharing-- whether it is a story, a book, or knowledge-- as the most natural thing in the world. My two sons attended the BCC Coop, the little green house in the park, as they call it. The place is well run and educational. In fact, one of my sons says he was at his smartest when he attended the school. He knew everything there was to know about dinosaurs, bugs, birds, plants, books and music. The two teachers at the heart of the school are gentle and loving. Norwood park is an extension of the school, used as a playground and as an out door classroom. Kids let off steam first thing in the morning zooming around the green top surface near the school on big wheels. Circle time inside sets the tone and theme for the day. Every moment of the day brings out a child's imagination and sense of wonder. read more

My child, a boy, attended this coop for 3 years and we loved it, loved the little house in the middle of a park where the school is held, loved the warm teachers, who would get down on the floor and play with the kids and provide great advice for any problem, loved the co-op atmosphere with 2 parents helping out every day from start to finish, loved the games and reading and prjects, loved the opening 20 minutes when the kids got to ride trikes and play with balls as parents lingered to chat after dropping their child off. My son made lifelong friends at BCC nursery, as did I. Fantastic place. read more

I had my two children at BCC Coop Nursery School for four years. My eldest attended at the recommendation of a friend, and when it was time for my younger child to go, I had the experience to fully appreciate how truly lucky he was to attend this particular preschool. In all its activities, the school models caring, respect and genuine interest in, and appreciation of, each individual child, all while keeping a practiced eye on safety and health. Sending my kids to this preschool when they were 3 and 4 years old is definitely on my shortlist of best things I've ever done for my kids. read more

I have been at BCC Nursery School for 4 years now and this is the most loving and supportive environment a parent can ask for for his or her child. The teachers at this school have a way of creating a magical learning environment for the children and care deeply about the development of each individual child. Dozens and dozens of people I know who have had children go through this school say the exact same thing, and it is all due to the teachers there. Two of my kids attended this wonderful co-op nursery school and still go back to visit when they can. The teachers have a warm and nurturing approach and my kids loved to rush off to school to see what they were going to investigate that day: owls? Sweden? earthworms? The physical building is a little dilapidated but the experience is still magical and the teachers are the best. This is a co-op so there is heavy parental involvement in running the nursery school and helping out in the classroom. read more

We have sent our son to BCC/Norwood Nursery School for a year and will be enrolling both him and his brother this coming year. The school is amazing - Maribel and her group of professional educators are loving and caring and have developed an amazing, thoughtful curriculum for the children. The location can't be beat - the kids can run right out the door into Norwood park and the nearby playgrounds. It's a wonderful place for children, parents, and the community. read more

We've had our daughter here for a year and she loves it. So do we. It's a small, casual school with great community--all the parents know each other and are involved. There is no bureaucracy. Maribel (the Director) is accessible and great with the kids, as are the other teachers. We love that it's set in the middle of a huge park so the kids get a lot of outdoor time. My daughter attended BCC Nursery School. It was just plain wonderful for her. The learning environment was fun, creative, nurturing. It was a perfect place to grow and develop the skills, knowledge and confidence necessary to succeed in school and in life.
