I LOVE my gym like I love pizza or bread or any other thing you really really LOVE. I came to Notorious on the brink of turning 40, with an autoimmune disease that makes me exhausted, constant pain, which INCLUDES joints annnndd bad knees. I came in a real skeptic because you hear that CrossFit is a cult, and it's bad for you if your starting from scratch blah blah blah... 1. They scheduled one on one time (Coach Gabe) to walk me through the movements AND repeated them over and over AND gave me the substitutions I should walk into workouts with. 2. 1st workout (Coach Joy) welcomed me to the community, we did an icebreaker before the workout and she made sure to modify as I needed! 3. 2nd workout (Coach Kate) gave me her Bada$$ girl power energy and lots of encouragement! She started setting goals with me Day 3! 4. 3rd workout (Coach Jr but we call him Spice) made me push myself past what I thought I could do. This workout wasn't about lifting as much as it was doing what you have never done and finishing. He asked "but did you die tho?" Now, I didn't die and I realized I was tougher than I knew. Here I am 6 months later, down 10 lbs and 2 pants sizes!! I need a community and THIS is my community. We are strong because of our diversity in age, culture, social, economic, and educational backgrounds. We speak a bunch of languages too, don't ask me to name them all! COVID Precautions: -we are masked up the entire time. -We have to sign up for classes (now open gym due to tier 3 restrictions) capped at 9 ppl -we spend lots of time cleaning.... I would avoid this place and the owner's new venture. I was a member here and took time off because I gave birth and had surgery as well. This gym is closing at the end of Jan'25. The owner posted a YouTube video which he took down within 48 hours of posting stating he was in financial debt and having financial struggles and therefore was closing the gym. In the time I was out, my friend (who is a member) decided to buy me a 3-month membership worth $510 for me to get back into the gym, she specifically told him "it's going to be OK that she is not coming back until Feb 2025 and he said there was no problem" he listed the expiration date as 03-31-2025. It was shady to sell this membership knowing you were closing the business, and the membership would not be valid. I reached out, and asked how we can remedy this and asked for at least a partial refund back to the original purchaser since the membership was invalid. He has made no attempts to contact me back, I also made a claim with Better Business Bureau which he hasn't responded to the claim. I would avoid his new gym he is opening, due to shady practices. I've been a member of other CrossFit gyms and dropped in at many more but CrossFit Notorious is hands down my favorite. They have excellent, elite coaches and the gym is really well equipped. The are incredibly welcoming, knowledgeable, nonjudgmental and they go above and beyond just CrossFit by offering martial arts classes, yoga, and many technique sessions. They're membership pricing is also a really great deal in comparison to other CrossFit gyms. In terms of Covid safety, coaches wear masks at all times, classes limited to just 8 athletes at a time and stations are really spaced out. Every station also has sanitation spray to wipe down all equipment after use. The place itself is really well ventilated and incredibly clean. I feel really safe there. The New 2020 Update: Since my last review of Crossfit Notorious, they have made major improvements and changes. Since the Velasco family has taken over they have added kickboxing, martial arts, yoga, steel mace, and tons of workshops. They have incorporated top tier programming and added a whole new squad of passionate coaches. Since the pandemic, they have rolled with the punches and found new and innovative ways to keep us involved and challenged when the box was temporarily closed. This is also, if not the most inclusive and diverse CrossFit gyms in Chicago. That alone sets it apart from the rest. Come check it out! I've been training one-on-one with Jacob here for several months as soon as the gym re-opened following the initial pandemic closings. Not only have they been amazing with cleaning, sanitizing, limiting class size and number of people in the building, but most importantly I've realized significant gains in my strength and cardiovascular endurance. Jacob provides one-on-one coaching and encouragement, pushes me past what I thought were my limits to achieve new personal records, and the overall environment with members, the other trainers, and the owner Gerardo is so supportive! I highly recommend this place if you're looking to jump-start your fitness routine, get comfortable in the gym, lift heavy, set PRs, and be with like-minded everyday people who incorporate fitness into their lifestyle. From our time in the gym working out together, hanging out after class, or even spending time outside of the gym celebrating accomplishments, cheering each other on at competitions, or just snagging dinner, it's a group of welcoming individuals from different walks of life who just like to be