It's hard enough knowing that you have to leave your child over the course of a day, but to know that you have the best care possible for your child during the day helps alleviate so much of that stress. The Center does not just say they love children, what they want to do to improve or how the work aligns with the mission, but they show EACH of these things, with intention, every single day. And while I'm talking about the overall feel and experience of the center, there are so many additions that really take it to the next level. The offerings of ballet, karate, an amazing plyometrics program, and music, all of it offered from phenomenal external entities as a formal class that help keep your weekends, a little more open. And for more ease, if you struggle to pack lunch every day, a catered lunch option is available. There is differentiated instruction that allows for all students to feel safe and seen. They graduated from Norbeck as confident and emotionally strong with a strong academic foundation in math, reading and writing with enthusiasm and curiosity for art, creativity, music, science and geography. It was a very positive environment with highly experienced teachers focusing on the overall development of the children. The head of the school, Melissa Matthews, does an outstanding job managing the school and the teachers ensure that the kids are not just on par with but are also excelling beyond expectations in several elements. Discipline and kindness towards others are strongly encouraged and the children really have a lot of fun while learning. We highly recommend this school and glad that our family had the Norbeck experience.

However, the pre-primary team did a ton of fun ice-breaking exercises with the kids, including sending a book home with individual photos of each child. Our daughter was thrilled to 'read' the book to us and tell us the names of all of her new friends! We have also had some interactions with the other teachers through Norbeck's summer camp, and our experiences with them have been terrific as well.

If she's in the wrong, which is often, she will just start an argument until she thinks she's won. - Jasmyn Butler is loud and does not discipline her own kids that go there, but is quick to yell at another kid. -Kierra Tongue threatens 5 year olds that are being mean to her daughter. -They do not like to be called out on their BS, they will make it hell for you to bring your child. -There is no structure in any of the older classrooms; infants & tods are great really. -Way too much personal drama going on in front of the kids. -Communication at the center is terrible between management and staff && management and families. -The director, whatever Jasmyn's position is, and the two team leads consistently leave the center to go have drinks (while still on the clock), leaving the phone with another staff member and the front desk empty. Their response and action essentially caused emotional damage to my child that they continue to talk about 6 months later. There are no safety measures on campus, as a parent, I was never informed about any procedures - fire drills, armed strangers on campus or active shooters, nothing. Before and after care is basically outdoor play with little supervision (depending on the teacher). If I had known about the quality of the education, the lack of safety, lack of support for IEPs...I would never have enrolled them. Learn from my mistake and find another school or daycare for your child/children

The kids are generally exposed to other languages because the language teachers are "present throughout the summer program" and "language exposure is offered through basic words/phrases, songs and cultural exploration". Though I would prefer formal language instruction during the summer, I realize they're aiming to work with a mixed level group because some of their campers aren't the same kids they have during the school year where language learning takes place more often and more formally. In other words, some children come to the camp without knowing any other language besides English and each week different children may be enrolled. I ask my child all the time if they enjoy the camp and always inquire about the details of their day. My child has nothing but good things to say. They always come home with arts, crafts, and tales of adventures in the pool, playground, or specialty events such as the occasional soccer, puppet show, or whatnot. The main reason I enrolled my child is because they were very bored at their school-year daycare, started to get into a bit of trouble because of it, and complained about the other kids being "mean" and hitting sometimes and all of that. I knew my little one needed a change of pace so I sought to put them into what looked like a strong activity-based and high-engagement summer program. My child needs a lot of constant engagement, stimulation, and encouragement and my little one is certainly receiving that at Spring Bilingual. As I shared before, my child speaks with excitement about their day and has nothing but good things to say about the teachers and other campers. This camp has been a very good fit for my child right now; albeit the lack of formal language instruction. The staff is friendly, and my energetic child has made friends and is happy to be dropped off each morning. Each day my child comes home safe and tired.

When my daughter was placed in a new classroom, she had been there for less than a full day before we began receiving calls asking us to pick her up because she was "not listening to instructions." As any parent knows, transitions to a new classroom can be challenging for young children. It typically takes time for them to feel comfortable with new teachers, classmates, and expectations. Instead of allowing her a reasonable adjustment period or working with us on strategies to help her settle in, the school seemed irritated by the situation and quick to remove her from the classroom. We were hoping the staff would demonstrate patience, professionalism, and a child-centered approach--giving her at least a week or two to adapt to the new environment. Unfortunately, that level of support and understanding was not demonstrated. Repeated calls to pick her up after such a short time in the classroom made it feel like the priority was convenience rather than helping a child succeed. Every child deserves educators who are willing to guide them through transitions with patience and care. We had hoped for a more supportive and professional approach from the school in ensuring that our child had the opportunity to adjust and thrive.

The teachers are phenomenal and the campus is clean and neat. School communications are clear and prompt, there's always someone there to answer questions or concerns. One of my favorite parts of JBS Silver Spring is the community. We have met life-long friends both for the kids and us parents. Often when a child leaves JBS Silver Spring, we stay in touch with the family since the kids build such a close bond. I can't imagine us being anywhere else, it's truly our dream school come true.
