I really think it's best to leave it to the experts though - and Kate seems to have a way with dogs - I'm sure any nervous pooch will be won over by her charm in no time at all. The business caters for large and small dogs and offers a variety of services including grooming, clipping, hydrobath and blow dry. The prices are very reasonable. The groomers looked OK. Clean walls, good stock of food and the man who greeted us seemed nice. The man was wearing 7/8th length cargo shorts with Rivers version of ugly crocs. This should have sent alarm bells already. He asked what we wanted and I said, " just a little bit of a trim to neaten him up". Keep in mind he is naturally a very fluffy little puppy with hair length of approximately 2 and half inches. He said to us, "OK, sure- just leave it up to me". I got the call to say he was ready to get picked up. I arrived there and to my absolute HORROR, my puppy got shaved and was left with hair length of approximately 8mm. To say I was devastated would be an understatement. I took him from the groomer and sat with my puppy in the car as I let my mum 'talk' to the man. Don't get me wrong, my dog might feel nice and breezy now that it's summer, so it's not that, that I'm angry about. It is the fact we were not informed or asked for permission to go ahead and shave him. Most respectable groomers make sure they discuss the grooming with the owners. Unfortunately, not this one. From this experience alone, I would not recommend this place purely because the customer service was poor and left me disappointed.

"But" I think its harsh to slander these Groomers out when they only have the pets Interest at heart. I to had taken Buddy there the first time with a long coat, but he was infested with fleas ones I couldn't see, so they explained to me when I went to pick him up that he needed to be shaved back to a number 1 cut. Buddy is Bichon Frise x. I find also there not like other Groomers or Vets where there out to make a quick buck, or try to push you into buying things from there shop. They have an extensive range of beds, bowls, leashes (big range of Puppia harnesses), medication, toys, treats, grooming aides - pretty much everything you'd need. The prices seem pretty reasonable too. Up the back are the puppies. They were pretty vocal when I was there, but the cages looked large and clean and nothing smelled bad. What I really liked was how the puppies were behind a gate, with big signs asking you to get a sales assistant if you wanted to look. All the cages had signs warning not to touch as the puppies aren't fully vaccinated yet. I know that your average pet shop wouldn't take that much care with a puppy's health so I took that as a good sign. They also do grooming, I have my dog booked in for the works package - she's about 8 kg's and they're charging me $55 for hydrobath, clip, toenails and ears. With optional bow (I said no, my dog is a Pomeranian cross and already looks girly enough).

You can't pet them unless you're serious about buying one, and you have to spray your hands with sanitiser before they let you near a pup. We weren't even in the market for a puppy. The second time we came here, we bought one. How silly of us, but do we regret it? 6 years later, he is the best puppy we have ever gotten. The only one we have ever bought together actually. They don't get their dogs from puppy farms here, but from breeders from Melbourne and Sydney. The puppies are flown in, dates are on their websites as to which breeds are expected when, and they are super strict about disease control, vaccination and worming. Chipping as well if you want that too prior to picking your pup up. This little centre is pretty surprisingly popular, most popular breeds like your labradoodle and pug go pretty quickly as soon as they arrive (pre-order your pups apparently) and you can trust that you will get papers and a good legit non-puppy farmed dog from here, unlike other places. To top it off, they have cat, bird and other pet supplies too, a great range of leads, collars and toys for your best friend. Really love this place!

Finding Paddington Pups was the result of a google search and a telephone call where a pleasant young man on the other end told me, "If you can bring him in this morning we can see him." I'd been searching for a new groomer for our pampered pooch after a less than desirable cut just before Winter. All I wanted this visit was a general tidy up, wash and dry (his visits to the salon sound all too much like mine!). Paddington Pups were able to see Dutch that day and it worked out cheaper than our usual salon. Cheaper doesn't always equal better but upon being reunited with my pup a few hours later it sure was in this case. The groomer had heard everything I said and trimmed his face without making him look like a dog without any facial hair. His feet were tidied and there was no great length taken off the rest of his coat. And while I'm yet to make use of it, they also have doggy-day care on site as well as a small range of pet food and toys.

I have browsed through the store but unfortunately cannot offer any guidance as to the grooming experience itself, or at least, how I perceived my dog's reaction. I can say that the range of clothing and accessories is quite impressive and that I've never seen anything quite like it. Items sold here include raincoats, tracksuits, formal wear, shoes, sleepwear and sun protection. There are also bowls, leashes and collars as well as bedding and even cute poo-bag dispensers (I'm not sure that makes the cleanup experience more pleasant). While hovering outside I did see one woman emerge with her freshly groomed pet, who I must say looked fabulous, clean and ready to take on the world.

The staff were excellent and kept me informed, they fed him extra at no cost in an attempt to counter this weight loss. This service gave me a high level of confidence that our dog was being monitored closely. The only concerning issue I had was the following. Upon drop off I was not allowed to see our dog to the booked private room. This did not give me much confidence I was getting what I paid for. Secondly, upon pick up my dog was obviously stressed, he had forgotten who he was and did not recognise us for the first few minutes. I doubt he would have been that stressed if he really did stay in the private room the whole time. I am suspicious he was kept in the general kennels that are loud and stressful.

Acacia Ridge Pet Resort is located in Willawong which is mainly a farm like suburb with plenty of space, occupied by other pet accommodation, plant nurseries or industrial businesses. The staff I have met here are very informative and helpful. They make sure you get as much information as possible and answered all the queries I had. They staff at reception organised for me to do a walk-through to have a lot at the facilities. Obviously the kennels were very loud. Some dogs either looked liked they loved it, or in major distress. Most dogs here are buddied up with another dog of similar size and temperament. Otherwise if you pay for the premium accommodations which is about $70/day on peak time, the dog can stay in a small air conditioned room with TV and big sized bed. They do not allow you to bring any of your dogs toys or bed, but if you wanted your dog to eat their usual food, you will need to provide it as well as pay extra for this privilege. You have to pay extra for a lot of things including, personal playtime with your dog ($10/ 20 minutes), brushing ($6/ session), playing with a kong toy ($4/ session) and applying medication ($2.50/ day). I personally don't like the fact you have to pay extra for all these things. But the staff are lovely and I'm sure any dog would enjoy staying there either in their own room or share it with a room mate.