around one another and aren't pretentious and won't think of you as an outsider. And if you just want to come in, bang out a workout and leave? That's cool too. The programming at CFN is unique. The thing I love about Notorious the most are the coaches and the welcoming, non-judgemental vibe of the gym. The gym is very welcoming to each person's fitness level and they always provide modified or scaled options. Most importantly there is no judgement about not being able to do the prescribed workout... the coaches encourage everyone to do what they can and the other members support and cheer each other on. The coaches take the time to understand each members goals and help provide suggestions and tools to help meet those goals. I also appreciate the care and concern the owners have for their members during this pandemic. They have done a great job ensuring space (6 ft) between members, limited equipment usage between members and have set a precedence about everyone doing their part to clean the equipment. I also appreciate that the coaches wear their masks which exemplifies the stance the gym has on mask wearing and safety of others. I've been a member at CFN for a little over 2 years now, and I have never felt better about my health! I used to be one of those people who really struggled to stay motivated to workout, but the community at CFN really help push you to become the best version of yourself so you're always motivated! The only thing that pulls me back from working out now is if I'm stuck studying for my pharmacy school exams (and even then, I might still catch a WOD!). The coaches are always accessible and are constantly looking for ways to accommodate for their members by always asking for feedback, and ACTUALLY implementing them. I don't know if you would get that anywhere else! Crossfit has become such an important aspect of my life. Also, CFN is not just a Crossfit gym-they have Kickboxing, Barbell Club (primarily weightlifting), endurance, bootcamp, and steel mace. There is a class for literally anyone and everyone, and as a member who has at least one of all of these program options, I am confident you will not be disappointed in whatever program you choose. If you're more of a Crossfit type of person, don't worry! Crossfit is still the backbone of CFN! Me and my b/f were looking for a new place to work out and we wanted to try something different. I found Notorious CrossFit on Yelp and I just went there. That was over 7 months ago. It's the best and most fun workout experience I've ever had! Owners/coaches/employees are very welcoming and helpful. Place is friendly & professional. CrossFit is one of the fastest growing strength and conditioning programs today. It's also a very tough workout -- not one to take lightly, especially if you're not active right now. Training the CrossFit way requires you to work out 3 to 5 days per week. The workouts are highly intense and short, taking about 5 to 15 minutes to complete. Everyone who's active should try the CrossFit. The key is to know your body and ability and workout accordingly. I've been at Crossfit Notorious for about 9 months and it has been so beneficial to my heath and fitness. The coaches are very knowledgeable with the movements and patient with newer members. They meet you where your at and help you push yourself to become better. The owners are wonderful and always try to make the space better by updating and adding new classes. Since I've been here they added kickboxing, steel mace, and a barbell club. The community is accepting of new members and very supportive as well. If you're looking for a new place to improve yourself, it's definitely here at CrossFit Notorious. CFN is a great place to train and get your WOD out of the way! Have been coming here since October 2013 and have seen great results and best of all I have met new people that care about each other. This community is great and the coaches are very helpful.... shout out to Marco, Alex and Mel! The environment here is great.. good music is always playing and the tunes pump you up! The First Impression: I've never tried crossfit, but I do workout regularly. I signed up for a class and the first one is free! That was a nice bonus. They let you walk in to any regular class that fits your schedule. When I walked into the gym not a single person acknowledged my presence. I thought I might need to check in somewhere before class started or something. Eventually the instructor saw my lost look and asked if I was there for a trial. I said yes, then he told me where the bathrooms were and where to wait. The Workout: The first section was a 10 minute warm-up with hanging, turkish get-ups, tricep stretches, and a few other things. The second section was 18 min where we did the same 3 exercises for one minute each, over and over until the 18 mins were up. The exercises? Rowing, Push Ups and Kettle Bell Swings. The third section was 3 different ab exercises 20 times each, three times. That was tough. Overall: They never asked if I had any injuries or health issues. Crossfit is supposed to be a really intense workout. You think they'd want to know that. Also, the workout as a whole was boring, not challenging or interesting. My classmates were polite if not a bit standoff-ish. One person went out of his way to say hi and good luck in my first class. That was nice. Everyone else avoided eye contact. No one was really motivated to work out. Most of the students didn't even finish the abs workout and the instructor was too busy socializing to care. I would not recommend this box ESPECIALLY to someone who is new to working out. If I didn't know the movements / exercises I would have been completely lost. read more

