A lot of the prettiness has been hindered by the on going renovation construction work at the Parliament house. Yes the area is maintained beautifully, all grass are trimmed, flower and gardens are picturesque. At the corner, there's a lookout area that overlooks the city of Gatineau, Quebec, across Ottawa river. There are restrooms under the lookout pavement. Lots of security personnel are assigned to keep the whole place safe and organized.

You can even go into a legislative session (need to bring a governmental ID and pass a security check) to see parliamentary procedures and democracy in action. Definitely worth checking out!

Currently it's going through some renovations, so two gigantic cranes are towering over the building. Very popular site with tourists. There are huge boards that provide details of the building and the government. Visitors can the building too but we saw a long line. Lots of law enforcement officers in the area to keep everything safe and in order.

The tour took us to the Federal Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada courtrooms. All the…read morematerial in areas accessible to the public are foreign and expensive building material while the washrooms and non-publicly accessible areas used Canadian building material. The ceilings of the court are high to express the stature and importance of the Supreme Court of Canada. I have to say, the washrooms were nice too. Security staff were courteous, unlike the Supreme Court of the United States - think that says much about Canada. :) Interestingly, the chairs of the judges of the SCC are all custom made so that all the judges sit all around at the same level. As a lawyer, you only get an hour to make a concise argument for your case so the importance of written factums (written submissions) are very important. Typically cases are heard in 1 day, but there are cases that take 2 days to be heard due to the high number of intervenors. The library, which is not accessible to the public, takes up most of the third floor of the building. For the general public, the library isn't probably somewhere you'd want to see or check out. It's has the legislation of all provinces/territories, secondary sources, and also European/British sources too. You can only borrow books for typically 24 hours.

St. Joseph's is quite a large church and parish, and is always fairly packed for Sunday Mass. The…read moresermon's don't feel like they're eons long, and the choir is always pretty fantastic. They also have masses and programs that focus on child, youth, and senior faith. They also hold different events and services, including those in support of social justice for marginalized individuals, and even have their banquet halls, spaces, and rooms for rent. What I really love and appreciate about St. Joe's is it's more open, liberal stance, versus strict Catholics. Women are more prominent in mass participation and service than in other churches, and even have a St. Joe's Women Centre for homeless and less-fortunate women. As far as I know, they are also actually supportive of gay rights.

It's located in Sandy Hill, on the corner of Laurier East and Chapel, right across from the little church. If you're not sure it's the right building, look for the big Canadian flag pole. It's now owned by Parks Canada, and I must say, they've restored it and kept it in pretty fantastic shape since, both inside and out. It serves as a small public museum, and it's quite a popular historical attraction, especially with an admission of only a few bucks. There's a ton of furniture, Victorian design and decor, and personal items that reflect the lives and times of the prime ministers. They even have afternoon tea, theatre performances, and candelit tours by guides in costumes for more educational information and to soak up the history. The mansion is pretty large, especially for its time, but, unfortunately, it's not entirely accessible.

To call it an "Interprovincial" (between two provinces) bridge is a bit of unnecessary hoity-toityness, as most bridges spanning the Ottawa River cross between the provinces of Ontario and Québec. Speaking of which, I am also a fan of Ottawa's wildly underrated province-crossing Portage Bridge, for which I have reviewed here: https://bit.ly/2Z9Fd4H. Alexandria Bridge is the easiest way to cross to-and-from the heart of Ottawa and Gatineau/Hull. On the city two-fer of the Gatineau and Hull, Québec side, you're right next to the Canadian Museum of History (Musée Canadien de l'Histoire) and Jacques-Cartier Marina and Park. On the Ottawa side, you're close to the National Gallery of Canada, Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica, and, of course, Parliament Hill. IMHO, the most beauteous site you'll see while on Alexandria Bridge is Parliament Hill and its stunning scenery, as well as the greenery of the hill known as Nepean Point (and its statue at the top of French explorer Samuel de Champlain). Further up-river, you'll see where the Ottawa and Gatineau Rivers converge. While the Portage Bridge gives you the loud, violent rush of white-water rapids, a mere 1.5 km down the road at Alexandria, the waters are wider ... and usually much calmer. The biggest selling point is the boardwalk -- wooden and wide -- and carries a few thousand pedestrians and a few thousand bikers daily. The benches are great for soaking it all it. And, oh yeah, it is a smoooooth ride via car! So if you're in Ottawa, Gatineau, or Hull, don't forget to ... take it to the bridge!

We really enjoyed our guided tour through the automated facility and our guide was especially knowledgeable. The production facility was closed while we were there. We asked many questions. They are globally known for bullion and collector coins that are .9999 purity standards. Only Canada and Australia produce that purity. The collective collection honors Queen Elizabeth. No photos allowed in the facility. They have a nice gift shop where coins, collector pieces, bullion and other items can be purchased. We purchased a few items and everyone in the gift shop was so nice.