At Notorious the level of camaraderie is at a level never seen, you truly feel like family in such an organic way. When I first moved to Chicago, I had a list of boxes I wanted to check out based on 3 things: programming, facility, and community. I had a list of about maybe 10 boxes, and CFN was #2 on the list. After dropping in, I signed up that day for an unlimited membership and didn't even bother checking out the other boxes because CFN was THAT amazing. I loved everything about this box. I've been a member of numerous boxes for long periods of time (due to my career which constantly puts me on the go), and I must say this is definitely near the top of the list for my favorite boxes. Programming: the programming here is on point. No matter your skill level, the programming here works and is evident by almost everyone's constantly improving metrics. From your soccer mom to your everyday joe to your elite athlete, the programming here will provide you with great results. Facility: the box itself is great. They have a wide open layout where you never feel cramped. There are oly platforms in the back for you to work on your lifts (provided they're not being used by a class). They have a ton of bars, plates, etc - I don't think there was ever a time where we didn't have enough equipment for a class. Rings, ropes, rowers, AirDynes, etc - you name it, they have it. Community: this is definitely the biggest part of CFN that made me decide to join and stay. From the moment I walked in, I was welcomed with open arms (literally, the 1st day I walked in I was greeted w/ a hug by a member of the gym). The owners are knowledgeable, down to earth, caring people who care about you as a person, not just as some random person in their business. The coaches are great instructors and motivators who know how to teach and get the best out of each athlete. The members treat everyone like a family - I hung out w/ a lot of them outside of the box on a regular occasion during my stay in Chicago. It was definitely tough leaving CFN since I had to move back home, but I'm glad I was able to be a part of their community and get to know everyone. I started Crossfit in October 2013. The experience has been phenomenal. At other gyms, it can be intimating to attend classes when you are the "New Kid" . That has never been the case at CFN. We are all there to workout, improve and help each other out. Recently the staff has added new coaches who are all great. I especially appreciate the addition of their 2 new female coaches. The types of workouts that we do can seem overwhelming for a woman but when you have these amazing ladies there motivating you and helping you reach your goals, it makes for a great experience. Before coming to notorious my Fiance and I were looking into different gyms to get "wedding ready". We were hesitant because we were both out of shape. Our first day at the gym everyone made us feel so comfortable and welcoming. No judgement zone, worked out at our own pace and always had coach Gabe encouraging us to give it our all. The first week we were both sore and could barley walk, but it was a good sore! Its only our first couple weeks and we've never felt better. Also, the gym has an app where you can pick the times you want to come in or cancel, which is super convenient because life gets crazy! Gym is open to 9 people per class due to covid and Super clean with disinfected spray at every station. The gym is HUGE, we all have way more than 6 feet from one another. This was/is a lifetime change experience and we couldn't have picked a more perfect gym! This is the 2nd Crossfit gym I've belonged to and it's really solid. The class sizes are perfect for both new and veteran Crosfitters, the space is huge with plenty of room to move and the equipment is great. The WODS are always varied and there is a healthy mix of skill/strength/WOD in every class. The coaches are engaging, fun and not afraid to jump into a WOD with you and challenge everyone around them. Unfortunately I have to leave the gym to pursue another professional opportunity but I'll be missing out on everything this gym has to offer. Definitely a worthwhile investment! read more

I did a drop in class here when I was visiting the area. Walking in very early was a little awkward, but the coach who greeted me was super friendly. The coach who taught the class I was in was super nice as well, very knowledgeable, and helped me improve my kipping pull ups (banded) significantly. I really enjoyed the atmosphere, the space, and everyone else in the class I was in. I'll definitely be back. read more
